| They are an icon of the American West and a symbol of the country´s frontier history, but now hundreds of mustang horses face slaughter due to overpopulation. Under existing laws the government pays ranchers to take in thousands of these ´wild´ horses a year in order to keep population numbers down. Mustangs are not an indigenous species to America and are known to have an adverse affect on natural ecosystems. The current system of managing these threats has been in place since 1971 but now rising feed costs has resulted in a growing number of American ranchers refusing

Gullible, naive people have created a mystique around the wild horses that is not only misguided, but in error. Almost all of them are descended from domestic horses. There is very little exotic bloodline. And those starry eyed believers have no idea of the damage those rampaging herds do to grasses and erosion control. The BLM has enjoyed a protective bureaucracy that allowed BLM employees and favored friends to shuttle the horses through phony adoption procedures and, eventually, to the slaughter houses. There is real money in the slaughter of a 1200 pound horse.
There´s nothing romantic about these animals on the plains. And there has been real criminal activity inside the BLM Wild Horse Program for at least twenty years. I know what I´m talking about.

There´s always going to be a bleeding heart brigade out there protecting horses because they´re sympathetic animals.Wild boars, not so much.
This new gun ban could hurt western ranchers from what I understand. They use large clip guns going after coyotes and such to protect their herds.
I don´t eat meat anyway but if I did ,it wouldn´t be a horseburger.

My sister bought a Mustang 45 years ago at an auction. They used to round them up once a year and sell them. It was a great little horse but of course she had to train it first.
I think horses are God´s greatest animal creation. But I would rather see these animals killed humanely than starve to death because the land can´t provide enough substance.

This might be a manifestation of that LIBERAL phenomenon called "Unintended Consequences". Prior to the early ´70´s thse animals were slaughtered for meat... Lots went to Europe; the Urban Legend back then was,the street wiener vendors in New York City sold it in their wieners. Also, it went to make pet food. Now we burn our corn in gasoline, allow wild horses to breed and take up food for domestic cattle. Maybe they should fence Central Park, and put a cute herd of Mustangs up there; allow the East Coast Libtards to hand feed them, up close and personal...

Horse meat is recommended for those with anemia, as it is higher in iron and animal source iron (heme iron) is best absorbed.
Yerps love horse meat, especially in Belgium, I´m told. Ironically, Hanoi Jane Fonda was in a flick entitled, "They Shoot Horses, Don´t They?" Gig Young won an Oscar for it.
Speaking of Hollywood idiots... maybe you recall "Dances With Wolves." Remember that Kevin Costner bemoaned the loss of the Lakota´s "four hundred years´ horse culture."
Hmmm... horses are not indigenous to the Americas and were imported here by those nasty white Yerp bad guys. Indians, who had been Stone Age pedestrians, rode Yerp import horses, drank white man´s alcohol, and fired white man´s guns. What a traditional Lakota culture we lost. Bury my heart at BS Central.
And these mustangs are like feral cats. Do what ya gotta do with ´em.

Oops! Hit the "submit" button too soon. I also wanted to point out the problem with pythons in Florida´s Everglades. On the Tampa news tonight a 17 foot Burmese python was shown that was caught there. Try laying out that distance on your living room floor. Makes a mighty impressive snake. They have been raising havoc with small (and large) native species here. But snakes don´t get the publicity horses do.

Ingredients:
2 pounds (1 k) horsemeat, cut from the rump, or beef if you must 2 sticks celery 2-3 carrots 1 large onion 4 cloves A dozen coriander seeds 1 bay leaf 1 clove garlic 2 ounces (50 g) lard or porkback fat 1/4 cup olive oil 1 bottle full bodied, dry red wine - Purists call for Reiciotto Amarone or Valpolicella Superiore, but a less expensive red will work just as well Salt & Pepper to taste 1 tablespoon butter kneaded in flour Flour Paprika to taste (2-3 tablesoons, not too strong) Preparation:
Lardoon the meat with the lard and slivers of carrots. Dice the other vegetables and put them with the meat and the spices except the paprika in a bowl; pour the wine over everything, cover and marinate in the refrigerator for three days, turning the meat occasionally.
Pat the meat dry (reserve the vegetables and the marinade), flour it, and brown it in the oil, in a pot over a brisk flame. Add the vegetables, and when they´ve cooked for a few minutes, pour the marinade over the meat. Reduce the heat to a simmer and cook for about three hours. Once the meat is done, remove it to a platter and blend the sauce.
Return the sauce to the fire, thicken it with the butter-flour ball, and season it to taste with paprika. Pour the sauce over the meat and serve, with polenta and the side dishes you prefer.
The wine? Amarone or Valpolicella Superiore, or a Cabernet-Merlot blend along the lines of Valcalepio.

The main problem is, the ranching & farming industry have a better lobbying business operating in Washington than the Mustang/Burros do. Years ago I read that less than 5% of our beef industry operates in the dry arid regions where the horses & burros are. But the land is leased to ranchers & has been for decades, long enough that they think of it as theirs, instead of the American people. They pay next to nothing to run cattle on the land & use it as theirs. Most of the ranchers have put in wells for their cattle & resent every weed & every gulp of water the equine take.

Excuse me but the Obama admin deemed mustangs a species to eliminate. 2 years ago, the locals fought the feds but lost... and the mustangs were herded up & moved to a place too small for them.
Why kill off mustangs? I don´t know.. ask someone who hates America... like the Obozo WH.

Horses evolved on this continent, so to say it´s an invasive species is incorrect.
It´s the ranchers and farmers, who are often corporations, who don´t want the growing herds. It´s invasive only so far as it pertains to the ranchers and farmers. There´s just not enough room for the big herds anymore.
Lt. Grant was an expert horseman, and wrote great praise in his memoirs of his mustang down in Texas on route to the Mexican theater of war.
In 1846, Lt. Grant, while on reconoitering, just outside Corpus Christi, came across a herd of wild horses, "As far as the eye could rach to our right, the herd extended. To the left it extended equally. There was no estimating the number of animals in it. I have no idea that they could all have been corralled in the State of Rholde island, or Delaware, at one time"

The Metropolitan Police has defended the way it responded to reports of the killing in Woolwich, south London, after questions were raised about how long it took officers to reach the scene. The force said police were there within nine minutes of the first emergency call and firearms officers were at the scene five minutes after that. Mayor Boris Johnson was heckled when he visited the area. BBC London´s Home Affairs Correspondent Guy Smith spoke with Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley, former Metropolitan Police Commander John O´Connor and Roger Gray, a former firearms officer.

HANAHAN--The U.S. Naval Brig is once again being mentioned as a leading alternative to put terror detainees on trial after President Barack Obama this week rekindled his push to shut down the terror-suspect holding site at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. “I once again call on Congress to lift the restrictions on detainee transfers from Gitmo,” he said. “I have asked the Department of Defense to designate a site in the United States where we can hold military commissions.” Speculation immediately re-focused on the brig at Charleston as a leading choice where some of the 166 detainees could go on trial.

Proudly marching through the streets of York with cheers ringing in their ears, the men and women of 2nd Signal Regiment--recently returned from Afghanistan--were greeted by thousands of people lining the streets to welcome them home. In the hours after the murder of Drummer Lee Rigby by alleged Islamist terrorists in Woolwich, south-east London, on Wednesday, the Ministry of Defence had advised servicemen and women not to go out in uniform--an order that was promptly ignored by soldiers who refused to be cowed and almost immediately rescinded. 300 members of the Armed Forces were cheered by well-wishers who waved

People taking statins face an increased risk of developing diabetes, warn researchers. They found a 10 percent extra risk linked to taking simvastatin--the most commonly prescribed anti-cholesterol drug--which rose to 22 percent for those taking atorvastatin. Previous research into a suspected link with statins found a 9 percent rise in the chance of patients developing diabetes, but the new study looked at specific brands of drug. [Snip] Researchers identified 471,250 patients with no history of diabetes and who were newly treated with a statin, just over half were women and all were at least 66 years old. Statin therapy

The September 11 attacks on America was by no means the first act of terrorism carried out in the name of Islam. The 1993 World Trade Center bombings killed six, while the 1998 US embassy bombings of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Nairobi, Kenya, left 223 people dead. However, the scale, horror and repercussions of 9/11--2,996 people dead, the World Trade Center destroyed and the Pentagon attacked--set it apart as a seminal moment that changed the course of history. [Snip] Subsequently, Islamist terrorists attacked Madrid in 2004, London in 2005 and Mumbai in 2008, among many other lethal and devastating

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.
