Journalists rush to take
sides in gun debate

Washington Examiner, by Byron York

Original Article

Should journalists be advocates for tougher gun control measures? It´s a question worth asking as more and more reporters, commentators, and TV anchors are openly promoting stringent gun policies in the wake of the school shootings in Newtown, Connecticut. It´s not just the ranters on the left, like MSNBC´s Lawrence O´Donnell, who recently called National Rifle Association chief Wayne LaPierre "the lobbyist for mass murderers." O´Donnell is a controversialist who says things like that all the time. (Snip) More notable are the ostensibly straight-news journalists who have come down on the side of stronger gun control.

If you read the 2nd amendment narrowly to allow government control of guns, that can and will lead to a narrow interpretation of the 1st amendment to control speech.

One can´t help but wonder how many of these same pressitutes own guns themselves. I´ll bet a large number of them, but then we have known for years what hypocrites they are.

If everyone lines up on the same side is that really ´...taking sides.´ ?

Those who rush to give you "Settled Science" seem to have a big problem with settled con-law.

The defenders of liberty have a responsibility to claw their way into popular media and spread the good news of freedom and free people.

Byron ... you need to talk with the headline writer at the Examiner ... correct headline should be:

"Journalists rush to take one side in gun debate."

Actually I think it is time we have a serious discussion about common sense regulation of the news media. There is a clear connection between incidents like Sandy Hook and media 24/7 coverage. These individuals want there 15 minutes of fame. Then there are the copy cats. We should implement the following regulations.

There has to be a seven day waiting period before covering mass murders. This will allow time to actually collect facts.

Each news outlet would be restricted to one news story per month per incident.

All reporters assigned to write stories would have to pass a test showing they have a basic knowledge of firearms and close quarter combat before they are allowed to write news stories about mass murders.

Since we want to keep the mentally unhealthy from writing these stories each journalist would have to fill out a federal form attesting under penalty of law that they did not vote for Barack Obama.

There are very few journalists any more.
Please start calling them what they are, OPINIONISTS.
A journalist would report who, what, when, where and how. Those days are gone.

Lets face it....years ago Journalism was a profession ...It required a degree that was heavy on writing, history and geography and was both challenging and difficult to get....The field had a code of conduct based on objective REPORTING...Today most journalists are "communications majors" - which is the easiest degree to attain from any University...It shows in the quality of the reading (note I didn´t say reporting)

What those educated idiots really need to do is report a way to keep firearms out of the hands of dangerous crazy people. That´s where the problem lies. Obviously the current background check system does not do that.

I wish we had journalists that could read and understand the American language. Instead, we are stuck with journalists that only know the Liberal Gibberish language most libtards speak.

Belief in Santa Claus and "Journalistic integrity" are two tiresome delusions, although S Claus is at least meant to amuse the kids.

Expecting any other outcome than knee-jerk leftardism from robots mass produced in America hating uni-mills is simplistic and articles like this insult us in attempting to prolong the charade.

I think "propagandists" is a more appropriate title. They have no regard for the truth if it conflicts with their agenda. This sort of thing should not be afforded 1st amendment protection.

The MessNBC psychotic TV personality Lawrence "Creepy liar" O´Donnell needs to do some fact checking, and count up how many NRA members have ever murdered anyone, let alone "mass murdered."
"Zero" is a mighty significant number there, Larry boy.

Oh, Portland. A teenager urinated into one of the city’s drinking water reservoirs the other day. That’s gross, sure, and aggravating—what a brat! But in one of the most spectacularly stupid decisions in years, the city is going to drain the reservoir. (Snip) But is it possible to calculate precisely how illogical Portland’s decision is? Let’s try to put some numbers on it. Several smart people on Twitter quickly did the math and figured that a typical urination of about 1/8 gallon in a reservoir of 38 million gallons amounts to a concentration of 3 parts per billion.

In case you’ve ever wondered, when you take a psychiatrist to dinner (especially a forensic psychiatrist, like me), he doesn’t leave the office 100 percent. No well-trained psychiatrist can. The “third ear” we develop during training – the one that catches meaningful turns of phrase or attempts to be evasive – can’t be left at the office door entirely. When I had dinner with Lou and Linda Pelletier and three of their four daughters, Jennifer, Jessica and Julia, a few nights ago in Massachusetts, I wasn’t trying to evaluate them. They aren’t my patients. But I was listening for discordant psychological

Does Traditional College Debate

It used to be that if you went to a college-level debate tournament, the students you’d see would be bookish future lawyers from elite universities, most of them white. In matching navy blazers, they’d recite academic arguments for and against various government policies. It was tame, predictable, and, frankly, boring. No more. These days, an increasingly diverse group of participants has transformed debate competitions, mounting challenges to traditional form and content by incorporating personal experience, performance, and radical politics. These “alternative-style” debaters have achieved success, too, taking top honors at national collegiate tournaments over the past few years. But this transformation has also

Leaflets calling on Jews in the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk to register themselves with pro-Russian separatists may not be the work of the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic, Jewish groups have said. According to the World Jewish Congress, 17,000 Jews live in the city. The leaflets were handed out by several Balaclava clad men carrying a Russian flag earlier this week as well as being found plastered to buildings near a synagogue. They ordered all Jews aged 16 and older to register with the separatists, pay a $50 fee and report all motor vehicles and real estate in their possession. The flyers also said

British Prime Minister David Cameron used his Easter message to talk about the significance of the holiday as he highlighted the role of Christianity in Britain and the plight of Christians in countries where they are persecuted. He said the country should reflect on what Christianity brings to Britain. “All over the UK, every day, there are countless acts of kindness carried out by those who believe in and follow Christ,” Cameron said. “The heart of Christianity is to ‘love thy neighbour’ and millions do really live that out.” He mentioned prison ministries, soup kitchens and homeless shelters run by churches.

The debate over campaign contributions is never-ending for a simple reason: Both sides of the argument have merit. On the one hand, of course money is speech. For most citizens, contributing to politicians or causes is the most effective way to augment and amplify speech with which they agree. The most disdainful dismissers of this argument are editorialists and incumbent politicians who — surprise! — already enjoy access to vast audiences and don’t particularly like their monopoly being invaded by the unwashed masses or the self-made plutocrat. On the other hand, of course money is corrupting.

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. Imagine a vendor on the National Mall, selling burgers and dogs, who hasn’t paid his rent in 20 years. He refuses to recognize his landlord, the National Park Service, as a legitimate authority. Every court has ruled against him, and fines have piled up. What’s more, the effluents from his food cart are having a detrimental effect on the spring grass in the capital. Would an armed posse come to his defense, aiming their guns at the park police? Would the lawbreaker get prime airtime on Fox News, breathless updates in the Drudge Report, a sympathetic ear from Tea Party Republicans?
