Judge Bans New Year’s Eve
Possum Drop

Fox News, by Todd Starnes

Original Article

New York City may drop a giant Waterford crystal ball on New Year’s Eve, but the folks around Brasstown, NC prefer their method – dropping a live possum. “It ain’t the new year until the possum drops” has been the saying around town for the past 19 years – but not anymore. (Snip) “We’re not gonna break no laws.” Logan said he just doesn’t understand all the fuss about using a life possum. For years, they put the critter in a decorated cage and lowered him down at the stroke of midnight. Afterwards, they released the possum into the woods. But PETA argued it was cruel.

Comments:
You´d think that one would learn their lesson after watching "WKRP in Cincinatti" drop live turkeys out of a helicopter.

Arthur ´Big Guy´ Carlson: "As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly."

Ask some bikers what happened when PETA tried to boycott them at a rally...

Then go ahead and drop the possum!

Brasstown is a good example of what happens when lefties take over. It is a very artsy area and is promoted for the jewelry and incense crowd.
What was once folk art and metal working has devolved to mass produced jewelry and junk for the tourist crowd.

A judge actually heard this case and ruled on it?

If the Opossum is unhurt what´s the harm? I am so sick of "new people" moving into an area and demanding things be changed simply because they don´t like it....Move next to airport and then moan about the noise etc.

BTW...# 10 they were live turkey´s on WKRP..they just re-ran the episode several times on "Antenna TV" (WGN) over Thanksgiving. It was still funny...I can´t believe it was thirty four years ago already.

#8, Madrid, New Mexico became the same thing. It was a dead coal mining town and in the 60´s when the hippies moved in. They opened up shops in their houses and sold all sorts of things they made. (probably some they grew, also). I went back there a few years ago and was very disappointed. With just a few exceptions, all the hippies are fake. Some even had wigs. There was a fake gay guy running one store and everything for sale all over town is made in China or Mexico.
The whole place has become a complete let down. You cant even get into the saloon any more because of all the yuppie bikers posing in their leather and trying to look tough.

#10: it was live turkeys. The first ones they dropped plunged to their deaths and then the helicopter landed. The remaining turkeys escaped and started attacking the humans, particularly Les Nessman and the WKRP crew.

"It was like they were .... organized." Les says breathlessly.

So funny. Yes, I just watched this episode too.

I live in Brasstown. The possum drop is an absolutely innocuous event that is very popular. I am not aware the art-farts at the folk school had anything to do with the ban. It´s just the air head PETA people and their holier than thou ideologues morally masturbating themselves again.

I live not far from PETA headquarters in Norfolk. I only hope that some day the USS Wisconsin ´accidentally´ swivels the 16-inch turrets towards the building on the Elizabeth River and ´accidentally´ obliterates it [at night, of course, with no people in it].

Israel has canceled a planned session of ´peace talks´ with the Palestinian Authority (PA) that was scheduled for Wednesday evening, following the announced Hamas-Fatah reconciliation deal. Initial Israeli reactions to the deal came from the nationalist side of the map. Deputy Foreign Minister Ze´ev Elkin (Likud-Beytenu) said that the PA “once again has exposed the true unity of purpose between the hamas terrorists and the Fatah leaders – the annihilation of the Jewish state.” (Snip) "The signing of an agreement on a unity government of Fatah and Hamas is also the signing of the end of negotiations between Israel and the PA,” he declared.

France’s so-called top cop unveiled a dozen proposals on Wednesday aimed at stemming the flow of its residents toward the jihadist cause in Syria. Though some experts see the plan as a cynical political move ahead of European elections. The anti-radicalization plan presented by Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve seeks to thwart online recruitment efforts and make it harder for would-be fighters, especially the youngest ones, to get out of France. Additionally France wants to work the families left shattered by their loves ones´ departures. "The emergence of a new generation of seasoned terrorists likely to strike on French territory,

(Snip) Filed on Tuesday night in the US district court for the southern district of New York, the case accuses the US attorney general, Eric Holder, the FBI director, James Comey, the homeland security secretary, Jeh Johnson, and two dozen FBI agents of creating an atmosphere in which Muslims who are not accused of wrongdoing are forbidden from flying, apparently as leverage to get them snitching on their communities. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel informed his Egyptian counterpart, Colonel General Sedki Sobhi, of the decision in a call, saying the helicopters would support Egypt´s counterterrorism operations in the Sinai Peninsula, Pentagon spokesman Rear Admiral John Kirby said. Washington - US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel got a first-hand look at a life-size robot that resembles Hollywood´s "Terminator," the latest experiment by the Pentagon´s hi-tech researchers. But unlike the cinematic version, the hulking Atlas robot is designed not as a warrior but as a humanitarian machine that would rescue victims in the rubble of a natural disaster, officials said on Tuesday. The 6-foot-2-inch (187 centimeters) Atlas is one of the entrants in a contest designed to produce a man-like life-saver machine, the brainchild of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).

Manama - A Bahraini court has sentenced 12 men to life in prison for spying, receiving training from Iran´s Revolutionary Guard and processing weapons and explosives, a defence lawyer and rights activist said on Tuesday. Bahrain accuses Shi´ite power Iran of fuelling unrest in the country since a 2011 uprising led by the Shi´ite Muslim community demanding reforms and more share in running the kingdom ruled by the Sunni Muslim al-Khalifa dynasty. Washington - The administration of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has admitted to conducting a political reshuffle within the atomic energy agency in an effort to mute officials opposed to negotiations with the West over the country’s nuclear program. In a statement issued on Monday, a spokesman for Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization said that “a limited number of people were concerned, and they were neither scientists nor were they fired.” The statement was made after rumors of widespread dismissals proliferated on local websites last week. Rouhani and his nuclear negotiators are under intense pressure from Islamic hardliners

The Citizens Commission on Benghazi, a self-selected group of former top military officers, CIA insiders and think-tankers, declared Tuesday in Washington that a seven-month review of the deadly 2012 terrorist attack has determined that it could have been prevented – if the U.S. hadn´t been helping to arm al-Qaeda militias throughout Libya a year earlier. ´The United States switched sides in the war on terror with what we did in Libya, knowingly facilitating the provision of weapons to known al-Qaeda militias and figures,´ Clare Lopez, a member of the commission and a former CIA officer, told MailOnline. Public Trust: Sixty-one percent polled say President Obama lies "some of the time" or "most of the time" on matters of national importance. Americans have to ask: Why do we let him get away with it? It´s no surprise that a Fox News poll of 1,012 registered voters last week found immense distrust of a president whose main domestic initiative was based on a lie. The shock is that the same poll found his disapproval level down to its lowest since last fall. Asked, "How often do you think Barack Obama lies to the country on important matters?" 37% replied "most of

The Obama administration is poised to entertain a flood of new clemency applications from thousands of federal prisoners who were given harsh sentences under mandatory-minimum laws following drug convictions, Attorney General Eric Holder said Monday. Holder said in a short videotaped statement that he wants to shrink the federal prison population by a modest amount while ensuring ´that those who have paid their debts have a chance to become productive citizens.´ At the center of the move is a set of old sentencing rules that punished crack-cocaine offenders with more time behind bars than users or traffickers of powder cocaine.

Former Sen. Bob Dole (R-Kan.) said a number of junior GOP senators considering a presidential run in 2016 do not yet have the experience — specifically naming Rand Paul (Ky.), Marco Rubio (Fla.) and Ted Cruz (Texas). The former 1996 GOP presidential candidate sounded particularly skeptical of Cruz in an interview this week with The Wichita Eagle. "A number of the younger members, first-termers like Rand Paul, Rubio and that extreme-right-wing guy, Ted Cruz — all running for president now. I don´t think they´ve got enough experience yet," Dole said. The 90-year-old former senator said, however, his main concern about 2016 is living

If Jeb reaches for the nomination, there will be a titanic battle between the party establishment and the Tea Party. Steve Schmidt, McCain’s strategist in 2008, insists that in the end Republicans usually settle on the most electable candidate. To get by, this Bush may be forced to trim his positions, although the cautionary tale of Romney suggests that he would have to tack artfully and carefully for the sake of the general election. Certainly he will have the resources to outlast, discredit, and disqualify his rivals.

Washington - Michelle Obama said "splurging is the key to life" if you regularly eat right and stay active. Her biggest guilty pleasure: French fries. "How would you appreciate vegetables if you never had chocolate?" she asked. "You couldn´t live without a little chocolate, a little French fries." The first lady took questions from children reporters Monday after appearing at the White House Easter Egg Roll. She told the children that if they eat right the majority of the time, then a splurge or snack is not going to hurt them. "I still splurge when I can, but that's why I try to exercise almost every day," she said.

There’s a pattern of falsifying statistics throughout the entire Census Bureau. And anyone who attempts to blow the whistle on the fraud is either retaliated against or ignored, according to two new sources who have experienced the process firsthand. As I’ve been writing for more than six months, the Census Bureau office in Philadelphia uncovered a case of fraud in 2010, did nothing about it and allowed the practice to continue. In that instance, a data collector named Julius Buckmon was faking reports that went into the nation’s all-important jobless tally and consumer-inflation survey. Because the Census Bureau’s surveys are scientific — meaning
