A local New York newspaper is drawing the ire of its readers after publishing an interactive map that shows the names and addresses of thousands of residents who have handgun permits. The online map was published by The Journal News along with an article under the headline: "The gun owner next door: What you don´t know about the weapons in your neighborhood." The newspaper obtained, and then published, the names and addresses of pistol permit holders in Westchester and Rockland counties through a Freedom of Information Act request. The article, in explaining the decision to publish the

Comments:
Expect more of this thuggery and intimidation as the LSM and White House garner forces against the 2nd Amendment. This may just be the beginning salvo, using a "small" publication.

Disgusting.

Everyone responsible for the original article who owns no gun should have a sign in front of their home stating ´Gun Free Home´.

My guess is that the initmate personal details about the authors and editors will soon be available to one and all as a thank you gift from their fellow citizens who dod nothing but comply with the law.

In some states, the newspaper, publisher, and author would be criminally liable for a violation of firearms law. Interesting that no one has yet noted that the publisher and writer´s information has been placed on-line for all the world to see. (On the theory that "Sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander...). Just a little karma?

Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Clearly they have not thought this through. How will they feel when the names, addresses, phone numbers, and as much personal information as some furious hacker can get his hands on concerning the reporters and editors and owners of the paper and their closest relatives are put up on the internet? Maliciously provoking law abiding citizens with guns. Deliberately angering patient men. Some plan they have there.

Why would I be suprised that a similar freedom of information request for welfare recipients, medicaid recipients and food stamp recipients would not be (1) requested by this newspaper and (2) made easily available by the local authorities?

This is one time when the holier than thou liberal freaks are not going to win. They have just made all of the unarmed citizens in this neighborhood a target for criminals. Any spilled blood will be squarely on their heads. They are going to lose this argument.

Would this same paper ever publish a list of all the convicted firearms felons complete with their names and addresses?
Of course not. These people are always portrayed as victims, either explicitly or tacitly, and are therefore a protected class as far as the legacy media is concerned.

How do you get through the thick heads of those sanctimonious idiots that the publishing of this information is just an invasion of privacy to gun owners but, the real offense is to their neighbors who are, by omission, labeled gun free and open to predators. There´s a reserved place for these people.

Doubt many potential criminals read newspapers. Haven´t bought a fire arm in decades. But, if I do, it will be a private transaction so my name and address aren´t in a government data base.

Next they will be shouting down representatives from the NRA on News shows, oh already happening. They can Boycott Chick Fil a for not supporting gay marriage, Whose next to be boycotted. just like Jewish Merchants in Prewar Germany Welcome to the Police State. Waiting for Crystal Night.

Some people are concerned...That has as much credibility as the TV interviewer beginning a question with, "Some people say..." In many cases "some people" is nothing more than the interviewer. The article´s author has a permit. Fine. Include a residential address and an interactive map for him also. Their sanctimonious justification stinks. Aside from the potential consequences to individuals named, this is nothing more than harassment of a group that the newspaper wants to target.

Incredibly irresponsible and alarmist - but then, those Eastern tenderfeet have always been sissies afraid of their own shadows. Something in the water, perhaps? More likely, it comes from being ON the water, i.e. close to the Atlantic, where the most timid among our first immigrants hunkered down on arrival. Braver types moved steadily inland, over the mountains, following the frontier. The more pusillanimous clung to such safety and shelter as the towns near the coast could provide them. The gene pool suffered as a result. The problem is not new. Easterners were always on the side of the Indians once the frontier was at a safe distance. Lo! the poor Indian! Compassion was correlated with distance, especially from the scalping knife. And it is possible to make a strong case that Easterners with a mentality like the nitwits responsible for this latest stunt actually caused the U.S. Civil War with their militant abolitionism, which, among other acts, included underwriting John Brown´s raid on Harper´s Ferry. The same fanatical self-righteousness we find today was present then. Their motto has ever been fiat justitia ruat caelum: let justice be done, though the heavens fall.

The newspaper is basically equating gun owners with sex offenders, the only other group whose addresses are generally published anywhere. And, those houses without guns may not have them because there are young children in the house, so the sex offenders might also make some use of this list. Way to go newspaper.

Mr. Worley´s work email is

dworley@lohud.com

I sent him an email - I thought it bad form and bad judgment to call his home # on Christmas day - kind of like the bad judgment involved in putting together a map of handgun permits just because they´re available under a FOIA request.

Don´t forget that in NYC you have to have a difficult to get and expensive permit just to OWN a firearm. A permit to CARRY one is as common as finding a Unicorn on your doorstep. Unless you are very wealthy or very connected.

Several blogs last night listed names, addresses, telephone numbers, Email addys, twitter accounts, photos of homes (and owners) and maps prominently. Search any of the above- it will all be there.

#19, those who pushed west were "easterners", those who didn´t want the late arrivals (liberals) to ruin their country. Remember who first fought the British at Concord and Lexington. It was EASTERNERS. Many of them later fled the influx of sanctimonious liberal types, and moved north and west to places where men could be free. It has finally got to the point where liberals are everywhere, and continuing to life hell for us conservatives. It wasn´t the timid who first came to America and became easterners, who you hold such contempt for. Try looking around this country and tell me where the timid live, like California, Oregon and Washington, all hotbeds of liberalism. On my map they are all located on the WEST coast.

Those idiots have informed our criminal element where to obtain weapons without going through the Man.

Be assured of this: someone on that list is going to return home from a trip and find his guns gone, guns he had hidden or stashed in a gun case bolted to the floor.

When this happens, I expect a lawsuit, and the FOIA excuse be damned. The most charitable thing you can say about the decision to publish is, they weren´t thinking.

I´m having trouble trying to understand the mind process of this clown who came up with this idea. When you are granted permission by the FBI to legally carry a weapon, you have had to prove to them through all the public records that you have never done anything wrong other than park your car in the wrong place. To be allowed to obtain a CHL, you must be squeaky clean in the legal sense. Here in Texas we are proud to qualify for a CHL just to know that you are able to get one. Someone who intenionally questions this examination by the law seems to have some serious problems of his own and ought to be checked out himself. He´s got to be one creepy dude. Like throwing stones at an Eagle Scout. He´ll get his and it won´t be nice.

aww yes the big sex offender gig where only 1 in a 1000 should have been investigated and maybe 1 of that number tried instead of print a name and tie immediate guilt -- no trial necessary-- forget the Constitution that also states serve your time and be free. The offender may have been an innocent 6 year old but who cared . The one where time served detainees are still in prison without recourse . Where angry women learned they won by default via false accusations. Then all lawyers wanted to follow Reno´s foot steps into big time based on a framing that jailed a 17 year old who was determined innocent about 5 years later. Sort of the current Zimmerman case reflux.

I can´t give credit to the following because I don´t know where it came from but thought it pretty funny. If a man wants to marry a man, let the man marry a man. If a woman wants to marry a woman, let her marry a woman. If people want to get abortions, let them get abortions. Eventually all the democrats will be gone. Think about it, newsapers would be obsolete in no time.

Washington - When the State Department fields the first of 350 additional Marine security guards at high-risk embassies and consulates around the world later this year, the price tag will be steep: about $1.6 million per Marine. Why so much? It turns out that about $525 million of the $553 million that Congress approved this year to deploy more Marine guards — fulfilling a recommendation of the independent review panel that investigated the attacks last year on the diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya — is going toward building new command-and-control hubs

President Obama’s speech on Thursday was the most important statement on counterterrorism policy since the 2001 attacks, a momentous turning point in post-9/11 America. For the first time, a president stated clearly and unequivocally that the state of perpetual warfare that began nearly 12 years ago is unsustainable for a democracy and must come to an end in the not-too-distant future. “Our systematic effort to dismantle terrorist organizations must continue,” Mr. Obama said in the speech at the National Defense University. “But this war, like all wars, must end.
