| As godless secularism becomes more and more entrenched in our culture, the Christmas season is one of the most contentious times in our calendar. Every year, there are stories in the news of banned Christmas trees or of Christmas trees renamed "holiday trees." Christmas concerts at public schools draw threats of a lawsuit (even when the poor in Africa are the beneficiaries!), and U.S. congressmen are barred from wishing their constituents a "Merry Christmas" in their official mailings. This year, even Charlie Brown is creating controversy.

Comments:
While it is easy to get warm and fuzzy about a small helpless baby, it is His claims as a man and the reality of His resurrection that are the true heart and soul of Christmas.

Thanks for posting. I have printed this and will read it at my family´s Christmas Day dinner table. This truth never gets old and only by believing this with all my being can I face the next few years with the anti-Christ president of America. May God have mercy on us!

The Muslim pResident has no concept of the meaning of CHRISTmas. Apparently, he feels this should be the season of growing forests or some such......otherwise, why so many trees in our White House. The forest....for the Big Bad Wolf. Satan himself.

This season I have taken delight in answering Merry Christmas when someone wishes me a happy holiday. The answering delight on their faces and a joyous wish of Merry Christmas from them makes my day. But it seems as though we two are speaking a coded message that perhaps the rest of society does not want uttered.

Even in the time of Caesar and the Roman empire, true Christians remained firm in their beliefs and worship. Today we have many "little bitty Caesar´s....the ACLU, atheists who want everything banned, secularists, many judges and courts, etc." who seek to ban Christianity from the public square, schools and public discourse. Let us continue to worship, pray for the lost souls and resist all attempts to stifle or suppress our Christian beliefs and traditions. Wish´em all Merry Christmas and drive´em crazy!!!

For the past 15 years, I´ve taken fiendish delight in wishing people a hearty "Merry Christmas," in the hope that someone would get offended. So far, no one has, even though I live in California, the land of the Grinches.
If someone ever did, I would simply tell him to get over it. I´m not about to apologize for enjoying the Christmas season.

Who wants to be confronted with the idea that maybe they are ignoring the most significant event in human history? Who wants to be reminded that perhaps Jesus Christ really was (and is) a King?
Perhaps Pascal´s Wager should be carefully examined.
What non-Christians object to is the exclusive nature of the Christian religion. It excludes all other "truths". For the Christian, there is no such pabulum as "True for you but not for me". If one studies Christ´s own words and those of Scripture, one is left with an "offensive" message, i.e., there is no Truth other than that which comes from Christ Jesus.
Christianity has been an offensive religion since Jesus walked the earth. It is still offensive because it is utterly politically-incorrect.
While I know no Christians who want to "shove their religion down our throats", as is so often claimed by non-Christians, we do believe that Jesus is exactly who He said He was. He still is, and by His sacrifice, we have eternal life.
There is indeed something to "confront" in Christmas. As C.S. Lewis said, Jesus did not allow for any other pathway than what He proclaimed. Jesus said He alone was the Way, the Truth and the Life. He didn´t add, "...unless you find something more warm and fuzzy that will appeal to everyone."

I too have been saying Merry Christmas in response to "Happy Holidays" and people love it. The "Merry Christmas " I get back is genuine. Their voices, and expressions change when they say it. They feel good, and I feel great. P.S. They don´t know that I´m Jewish.

There is a Christmas song, not sung anymore, but my mother used to sing it in church at Christmas. It´s called The Babe in the Manger. The first verse sums up the message of the article:
"Do you worship the babe in the manger
But reject the Christ of the cross?
Your redemption comes not by the manger
But the death of Christ on the cross."
The center of Christmas is the cross. I love the way its message is summed up in the verse of another, modern hymn, by Keith Getty and Stuart Townend:
"Son of Adam Son of heaven
Given as a ransom
Reconciling God and man
Christ our mighty Champion!
What a Saviour what a Friend
What a glorious mystery
Once a babe in Bethlehem
Now the Lord of history"

Exactly, #10. I once heard a priest simplify your post by saying, "Without Christ´s resurrection, Christmas would be meaningless".
Ditto everyone on the wishing of "Merry Christmas". When a cashier in a store gives me that wish instead of the PC "HH", I stop and thank them. At the supermarket last night a cashier in another check out was wearing a "Jesus is the reason for the season" sweatshirt with her Santa hat. I walked over and thanked her too.
Merry Christmas everyone and a blessed one too!

A new analysis of the American Freshman Survey, which has accumulated data for the past 47 years from 9 million young adults, reveals that college students are more likely than ever to call themselves gifted and driven to succeed, even though their test scores and time spent studying are decreasing. Psychologist Jean Twenge, the lead author of the analysis, is also the author of a study showing that the tendency toward narcissism in students is up 30 percent in the last thirty-odd years.

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. One of two men allegedly being questioned in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings was shot and killed by an FBI agent in Florida on Tuesday, (Snip)A friend of Ibragim Todashev said he and Todashev were being investigated as part of the Boston bombings. He said Todashev, 27, knew bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev because both were MMA fighters. The man claims he and Todashev were interviewed by the FBI for nearly three hours on Tuesday. The friend said he left the interview, and when he came back to the apartment he found that there had been a shooting.

Eva Longoria is backing up her beauty with a whole lot of brain. The actress graduated with a master´s degree Wednesday. Longoria, 38, took home a real degree (not an honorary one) in Chicano studies from Cal State Northridge, where she physically attended classes for three years, according to TMZ. "Big day today!!! Very excited to graduate for my master´s degree in Chicano studies! You´re never too old or too busy to continue your education!" the actress wrote on her Who Say site Wednesday, sharing loads of pics of her big day, posing with her family, cohorts and diploma.

What´s so interesting about 60 tea partiers protesting the IRS in San Jose, California on Tuesday, May 21st? The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”
