| When you lose an election you get frustrated. When you’re sitting in a subpar 2 percent economy, and are faced with tax hikes rather than marginal rate reductions, you get even more frustrated. And when you’re staring at $47 trillion in spending over the next ten years, and $8.6 trillion in deficits, your frustration levels climb even higher. These are among the frustrations that led a number of House Republicans to pull back from Speaker John Boehner’s so-called Plan B. Nobody looked good on the Republican side when Thursday night’s vote fell through.

Nobody looked good, Larry? Is that what this is about now? I´m glad some Pubbies stood their ground. Boehner´s sell-by date has passed, even if he is a good man. Problem is they will replace him with his clone instead of someone who can lead the party out of this mess.
All the Pubbies, House and Senate, need to be locked in a room and forced to listen to Ronald Regan speeches for about 3 months. Maybe it would sink in.

Compromise! Compromise! That´s like drinking only one glass of poison rather than two. Democrats never compromise. It´s their way period.
We are in debt beyond imagination. It´s time to stop spending money we do not have. It´s time to stand on what is right or back off and let the dems have the entire ball and see what they do with it. The blame will then be all theirs.

Who controls the Nation´s "purse strings?" The House Republicans! They have not defunded any program or agency since they took over in 2010. I grow tired of screaming at my TV every time I see Mr. Speaker complaining about how the pResident won´t work with him. Cut the funding for the EPA and Education. Defund EVERYTHING that has "Corps" in it´s name but doesn´t begin with United States Marines do not fund Obamacare. There, that´s a start...

Speaker Boehner has made his own frustration by caving every chance he gets. He needs to go. We need somebody with guts to stand up to the dems.

Talking with Obama about something economically sensible is like debating the Devil about schoolgirl skirt lengths. Obama was never intelligent or serious enough to do anything. I think he´s idiot enough to think that the tax rates don´t matter to the economy (and will get his comeuppance when the economy tanks), he´s lazy enough not to make his party agree to anything and so ill-prepared for his position that he couldn´t negotiate getting an apple out of a wet paper bag. Boehner should have been THAT pessimistic when the whole thing started, used HIS position to pass a serious budget and tax rate proposals and sent them to the Senate to die...
...on Harry Reid´s account.
Larry makes Boehner´s work sound good... and it probably is. It was just never realistic.

The thesis in the article is - we understand your frustration but just one last strategic retreat then we will start winning... It all reminds me of another perpetual issue that goes back to the time of Reagan. Reagan accepted amnesty on the border in return for border security. This has been repeated multiple times and now people are saying enough, first we have border security and then one last amnesty. They are all called extremist, inflexible, etc. etc... The same with spending and taxes. Spending is the problem and Obama gets the republicans to talk about taxes. Enough already! Get serious! Obama must be forced to make real concessions on spending cuts for right away NOW before any discussion of tax increases. Without that you may as well wipe out all taxes because the printing of money is a perfectly fair tax on all wealth and income because it will destroy the currency making it worthless!!

You don´t get you best deal standing around loooking for it. John Boehner should take a cue from the Chief Executive of the United States...walk away. If you truly believe you´ve done your part, John, then you have no reason to stick around. Let ol´ Harry Reid start doing some heavy lifting, starting with the "DOA" bi-partisan budget you put in his in-basket months ago.

Have you seen the President´s poll numbers? Something like 54% approval. The Republican House of Representatives has no backing in the country. The President knows he has a chance to make the Republicans so unpopular that they will lose the House in the next election. If you were Boehner, would you try to side step his trap or step into it? Boehner is twisting and turning every way he can think of to salvage what he can. Larry Kudlow is a strong conservative and a very smart man.

Listening to Larry now, I think he may be back on the bottle. His defense of Boehner is pathetic. John Kyl says he is annoyed with both republicans and democrats that won´t go along with Plan B. We need a NEW SPEAKER.....He needs to be using the Speakers´ bully pulpit of HIS/HER office like that louse Nancy Pelosi always did. Can´t stand any of these jerks.

shaddup Larry. The Republicans are in the toilet because they keep compromising with the progressives. The old saw, "you´ve got to stand for something ..." actually means something to us out here in the real world. If you want to make a real discovery, get the "blank" out of the north-east pest-hole corridor for a few days and talk to someone with a real life.

#7 said it well. The threats and empty promises from the GOP are no longer going to motivate millions of conservatives. We are constantly told to "wait" and when we do? We are told to "take what we can get." Pelosi is what she is but when she had the Speaker´s gavel, she knew how to use it. Dems have no problem when they are in the minority - they fight like a banshee every day to move THEIR agenda. Now, right on time, the DC GOP consultant class out there trying to put a smiley face on this disaster of a Speaker. Truth matters. Boehner is not fit to be the Speaker. His own caucus knows it.

This is tripe, Kudlow. This is not about any politician, it is about this country. You can spend your money, or politicians can, and right now they are spending all they can tax, borrow, and print. When Russia and Israel´s economy failed, they passes a law against printing money to finance deficits. We need one to. We also need an economist, apparently not Kudlow, that will tell the truth and stand up for what needs to be done.

Poster #10 - as usual, a voice of reason.
Boehner´s been in a no-win situation from the get-go. As long as Obama was fully prepared, even eager, to go over the cliff these talks were destined to go nowhere. And grandstanding over taxes would have gained our side (and American taxpayers) nothing.
For years now conservatives have allowed the left to control the narrative and take advantage of the public´s dismal ignorance of economics. It´s just not realistic to expect JB or any other Speaker to stand on a soapbox and try and make up for that in a couple of weeks, especially against a newly re-elected president and demagogue-in-chief.
And is any sitting congresscritter prepared to credibly challenge Boehner for the Speakership? No? Well then, everyone needs to take a deep breath.

Zippy doesn´t have an opinion one way or the other. He´s told what to think, told what to say, told to keep out of the way and go play golf, or basketball, or watch sports, or concerts. He is an empty shell filled with hate that clearly believes in what he´s being fed. He´s loved by the media because he´s just like them - paid a lot of money to know nothing and just read what is put in front of them.
Boehner is just plain useless.

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) on Thursday said the House won't pick up the Senate immigration bill and pass it. "The House remains committed to fixing our broken immigration system, but we will not simply take up and accept the bill that is emerging in the Senate if it passes," said the statement from Boehner, his top three lieutenants and Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), the chairman of the Judiciary Committee, which has jurisdiction on immigration. "The House remains committed to fixing our broken immigration system, but we will not simply take up and accept the bill that is emerging in the Senate if it passes," the statement said. "Rather, through regular order,

President Obama offers only weasel words to explain deaths in Libya and IRS abuses. He’s the master of verbal evasion. House Republicans need to replace debate with action to hold the president accountable on these issues. To get to the bottom of why four Americans died in Benghazi, Libya on September 11, 2012, House Republicans should issue a formal resolution demanding to know where the president was on the night September 11 and what role he played. Obama needs to be put on the hot seat. Benghazi- For eight months, the White House has maneuvered

Much has been written and said about the astoundingly tone deaf performance of White House spokesman Jay Carney during this past month of scandals. The former journalist has lost the confidence of the people who were once his colleagues due to his unwillingness to tell the truth about his own deceptive statements (never mind those he represents in front of the press) about the Benghazi talking points or even to acknowledge that he has changed his story. The same applies to the shifting story he has told about the Internal Revenue Service scandal

A nonprofit connected to Rep. Corrine Brown (D., Fla.) and run by a local political power player overbilled Medicaid by nearly $1.4 million, the Florida Times-Union reported. According to an audit by the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration, the Community Rehabilitation Center in Jacksonville overbilled Medicaid by nearly $1.4 million. Reggie Gaffney, a former Jacksonville Port Authority board member, runs the nonprofit, which provides medical services for mental illness, substance abuse, and HIV/AIDS for low-income residents. Brown’s daughter, Shantrel, is a lobbyist for Arlington-based Alcade and Fay, whose clients include the nonprofit. C

Former Cambridge neighbors of a Russian mixed martial arts brawler shot dead by an FBI agent early yesterday in Florida — after ?being questioned about his ties to the marathon bombing and a Waltham triple murder — said he was nasty. Ibragim Todashev, 27, also hung around with slain marathon bombing mastermind Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26 — swilling beer and eating chicken on a stoop on Harding Street, they said. “I was the happiest person when they moved. ... It’s a little more peaceful since they left,” a neighbor told the Herald yesterday of the Russian buddies.

The 2012 election season was filled with angry cries of “voter suppression,” almost all of them regarding attempts by states to require voter ID and otherwise improve ballot integrity. Bill Clinton warned that “there has never been — in my lifetime, since we got rid of the poll tax and all the other Jim Crow burdens on voting — the determined effort to limit the franchise that we see today.” Democratic-party chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz said “photo-ID laws, we think, are very similar to a poll tax.” All of this proved to be twaddle.

The Justice Department’s secret seizure of phone records from The Associated Press and its monitoring of Fox News reporter James Rosen are nothing less than thuggish attempts to criminalize the practice of journalism — the only profession specifically protected by the US Constitution. Free and open inquiry is also the cornerstone of our democracy, a legacy of the Enlightenment that found its clearest expression in the First Amendment: “Congress shall make no law . . . abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press.” By which the Founders specifically meant political speech. They understood that, even with the checks and balances

Former Rep. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

He said Todashev, 27, knew bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev because both were MMA fighters. The man claims he and Todashev were interviewed by the FBI for nearly three hours on Tuesday. When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. She was determined to

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor 3rd. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight committee Wednesday.

What´s so interesting about 60 tea partiers protesting the IRS in San Jose, California on Tuesday, May 21st? The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. What was a DHS agent doing at the San Jose Tea Party protest? (snip) they weren´t just spying on us in San Jose and monitoring us in San Francisco, they were watching us throughout the entire state
