Fiscal cliff debate illustrates
true cost of Obama policies

IF nothing else, the debate over the “fiscal cliff” has dramatically illustrated the true cost of President Barack Obama´s fiscal policies. If the president and Congress don´t reach an agreement, roughly $671 billion in tax increases and spending cuts would take effect — yet the nation would still continue to run a deficit nearly twice the size of the pre-recession 2007 deficit.(Snip)Falling over the fiscal cliff also could result in nearly 30 million additional filers being hit by the alternative minimum tax, including some earning as little as $33,750, according to the IRS.

Going over the fiscal cliff is the ONLY way there will be any reduction in spending. Go for it!!!

It does little to illustrate the true costs of Obama´s policies. The cliff is just the tip of the iceberg, 90% of the costs are hidden and covered up by the media. Obama Care being one of the biggest costs.

HEY AMERICA!

Eat the Obama sandwich you voted for last November....ENJOY!

Here´s something that also "illustrates" the problem:

People who do not pay any income tax will drop from 46% to 34%. That should be a boon to Republicans when one citizen in eight realizes there is no such thing as a free lunch. Lets see how much spine Boehner and Co. show.

Finally! An article that tells the truth. It´s supposed to be about a Budget, stupid!

Why would any of this surprise anyone considering we haven´t had a budget in 4 years?

I agree with #4. But unfortunately we who did not vote for obama will also be getting heartburn from that sandwich. As long as the 47% keep getting those monthly hits to their welfare credit cards they simply do not care. Their "free money" must be reduced in proportion to the pain the workers will be hit with before they actually figure it all out. As you know they are a bit on the dense side.

A good article, but it did not address the fact that the House of Representatives passed a tax bill in August about tax rates and the alternative minimum tax fix but Harry Reid won´t let it even be debated in the Senate.

There is a "do-nothing" in Congress, his name is Harry Reid!!

Who Has the Edge in

With the New Jersey governor´s race looking like a cakewalk for Chris Christie (at least for now), and with New York´s crime problem under control (removing much of the impetus for a Republican mayor), all eyes are on the Virginia gubernatorial race as the premier political contest in 2013. Republicans selected their political slate over the weekend at a convention, settling upon Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli as their gubernatorial candidate, E.W. Jackson as their pick for lieutenant governor, and state Sen. Mark Obenshain as their choice for attorney general.

Like plaids with stripes, federal employees wrapped in the Fifth Amendment don’t look good. We all have the right to wear clothes that clash, and all in this country have the right not to provide testimony that could be used against them. But when federal workers invoke that right, as Lois Lerner did at a House hearing Wednesday, it comes at a cost. A public servant who refuses to answer questions from Congress about the public’s business clashes with the public’s expectations. By asserting her right, Lerner further undermined the credibility of her employer, the Internal Revenue Service,

"If you refuse to answer, you will leave us no choice but to ask for a special counsel or the appointment of a special prosecutor to get to the bottom of this. I hope that´s not the approach of the IRS going forward, because there will be hell to pay." — U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch, D-Mass., to IRS officials appearing Wednesday before a House investigative committee. "I have not done anything wrong. ... I will not answer any questions or testify about the subject matter." — Lois Lerner, director of the IRS´s tax-exempt organizations division,

As gratifying as it was to see the “news” media actually do its job last week when the IRS scandal broke, it was also odd that the coverage focused exclusively on abuses of power relating to various Tea Party and anti-abortion groups. A much scarier IRS story has been virtually ignored by the establishment press. On Wednesday, it was reported that a class-action lawsuit had been filed against a group of IRS agents who, according to the complaint filed by “John Doe Company” in the Southern District of California, “stole more than 60,000,000 medical records of more than 10,000,000 Americans

ONE OF THE BIGGEST questions hanging over the health-care system is how many young Americans will sign up for coverage once the Affordable Care Act begins to phase in this October. If too few buy insurance on the markets that the government is creating, insurance companies would be stuck covering primarily the the old and the sick. They would have to pay out more per customer. Their customers, in turn, would have to pay more to those companies for coverage. The stakes for the Health and Human Services Department, which is overseeing the transition, are tremendous.

You can argue that Republicans have blocked President Obama from doing just about anything. You can argue that he´s had bad luck. You can argue that he isn´t always the greatest orator. But you can´t argue away that the Department of Justice took the unprecedented step of seizing phone records from the Associated Press. Or the flimsy rationale justifying drone attacks abroad and at home. Or the bizarre step the Pentagon has taken to expand the ability of the military (Snip) These are actions that President Obama and his top team have taken on their own.

The Benghazi Emails´ Backside-Covering
Washington Post Writers Group, by David Ignatius    Original Article

WASHINGTON -- The hundred pages of Benghazi emails released last week tell us almost nothing about how four Americans came to die so tragically in that Libyan city. But they are a case study in why nothing works in Washington. Rather than reading these messages for their substance on Benghazi (on which officials were still basically clueless three days after the attack), try perusing them as an illustration of how the bureaucracy responds to crisis -- especially when officials know they will be under the media spotlight.

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner, whose career in public life came to an abrupt end when he sent lewd pictures to a college student on Twitter, jumped back into politics on Wednesday by announcing a bid for mayor of New York City. “Look, I’ve made some big mistakes and I know I’ve let a lot of people down,” the Democrat said in a 2-minute video announcing his bid. “But I’ve also learned some tough lessons. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

What´s so interesting about 60 tea partiers protesting the IRS in San Jose, California on Tuesday, May 21st? On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.
