Consult with the Bible first there, pal. The Bible neither condemns, nor condones slavery, as it was a very common practice in the Middle East as a means of paying off one´s debts. Slaves did have the right to run away from an abusive master, and could find refuge in the home of another free-man, however, the Bible NEVER condones murder.

Another thing these modern day "plantation blacks" have haunting them is the large number of slaves who decided to remain in the employ of their former masters post-War. They were far happier and better taken care of than the ones who made it to the the New York City slums.
