| New York City may drop a giant Waterford crystal ball on New Year’s Eve, but the folks around Brasstown, NC prefer their method – dropping a live possum. “It ain’t the new year until the possum drops” has been the saying around town for the past 19 years – but not anymore. (Snip) “We’re not gonna break no laws.” Logan said he just doesn’t understand all the fuss about using a life possum. For years, they put the critter in a decorated cage and lowered him down at the stroke of midnight. Afterwards, they released the possum into the woods. But PETA argued it was cruel.

You´d think that one would learn their lesson after watching "WKRP in Cincinatti" drop live turkeys out of a helicopter.

Brasstown is a good example of what happens when lefties take over. It is a very artsy area and is promoted for the jewelry and incense crowd.
What was once folk art and metal working has devolved to mass produced jewelry and junk for the tourist crowd.

A judge actually heard this case and ruled on it?
If the Opossum is unhurt what´s the harm? I am so sick of "new people" moving into an area and demanding things be changed simply because they don´t like it....Move next to airport and then moan about the noise etc.
BTW...# 10 they were live turkey´s on WKRP..they just re-ran the episode several times on "Antenna TV" (WGN) over Thanksgiving. It was still funny...I can´t believe it was thirty four years ago already.

#8, Madrid, New Mexico became the same thing. It was a dead coal mining town and in the 60´s when the hippies moved in. They opened up shops in their houses and sold all sorts of things they made. (probably some they grew, also). I went back there a few years ago and was very disappointed. With just a few exceptions, all the hippies are fake. Some even had wigs. There was a fake gay guy running one store and everything for sale all over town is made in China or Mexico.
The whole place has become a complete let down. You cant even get into the saloon any more because of all the yuppie bikers posing in their leather and trying to look tough.

#10: it was live turkeys. The first ones they dropped plunged to their deaths and then the helicopter landed. The remaining turkeys escaped and started attacking the humans, particularly Les Nessman and the WKRP crew.
"It was like they were .... organized." Les says breathlessly.
So funny. Yes, I just watched this episode too.

I live in Brasstown. The possum drop is an absolutely innocuous event that is very popular. I am not aware the art-farts at the folk school had anything to do with the ban. It´s just the air head PETA people and their holier than thou ideologues morally masturbating themselves again.

I live not far from PETA headquarters in Norfolk. I only hope that some day the USS Wisconsin ´accidentally´ swivels the 16-inch turrets towards the building on the Elizabeth River and ´accidentally´ obliterates it [at night, of course, with no people in it].

WASHINGTON - There were new questions Saturday night concerning if anyone in the White House was aware of the IRS´ targeting of conservative groups. Inspector General Russell George said he informed a deputy at the Treasury Department in June of 2012 about the probe into the IRS. The Treasury Department confirmed the timeline but said they did not know the details of the investigation until last week.(Snip)Marcus Owens ran the tax-exempt division at the IRS for 10 years. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable.
