Obama hikes pay of
select officials

Boston Herald, by Gary J. Remal

As millions of Americans face smaller paychecks if the government fails to act to avoid the fiscal cliff, President Obama has raised the ire of some conservative critics by quietly handing over pay hikes — estimated to cost more than $1 billion a year — to Congress, high-ranking federal officials, judges and Vice President Joe Biden. “It’s a bad idea because Americans everywhere are hurting due to the fragile economy and the fiscal cliff,” said Republican strategist Ford O’Connell. “If the government is asking people to take a hit, surely senior government officials should take the hit, too.”

~~“It’s not anything that Republicans can use against Obama because he’s not running for anything anymore, and the Democrats in Congress who will be running in 2014 can say, ‘It’s not us.’?”~~

Imagine something like this being said about President Bush, or the Republicans in Congress? (Of course, they WILL somehow, manage to blame the Republicans......)

I haven´t had a raise in almost three years. I have lost my health insurance on Jan. 1 because the premiums have doubled to more than one of my paychecks. My husband lost his full time job last Jan. plus his employer owed him $5300 in back pay. He was able to find a part time job. He came home yesterday and told me that he has now been laid off from the part time job. That part time job bought our groceries. So now what? We do not qualify for food stamps because we have a couple of CD´s. And taxes are set to go up. Great. While obama passes out money to the chosen I am trying not to panic.

Why? Why now?

Do they think we believe that these people are hurting and NEED a raise?

I feel for you #5...I´m sick of living in a panicked state always "Robbing Peter to pay Paul." All of us have stories of what people are going through...and the rest who are taking in relatives even worse off. We´re at the end of the line and no one to take us in.

Somehow I picture Obama reading your story and countless others, rubbing his hands toogether and thinking "I love it when plan comes together."

Because everything is going so well - that´s why we give raises? It shows how out of touch with reality the idiot is. Have him committed for delusions.

Newest estimates are that public employees make forty percent - 40% - more than private sector employees in comparable occupations. Some of our city employees actually fall in the top 1%, and that is courtesy of our tax dollars. Something has got to give and ot won´t be pretty.

Federal workers a protected "class." This is every bit as bad as the class system of old England. (BTW, my family is full of those receiving super generous federal retirement checks. They agree.)

Guess we´ll se a story in a couple days where only left wing judges got raises.A lot of government jobs are nothing but glorified workfare programs.

The left is absolutely obsessed with the idea that welfare, employment extensions, food stamps and hiring armies of gov´t workers helps the economy. Show me one shred of proof this works.Virtually every country in Europe is battling huge deficits despite gazillios of high paid bureaucrats and the good ole imported welfare crowd.

This shows how the left over relies on abstractions and not dynamics.

What really makes this country work is small businesses phones ringing off the hook with new business.None of this welfare type spending helps that group all that much and so the economy remains stagnant.

Then you have rules, regulations, taxes and lawsuits that kill jobs and suppress wages, then the left complains about the resulting wealth gap.

Why would Biden need a raise? His wife is a `doctor` of some sort and therefore has the ability to make just as much money as her crazy husband so more taxpayer money for Joe is certainly not warranted.

Somewhere in America today there is a millionaire who needs to transfer his wealth to Joe Biden for no good reason.

Barry will slip in his own pay raise in a short time when things quiet down or there is another good distraction acting itself out. Even his hubris has a limit. Not mentioned is how much President Jarrett received.

For more than 30 years, Hustler’s flamboyant publisher Larry Flynt has continued to send the monthly magazine to every member of Congress. Since 1983, Hustler has sent the porno mags in plain manila envelopes to every Congressional office as Mr. Flynt’s unique way of petitioning the government, National Journal reported. Congress tried in 1984 to stop the unwanted porn subscription, but the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia ruled two years later that the delivery of the magazine could not be stopped under the First Amendment. “Receiving Hustler once each month would not unduly burden a Member of Congress,”

President Obama said Thursday more than 8 million Americans selected a private health plan through his signature health overhaul, topping the most recent tally by a half-million people and offering the president an opportunity to blast Republicans for criticizing his efforts. “This thing is working,” he said, cautioning his law will not solve everything that ails the country’s health care system. He then openly criticized GOP lawmakers for trying to repeal his law. “They still can’t bring themselves to admit that the Affordable Care Act is working,” he said. Republicans say Mr. Obama’s enthusiasm is fleeting, because a portion of Americans

Sen. John Cornyn (R., Texas) is demanding answers from Attorney General Eric Holder on the Justice Department’s pursuit of “smart gun” technology, warning that the government could require all gun owners to wear biometric bracelets to operate their firearms. Cornyn sent a letter to the attorney general on Wednesday in response to remarks he made in testimony before a House subcommittee earlier this month, which were first reported by the Washington Free Beacon. Holder said his agency is “exploring” technology to make guns “more safe.” “By making them either through finger print identification, the gun talks to a bracelet or

An army of NYPD cops on Thursday evicted a homeless man from his Manhattan Bridge “home” — which was complete with a gas heater, hot sauce and beer. A dozen officers from both the 5th and 84th Precincts plus four Emergency Service Unit cops launched the raid about 9:50 a.m. A DOT worker on a ladder first used bolt cutters to remove a red bicycle lock on the wooden structure — which turned out to be fully insulated with Styrofoam and a large tarp. “Police department! Police department!” cops yelled, but got no reply, so ESU officers used a saw

NATO announced Wednesday that it is enhancing its military footprint on its eastern flank, and the alliance’s top military commander in Europe hinted that in light of Russia’s recent aggression, it is “important that we take a pause and determine what is appropriate for [the size of] U.S. forces in Europe.” The number of U.S. troops in Europe has dropped dramatically since the Soviet Union collapsed. More recently, the Obama administration has touted its “pivot” to Asia. Supreme Allied Commander Europe Gen. Philip Breedlove, a U.S. Air Force general, was asked if the number of U.S. forces stationed in Europe should

With total student loans exceeding $1 trillion, one must ask “is the tassel worth the financial hassle” when it comes to spending for prestigious colleges. Here’s my rough rule of thumb for taking on student loan debt: “Think long and hard about taking on more in total student loans than you expect to earn, on average, in your first 10 years after graduating.” That’s a mouthful so let me put some numbers on it. If you expect your average annual income over the first 10 years you are out of school to be $50,000, be really, really careful about taking

Look, everyone loves Sean Connery, particularly Sean Connery. That’s why he plays Sean Connery in every movie he’s in. People love that Scottish brogue so much, they don’t mind that he has it when he plays Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez, an immortal Spaniard in Highlander. The guy even won an Oscar for playing an Irish cop with a Scottish accent. Talk about sexist double standards: Meryl Streep has to master foreign dialects to get her golden statuettes. When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

Toddlers show racial bias when picking playmates, a study reveals. They also take account of how fairly others behave. Researchers tested the reaction of white 15-month-olds as toys were distributed. Two white adults divided the toys, one equally and the other unequally. Seventy per cent of the toddlers chose to play with the researcher who distributed the toys fairly. But in a second test, when one researcher favoured a white recipient over an Asian one, they picked the ‘fair’ researcher less often, the journal Frontiers in Psychology reports. And the babies are more likely to help those who share the same ethnicity, which is known as

I live in Las Vegas. I live and breath Nevada politics. Something is very wrong. Something smells rotten in the Nevada desert. And Senator Harry Reid’s fingerprints are all over it. I am of course referring to the Bundy Ranch siege. This was a dispute between a Nevada ranching family with rights to the land in question for 140 years and the BLM (Bureayu of Land Management). The government claims they haven’t paid grazing fees for 20 years. The result was a government assault on the ranch- including snipers with assault rifles, SUV’s, helicopters, airplanes and over 200 heavily armed troops. No
