| In the midst of a grueling, final-hour push by Congress to rescue the economy from the looming fiscal cliff, House Speaker John Boehner sought brief reprieve with an evening of margaritas and Mexican fare in Arlington, a source told Mail Online. Dressed in a festive, bright red sweater, a cheery Boehner arrived through a side door at Guapo´s in Shirlington around 7:15 p.m. Friday - about three hours after he left stone-faced from a meeting at the White House with other congressional leaders and President Obama -

Comments: Last time I looked, margaritas were not a controlled substance. One wonders what they were doing at the WH.

Not to mention Obama going over budget on extravagant, over the top spending on WH parties.
Boehner,to me,is a problem drinker to begin with and maybe his judgement in a deal is being clouded by his sauce intake.
I´m more comfortable with McConnell being the front man in negotiations, even though it probably won´t make a difference.Nothings going to stop these people from rushing home in time for NY´s eve party.
Spend a holics and boozeaholics running the country isn´t a good mix.

Big Deal. And Obama blew town last week to go where? Hawaii? For his, what, 18th vacation on taxpayer expense? Shaddup, lefty rag Daily Mail.
I would be happy to have Boehner down margaritas continuously between now and New Year´s, and go off the cliff, rather than concede to the Communist-in-Chief

I eat at that restaurant all the time. Great Mexican food. Wish I had been there. But, not sure if I would have been as friendly to the Speaker.
BTW--FilAm and Spidey, standard practice is a single space after punctuation marks. There is a double space after a period. Please use them as it makes your excellent posts much easier to read.

Pathetic attempt from the useful idiots at the D.M. to make Boehner look foolish for wearing a red sweater at CHRISTMAS time.. Fortunately, the dear Leader of the demonrats, and the "msm" obama, only spent about 4+ million of OUR money, on his vacay to Hawaii this year and the poor guy had to cut it short to come back and thrash Republicans, (moochelle and the kiddies and the rest of the homies are still there and will fly back at OUR expense at a later date ). Not that it matters to the brain-trusts in the "media". BTW, who says John Boehner is a "problem" drinker? IMHO, It would appear that Mz. Hillary has the drinking problem. How many "concussions" has John Boehner had?.....never mind.

Come on, Boehner knows enough that the dems and obama are our new rulers and the republicans must obey. I´m thinking that since 2007 when the dems took control of this country and it started its downward spiral, a lot of people have been increasing their alcohol consumption.

Excellent! This is called psy-ops, and Speaker Boehner is making the most of it. He did exactly what he was supposed to do--pass a tax hike/spending cut in the House and send it to the Senate. Let Reid whine into his pomogranate tea-"He´s not here." Boo hoo. (Spidey, listen to poster #6. Leave one space after a period or a comma. Your posts are very hard to read and your excellent analysis is marred by bad punctuation.)

I´d have needed more than a couple of margaritas and a taco or two after spending that much time with Obie.
Someone needs to tell snarky Hayley Peterson that American men often wear red sweaters at Christmas time.
I am sick of the Brits´ nastiness toward the United States. I lived with it for a few years. That was enough. If they spent as much time on their own sick country as they do picking on ours (as they have ever since they lost it), they´d be performing a useful service.

Source of all this gossip is a "diner who works in government" who did not want to be named. The "worker" just happened to arrive at the same restaurant as Boehner and at the same time, took pictures, and then called a newspaper reporter whose number just happened to be on the "worker´s" phone.
More likely: President Obama sent one of his underlings (probably from the Press Secretary´s office) to stalk the Speaker and release any information that could make the Speaker look like a fool and play into the President´s PR campaign against the GOP House members. Tim Carney gave out the phone numbers. The Daily Mail was the only one who took the bait. Or the female underling was chosen for the covert operations because she already was BFF with Hayley.

In this captivating example of investigative reporting, I always wonder who "the source" is. Dem hack - "Yes, he´s here and he´s eating enchiladas!"
You see, the Speaker should be in sack-cloth bowing outside Harry Reid´s door, begging to take more money from successful wage earners.

Some of the nation´s largest banks, including Wells Fargo [WFC +1.58%] & Co., suspended foreclosure sales in a number of states following guidance issued last month by federal banking regulators. While some foreclosures have since resumed, the halt marks the latest dustup over how foreclosures are handled. Banks said their actions were triggered by a four-page bulletin issued last month by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and the Federal Reserve. The bulletin outlined basic operating standards for foreclosure sales. Many of the nation´s largest banks were already operating under consent orders with the OCC or the Fed

Common-sense politics devolve into a season of craziness in this engrossing account of the 2012 U.S. presidential campaign. Journalist Alter follows up his bestselling The Promise: President Obama, Year One with a savvy dissection of the 2010–2012 election cycle and related political dogfights, including budget and debt-ceiling showdowns, the Republican primary circus, and the “Obama Derangement Syndrome” infecting Tea Partiers and talk-radio hosts. At the center are rich portraits of the antagonists: Obama is seen as a cerebral antipolitician with no “schmooze gene” who hates back-slapping, slogan-spewing theatrics; Romney is portrayed as a well-meaning

Let’s face it. The Great Gatsby never has been—and probably won’t ever be—successfully turned into a great motion picture. Many have tried (four flop movies, not to mention various small-screen attempts, including a truncated but memorable Playhouse 90 with Robert Ryan and Jeanne Crain in the golden days when TV still knew what quality programming was). Robert Redford was a perfect Gatsby in the pretty but boring 1974 version by Jack Clayton, but the movie was dead on arrival. The best I’ve seen is still Elliott Nugent’s black-and-white 1949 version, with Alan Ladd at the top of his form

It may go down as one of the great currency bets in Australian dollar history – a $US1 billion gamble on a Reserve Bank rate cut that has delivered a $US19 million ($18.65m) profit in 36 hours. The beneficiary, if you believe the rumour mill, is investment legend George Soros. Best of all, it appears the 82-year-old American pulled off the deal three times, all with different foreign exchange brokers in Asia, for a tidy profit of almost $US60 million. (Snip)Back in 1992, based on British government policy changes, Soros famously shorted the British pound,

Oskar Lafontaine, the German finance minister who launched the euro, has called for a break-up of the single currency to let southern Europe recover, warning that the current course is "leading to disaster". "The economic situation is worsening from month to month, and unemployment has reached a level that puts democratic structures ever more in doubt," he said. "The Germans have not yet realised that southern Europe, including France, will be forced by their current misery to fight back against German hegemony sooner or later," he said,

U.S. President Barack Obama gives the commencement address to the graduating class of The Ohio State University at Ohio Stadium on May 5, 2013 in Columbus, Ohio. PRESIDENT OBAMA: Unfortunately, you´ve grown up hearing voices that incessantly warn of government as nothing more than some separate, sinister entity that´s at the root of all our problems. Some of these same voices also do their best to gum up the works. They´ll warn that tyranny always lurking just around the corner. You should reject these voices.

After months of weighing potential candidates, President Obama finally has his pick for the director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, which oversees the housing giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Obama wants to tap Representative Mel Watt, a Democrat from North Carolina. Confirmation is far from a sure thing. Watt’s nomination has been met with cheers by many groups that work with borrowers, from the National Community Reinvestment Coalition to MoveOn.org, though some liberals say he’s too close with banks, which are a big part of North Carolina’s economy.

The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor 3rd. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight committee Wednesday.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”

Former Democratic National committee chairman Howard Dean considers the controversy over Benghazi a “joke” and “silly.” “Benghazi is a laughable joke,” Dean proclaimed twice in a discussion with Republican National Committee communications chairman Sean Spicer last week. “With all due respect, governor, when four Americans die serving this country, that’s not a joke, sir,” Spicer responded. “Oh, stop it,” said Dean. The former Democratic presidential candidate also said that there were “no serious questions being asked about Benghazi” and brushed it off as an effort by Republicans to score political points.

There’s really no reason for the press to suggest that the recent slew of scandals involving the Obama administration — Benghazi, the AP phone-record seizure, the snooping in James Rosen’s e-mail, the IRS’s targeting of conservative groups, and so on — are a confusing jumble. There is a very clear thread running through all of the administration’s actions: The U.S. deputy chief of mission in Libya, Gregory Hicks, says that he was told not to speak to a member of Congress about Benghazi without a State Department lawyer present, that he received a phone call from Hillary Clinton’s
