| In a nebula far, far away..... Here´s special holiday photo. It´s another one of those amazing Hubble Space Telescope photographs that captures the stellar beauty of space beyond what our naked eyes can see from Earth. This array is known as NGC 5189. NASA released it because it looks like a Christmas holiday light house beyond anything your showy neighbors could come up with. This planetary nebula resembles colorful blown glass to some eyes, like mine. It actually captures one of the final stages of a dying star, not unlike our Sun in a few billion years.

I heard that the star is only dying because Mitt Romney took away its health insurance.
(The claim seems somewhat nebulous.)

Good compound pun, #2. Thanks for the chuckle.
I sure don´t see anything like a Christmas house there; but then again, I could never make out anything in those 3-D ´fractal´ panels that were popular a decade or two ago.
PS: The HST web site has a vast collection of awesome images like this planetary nebula. I must have 2,000 of them saved, along with the descriptive write-ups that come with ´em.

New York - Police say a gunman used anti-gay slurs before fatally shooting a 32-year-old man in New York City´s Greenwich (GREN´-ich) Village. Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said Saturday that the shooting, which occurred just after midnight, appears to have been a hate crime. Kelly says the gunman was seen urinating on the street outside a bar. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The lawmaker leading the charge to investigate the Benghazi terror attack on Friday subpoenaed the co-author of a report that slammed the State Department but didn´t interview Hillary Clinton. House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) formally demanded that retired ambassador Thomas Pickering submit to being deposed by the committee next Thursday. The subpoena comes in the wake of a series of acrimonious public exchanges this week between the two men. Issa didn´t issue a subpoena to former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Michael Mullen, who co-authored the Benghazi report with Pickering.
