Washington - Craft store giant Hobby Lobby is bracing for a $1.3 million a day fine beginning January 1 for noncompliance with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, dubbed Obamacare. The company opposes providing some contraceptives to employees through its company health care plan on religious grounds, saying some contraceptive products, like the morning after pill, equate to abortion. After failing to receive temporary relief from the fines from the Supreme Court, Hobby Lobby announced late Thursday through its attorneys that it "will continue to provide health

This administration and Washington Democrats are out of control. When can the U.S. military step in? Surely the Joint Chiefs must be pretty disgusted by now.

Hobby Lobby can stop providing health insurance to its employees and pay the Obamacare fines; it´s cheaper. If you kill off employer provided health insurance, you pave the way to single-payer. That´s the plan. The Democrats want a unionized government run healthcare care system modeled after the appallingly bad NHS system in England. Almost all NHS employees vote Labor (i.e. Socialist) and the NHS is the 3rd largest bureaucracy in the world after the Chinese Red Army and the Indian Railways. It is all about power and control for the Left. It has nothing to do with improving healthcare.

Just the merest slight trickle coming out of the dam face. I can imagine that Hobby Lobby will close down for the duration rather than pay that fine. So will many others big and small.

One thing is for sure, having to pay a fine for not providing what was a perk for many years is not going to go over very well. Company funded health care is on it´s way bye bye.

Is the $1.3 million per day penalty an example of what Roberts referred to as a "tax?"

One thing you can be sure of is no liberal or muslim owned company would face a million dollar a day fine. This is pure and simple religious persecution which is banned under the first amendment. Of course judge Sotomanure couldn´t see that.

All they need to do is move their headquarters to one of the states that has opted out of the healthcare exchange and suffer no fines for not offering corporate insurance. The states that have opted out cannot fine corporations or individuals without insurance. Let the federal ecxhange handle their coverage.

May not be the most appetizing solution to the employees, but it´s better than tanking the company and having no job at all.

I wonder if it would be possible for Hobby Lobby to make every store into its own LLC, thereby keeping the number of employees under the Obamacare minimum. Of course, they could also incorporate in Bermuda, thereby leaving the US altogether. Corporations aren´t stupid, and even a 3,000 page nightmare law has loopholes.

As Jay Sekulow mentioned in an interview this morning, the First Amendment doesn´t mention "non-profit." In any case, Christianity is not "non-profit," for what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world, but loses his soul?

Christianity encourages the greatest of profit-seeking, and speaks well of all lesser kinds of profit-seeking, as long as it is subordinated to that greatest.

As others have observed, this is nothing less than a war against Christian values.

You have to admire Hobby Lobby for sticking to their principles. Chick-fil-A stood to theirs too, sort of....

This is the result of a totally rotten deal with the devil--Cheif Justice John Roberts saying that this crap was a tax, but it was not since the House of Representatives didn´t create it...

The notion that pro-life entities have to provide for abortion...

Even with Romney some sort of health plan would have emerged, just as when Hillarycare was defeated during Bubba Clnton´s term, Bob Dole of Kansas had a "plan"

Anyone else sick of the notion that whatever the dems promote that the "Republicans" can produce a better plan?

More government is not the solution--government is the problem!

What is "just" and what is "unjust"? Be careful how you consider this and line up your response to some real moral truth.
Afterwards, you can conclude rightly that unjust laws need not be followed.

#17, 20, et al: Not setting up an Obamacare healthcare exchange doesn´t exempt people in the state from Obamacare regulations -- it just lets the federal program provide the healthcare exchange services for them

There is no opting out of Obamacare or the HHS decrees, except for those orgs whose waiver applications are approved.

Is this not the case?

No one should be forced to provide birth control. What we need to work on is eliminating access to birth control, abortion and promiscuity.

KIEV/MOSCOW - Armed separatists took virtual control of a city in eastern Ukraine on Saturday and Kiev prepared troops to deal with what it called an "act of aggression by Russia". Pro-Russian activists carrying automatic weapons seized government buildings in Slaviansk and set up barricades on the outskirts of the city. Official buildings in several neighboring towns were also attacked. The developments have increased concerns of a possible "gas war" that could disrupt energy supplies across the continent. Casual marijuana use may come with some not-so-casual side effects. For the first time ever, researchers at Northwestern University have analyzed the relationship between casual use of marijuana and brain changes – and found that young adults who used cannabis just once or twice a week showed significant abnormalities in two important brain structures. The study’s findings, to be published Wednesday in the Journal of Neuroscience, are similar to those of past research linking chronic, long-term marijuana use with mental illness and changes in brain development. Dr. Hans Breiter, co-senior study author, said he was inspired to look at the effects of casual

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

Toddlers show racial bias when picking playmates, a study reveals. They also take account of how fairly others behave. Researchers tested the reaction of white 15-month-olds as toys were distributed. Two white adults divided the toys, one equally and the other unequally. Seventy per cent of the toddlers chose to play with the researcher who distributed the toys fairly. But in a second test, when one researcher favoured a white recipient over an Asian one, they picked the ‘fair’ researcher less often, the journal Frontiers in Psychology reports.
