| Not much to be said about the fiscal cliff until America plunges over it, pulling the rest of us with it, suffice it to say that this now virtually annual political charade is getting somewhat tiresome. One minute its Eurogeddon threatening to plunge the world into never ending depression, the next it´s another US budget crisis. So here´s the West Wing on the related "debt ceiling" negotiations--that one´s coming up for renegotiation any moment too. This article isn´t bad but it was the long reader comment from Paul_Davies888 (time-stamped at eleven-thirty-four a.m.) that grabbed my attention.
Very informative and useful, that comment. It´s actually from an intelligent young fellow who fought and escaped communism and he gives us an outstanding analogy. You´ll probably use it often.

I just Read where Obama has proposed a “scaled back” proposal that will avoid going over the cliff next week. It should according to the article be a good patch for 60 – 90 days. So our idiots in DC are going to kick the can once more so that in 60 – 90 days we get all the cliff drama again wherein they will patch up the can and kick it out another 60 – 90 days etc, etc, etc. This whole cliff is nothing more than BS to keep us occupied and thinking our betters in DC are actually doing something or can do something about our pending financial collapse, they can’t, they can only attempt to delay it. The Repubs will happily go along with it because they are no better than Dems and only care about their precious seat in congress and all the perks it provides. Our entire system is F.U.B.A.R.!

Why are members of Congress meeting with Obama at the White House to attempt to form a fiscal budget or rescue?
That very spot is illegal because the Legislative branch namely The House Of Representatives is the body whole that determines such bills and laws. The other Congressional body the Senate is required to vote on those measures in session not in a back room.
The President has NO position in that process except to sign or veto the properly passed bills.
To bow to a self determined dictator at an Administration residence is a crime against the people.

Nato has handed over security for the whole of Afghanistan for the first time since the Taliban were ousted in 2001. At a ceremony in Kabul, President Hamid Karzai said that from Wednesday "our own security and military forces will lead all the security activities". Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria.
