| The tyranny is in full swing in Egypt, where the government has now banned anyone wanting to leave the country from taking more than $10,000 with them. This is the same measure used by the government of Iran to prevent emigration, or to confiscate the cash of those who do wish to emigrate. The purpose of the measure is supposedly to prevent deflation, with Egyptians running to withdraw their cash and get out of the Muslim Brotherhood-run quasi-dictatorship. Since the ouster of Hosni Mubarak, the Egyptian central bank has poured $20 billion in foreign reserves into the pound

Comments: You know Democrats would love to do the same thing if they had their way. I don´t remember who mentioned it on talk radio, but it was said that California would tax those who wanted to leave the state.

Look for a similar measure from Illinois, and New York soon.

This seems like the best reason I can find to buy physical gold (eg bars) to keep in your own possession. I can see this coming here to this country. We already have emigration taxes on capital gains -- you must pay your capital gains taxes in order to renounce your citizenship. This is what CA wants to do as well.

Lucette Lagnado describes something similar (if not worse) in "The Man in the White Sharkskin Suit," where she describes her (Jewish) family´s departure from Egypt:
"We had only a couple of months to sell our apartment and liquidate all our possessions. Under the draconian laws of the Nasser regime, we could take nothing with us save for a few Egyptian pounds; my family was allowed the equivalent of $200 for all six of us."
So Egypt has never had any trouble despoiling those who want to leave. Let´s hope that electronic money transfers (which didn´t exist in 1963) will make things easier for some of the people leaving.

I think the smart people in Egypt have spent the last 2 years getting assets out of the country, just in preparation for a move like this.

Fancy that. Nobody wants to live under your tyranny.
This is exactly the kind of thing the Demcrats want as our wealthiest people leave the country to avoid punitive taxes.

The Jews in Nazi Germany would leave with collectable postage stamps sewn inside their clothes and would sell them once they reached freedom for a fraction of their worth so they could at least recoup some of their lost fortunes while leaving a Germany intent on plundering whatever wealth they could.
Coming soon to an America near you!

Seems like I saw something about an ´exit tax´ being considered in California also ...
I would like to see Texas invoke a ´newcomers qualification test´ wherein one´s political leanings would be used to limit where you could live. Liberals would be limited to the Austin area primarily, and forbidden from running for political office for ten years.

There is a long history of this behavior. South Africa did it as people fled the new post-Apartheid rule, and, of course, as other neighbors of SA seized white-owned land and businesses, they instituted the same restrictions as well. It’s the economic equivalent of the Berlin Wall. When your country becomes unlivable, you forbid people and money from fleeing. It’s the socialist way.

I like your style #9. I only wish that the late Gov. Tom McCall would have made that a part of his policy when he was Governor of Oregon. Maybe we wouldn´t have as much trouble with liberal policies as we do now.

#2,3 - do you think the guards are too stupid to search people leaving? They´ll be inspected before they leave for any type of assets. Besides, gems would be easier since they´re worth more, are smaller and harder to detect.

All amounts over $100k in 401k accounts will be transferred to a government run ´pension fund´ - Under the "Retirees Income Protection Act of 20**. Sounds far fetched? So did the Kenyan´s re-election.

Of course California will be heralded as the pioneer in such stuff. If I am not mistaken some cities such as Philadelphia already tax visiting sports teams. I remember reading that a few overpaid professional sports thugs were complaining about all the tax stuff they had to report.

The Senate voted down an amendment to the upper chamber´s immigration bill proposed by Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) that would require a full biometric visa tracking system placed at every land, sea, and air port of entry in the United States before legalized immigrants could receive green cards. The measure, which was also called for by the 9/11 Commission in the wake of the 2001 terrorist attacks, would establish a biometric exit-entry system. Gang of Eight member Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) told Breitbart News last week

The immigration reform bill drawn up by the Senate Gang of 8 would boost the economy and lower the deficit, the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office says in a report out today. The newly released, and highly anticipated, report from the government’s nonpartisan bookkeeper comes as the Senate debates the bipartisan immigration legislation offered by the Gang of 8 and the House moves forward on a more piecemeal approach. The report, “The Economic Impact of S. 744, the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act,” says overall the legislation

NEW YORK — The New York Police Department´s widespread spying programs directed at Muslims have undermined free worship by innocent people and should be declared unconstitutional, religious leaders and civil rights advocates said Tuesday after the filing of a federal lawsuit. "Our mosque should be an open, religious and spiritual sanctuary, but NYPD spying has turned it into a place of suspicion and censorship," Hamid Hassan Raza, an imam named as a plaintiff, told a rally outside police headquarters shortly after the suit was filed in federal court in Brooklyn.

The departments of Justice and State this week are holding back-to-back LGBT events in honor of gay pride month, and as the Supreme Court prepares to deliver two landmark decisions on same-sex marriage. On Tuesday, the Justice Department celebrated pride with speeches from Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., the first openly gay member of the Senate, singer-songwriter and gay and lesbian activist Melissa Etheridge, and Attorney General Eric Holder, all on the theme "A Year of Firsts," according to DOJPride.com, the official site for LGBT Employees at the department. Mixed-race people are more likely to be considered black by conservatives, who are subconsciously attempting to “justify racial divisions,” said the authors of a new government-funded study. The report, originally released earlier this month, has begun attracting criticism from those who see political bias in the results. The study was conducted by graduate students and faculty in the psychology department of New York University. Researchers asked participants to look at pictures of mixed-race people and say whether they

The Clintons are getting the old band back together again for one last geriatric tour. Hillary 2016. Because 22 years of Clintons dominating the Beltway isn’t enough. Her campaign slogan: “Vote for me. I am a woman. What difference does it make?” The Draft Hillary movement is really taking off. There hasn’t been this much excitement behind a Draft Hillary movement since, well, the last time there was a Draft Hillary movement. Remember that? Back in 2008? When she was the “inevitable nominee?” She was the “most electable” Democrat running? She was the only one who

Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

As NewsBusters reported last week, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin called out vulgarian comedian Bill Maher for referring to her Down Syndrome son Trig as "retarded." On ABC´s The View Monday, co-host Barbara Walters astonishingly defended Maher saying, "I don´t think he intended it to be mean-spirited" (video follows with transcript and commentary): WHOOPI GOLDBERG: At a recent standup show in Las Vegas, comedian Bill Maher apparently called Sarah Palin’s five-year-old developmentally-challenged son Trig retarded. And Sarah blasted him on Twitter as a bully. Is that, is it, is he a bully? Is he a bad, what is he?

Jeb Bush says he’s not worried that his work toward comprehensive immigration reform and his ties to the GOP establishment will alienate conservatives and negatively impact a potential 2016 presidential campaign, referring to critics as “the chirpers.” “If I decide to run for office again, it will be based on what I believe, and it will be based on my record,” the former Florida governor said in an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody. “And that record was one of solving problems completely from a conservative prospective.” Bush (R) pointed to his conservative

A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago. However, the six whistleblowers, all part of the original investigation team, stopped short of saying the plane was shot down. Flight 800, a Boeing 747, had just taken off from JFK airport with 230 people aboard on July 17, 1996 enroute to Paris when it exploded

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.

Marco Rubio. Paul Ryan. The IRS. Illegal immigration. And fraud to the tune of billions.. Now there’s a combustible mix. Let’s start with the IRS, illegal immigration and fraud. We’ll come back in a minute to Senator Rubio and Congressman Ryan. For those who came in late, a year before the IRS scandals burst onto the scene in early May of 2013, an alert investigative reporter for WTHR-Indianapolis (Channel 13), Bob Segall by name, produced a stunning piece of journalism. Segall’s video report is found here and we will quote from his story for the basics.

It is understood that a contingency plan is in place for the unlikely event that an attempt would be made on the President’s life. The Secret Service also have diplomatic immunity which will allow them to shoot to kill a would-be assassin without fear of prosecution. As part of the “evacuation route” plan, they would be able to spirit the President by chopper to one of the carriers where a jet is on standby to take him back to the United States.
