Monica Lewinsky: The Inside Story
of an Epic Newsweek Scoop

Newsweek Magazine, by Michael Isikoff

Original Article

It isn’t often in this business that you’re sitting at your desk and you get a phone call from a source that causes you to nearly fall off your chair. But that’s exactly what happened in my office at Newsweek’s Washington bureau early on the afternoon of Jan. 13, 1998. “There’s a little event going on at the Ritz-Carlton in Pentagon City right now you might want to know about,” my (very plugged-in) tipster told me. Linda Tripp was having lunch with her good friend Monica Lewinsky—and Ken Starr had the whole thing wired. Starr?! Yes, my source said: I know it sounds crazy, but Starr

Comments:
I love how Isikoff tries to pretend Newsweek wasn´t trying to keep a lid on the story until Drudge scooped them and forced their hand. And he still is smug about supposedly having more and better information.

I firmly believe that if Matt Drudge had not hit the enter key we would have not heard or read a word about this.

I for one do not put much stock in what rodents say.

This is truly hilarious. A MSM house organ, Newsweek, about to stop printing, is trying to retroactively take credit for breaking the Clinton-Lewinsky story. EVERYBODY now knows that they sat on the story for weeks until Drudge broke it publicly. It´s annoying, but also pathetic. Bye, bye Newsweek. Bye, bye Isikoff. It was not nice knowing you. I am SO glad you are now history.

Trying to rewrite history, Isikoff? Drudge and Lucianne, I believe, brought the story to the American people.

Clinton beating the rap on this really created the template for other dems to lie, weasel and spin their way out of other messes. The MSM didn´t come on on fast and furious or Benghazi until all the culprits were were off the hook in absurd internal investigations.

Epic, schmepic.

A hillbilly and his ho; nothing mo.´

The tawdry tale has been told so many times and in so many ways it makes me sick just thinking about those two subhuman creepy-crawlies.

The issue isn´t Clinton/Lewinsky as much as this: how many similar stories were spiked over the years, with 99.99% of them involving lefties?

Reply 9 - Posted by: mozey, 12/24/2012 6:40:14 PM     (No. 9082452)

Isikoff at his best, bringing us the last dying, gurgling lie of a putrid rag/mag.

How many stories is the media spiking about Barack Obama? The media won´t even tells about Benghazi, when we all know about that.

Who in Starr´s office was the tipster? Newsweek seemed more interested in finding dirt on Starr than they did about the sitting prez having an affair and lying about it.

Monica lewinxki: The inside story of an epic newsweek failure. That´s better.

I believe that this was the time when the new media trumped the old media.

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. She was determined to

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

What´s so interesting about 60 tea partiers protesting the IRS in San Jose, California on Tuesday, May 21st? The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. What was a DHS agent doing at the San Jose Tea Party protest? (snip) they weren´t just spying on us in San Jose and monitoring us in San Francisco, they were watching us throughout the entire state

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”

Anthony Weiner’s New York mayoral candidacy was only made more improbable today after he revealed that he visited a Houston psychiatric facility following his resignation from Congress in 2011. Haunted by scandal surrounding his sexually explicit online communications with women, the Democratic former congressman sought treatment for his compulsive behavior from mental health professionals at the Gabbard Center. According to its website, the facility provides “3-day outpatient psychiatric evaluation,” particularly to “professionals who are in personal or professional crises.” While Weiner did not disclose
