Sen. Michael Crapo
Arrested on DUI Charge

ABC News, by Dean Schabner

Idaho Sen. Michael Crapo was arrested a charge of driving under the influence early today after he allegedly ran a red light in Alexandria, Va., police said. The Idaho Republican was arrested without incident after he failed a field sobriety test, Alexandria police spokesman Jody Donaldson told ABC News Radio. Crapo was released on a $1,000 bond, and has a court date scheduled for Jan. 4, 2013. Crapo released a statement apologizing for the incident. “I am deeply sorry for the actions that resulted in this circumstance,” Crapo said. “I made a mistake for which I apologize to my family,

Comments:
I will withhold my usual glib remarks to just say that there should never be a reason for someone in "high office" to get a DUI. Crapo, A Republican Senator from Idaho, should have enough paid staff to get him around, especially "parties." Inexcusable.

Take a cab home, just make sure you return it the next morning.

I´m curious if ABC gave this much attention to Saint Teddy when he killed Mary Jo?

So far, I haven´t heard that Crapo killed anyone and then lied to authorities to cover it up....

As a fellow Mormon, I think I´m safe in saying this will end Mr. Crapo´s political career. Probably for the best... although he campaigns as a conservative, he seems to have become part of the big, corrupt political machine. (He´ll retire and continue as part of the machine, collecting a sweet pension courtesy of the good taxpayers, while simultaneously lobbying... the standard career path.)

Nice to see that ABC mentions the party affiliation right away. I guess they´ll be doing that with democrats now too. Right?

As a fellow Idahoan this frustrates me. If you want to drink, get a sober driver but at least he didn´t kill anyone.

Crapo...

What an...unfortunate...last name.

I bet it sucked to be him growing up.

Didn´t mention his blood alcohol level. DUI is bad, but sounds like a borderline one, or they would have said he was totally wasted.

This is terrible, I agree. My heart goes out to all you good conservative Idahoans who will have to deal with this thing. Crapo´s timing really stinks. However, can I say it? #2 is right. And, pray tell, guess I missed the mug shot on Drudgereport and all the top of the hour FNC reporters announcing Sam Donaldson´s recent DUI? The media all so sensitive about a family´s privacy when it´s one of their media buds OR any Democrat? Sorry but I do feel better now.

If he was a drunken Democrat who left his mistress to drown, this wouldn´t be a big deal....

Sometimes, it really pays to be a Kennedy. When the Kennedys are too drunk to drive, the police just politely drive them home and the MFM say nothing more about it.

The fool didn´t realize that if he wanted to become a "Lion of the Senate," he´d need to have driven his car into the river and left a young female intern to drown.

Why didn´t he use Kennedy´s excuse and say he was on his way to vote in congress? It worked for Kennedy.

Only a Kennedy can drive drunk and not be arrested. Doesn´t anyone know that yet?

Perhaps the Senator could have told the cops he was on his way to vote like Patches did to see if that line worked for Republicans.

Why was he still in the DC area? The Senate is adjourned; he should be in Idaho.

Any of our politicians that hang around DC when they do not have to be there, should be replaced.

Note the different treatment for Patrick Kennedy´s drunk driving crash, where he wasn´t even given a sobriety test and an officer drove him home. He said he´d taken sleeping pills and the media obligingly printed his version (ABC News: "Kennedy´s Crash Highlights Dangers of Ambien")

#1 - Yes, many of us have had our brushes with drinking and the law. I took a cab home once and sure enough on the way home there was a police road block, but since it was a cab they just waved it past and I arrived home safely without incident.
This was actually a real surprise since I had never driven a cab before, I don´t know where I got it and now that it´s in my garage I don´t know what the heck to do with it. Need a cab...anyone?

If it´s DUI and it´s an R, then the MSM will ride him hard. How long before he´s chased out of office by the D mob?

PS, #21 -- that´s a good story to share.

Under Florida law, Hunt could see up to 15 years in prison and must register as a sex offender. A plea deal, however, remains on the table that would give Hunt two years´ house arrest and one year of probation, her family said. “Does my daughter deserve to lose her life for

As the impasse over Tehran’s nuclear program worsens, those most likely to be directly affected by an Iranian bomb are showing greater alarm. While the media fixates on Israel and its possible reaction, other regional players have no less at stake. Despite Riyadh’s long-held advocacy of making the Middle East a zone free of weapons of mass destruction, there has been much speculation in the past few years about the possibility of its acquiring, or developing, nuclear weapons should Tehran obtain the bomb. In the words of Saudi King Abdullah: “If Iran developed nuclear weapons (...) everyone in the

The Vatican has denied claims that Pope Francis performed an exorcism, after TV images showed a man apparently reacting to him putting his hands on his head. The encounter - during Sunday Mass - was shown on a TV channel owned by the Italian bishops´ conference. The station quoted exorcists as saying there was "no doubt" the Pope had either performed an exorcism or a prayer to free the man from the devil. Its director later apologised for "having altered the truth". The Pope´s spokesman said he "did not intend to perform any exorcism".

Mexico City - Guatemala’s highest court on Monday threw out the genocide conviction and prison sentence of the former dictator Gen. Efraín Ríos Montt. The decision by Guatemala’s Constitutional Court was a dramatic legal victory for General Ríos Montt, 86, and a blow to human rights advocates who had called his conviction a sign that Guatemala’s courts would no longer allow impunity for the country’s powerful. General Ríos Montt was sent to prison immediately after the verdict on May 10 when a three-panel tribunal found him guilty of genocide and crimes against humanity.

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. But he insisted McDonough and the other White House officials purposely kept Obama out of the loop.McDonough “rightly chose not to take action” to inform Obama, Carney told reporters at the daily White House briefing.

The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

Former Democratic National committee chairman Howard Dean considers the controversy over Benghazi a “joke” and “silly.” “Benghazi is a laughable joke,” Dean proclaimed twice in a discussion with Republican National Committee communications chairman Sean Spicer last week. “With all due respect, governor, when four Americans die serving this country, that’s not a joke, sir,” Spicer responded. “Oh, stop it,” said Dean. The former Democratic presidential candidate also said that there were “no serious questions being asked about Benghazi” and brushed it off as an effort by Republicans to score political points.
