| Maybe America won’t go over the “fiscal cliff” after all. President Obama yesterday urged Congress to pass a middle-class tax cut for those making under $250,000 and adopt yet another unemployment-benefit extension while punting everything else — including mandatory spending cuts — until next year. The offer came one day after Speaker John Boehner was forced to yank his own tax bill from the House floor; he was unable to get enough Republicans to support a plan to keep Bush-era tax cuts in effect for Americans making less than $1 million. Boehner and the Republicans didn´t have to do a thing. The House took care of this "fiscal cliff" problem on August 1, 2012 by passing the Job Protection and Recession Prevention Act of 2012.

This bill passed 256 Yeas 171 Nays with 19 democrats voting for it. All Boehner had to do was to remind the public that this problem had been attended to and if blame was to be meted out the media should go over to the Senate and ask Harry Reid why he refused to let the Senate take action on this bill. If the Boehner felt the need to pass something, anything, he could have proposed extending the unemployment benefits, the FICA tax reduction and abolishing the Alternative Minimum Tax.
Boehner could have saved himself and the rest of us a lot of grief had he just used the tools he already had.

We´re told the dreaded Bush tax cuts caused the sub-prime bust up. And everything including heartburn, cancer and flat feet. Now the prospect of returning to the tax rate of the glorious Clinton years is called a fiscal cliff. I doubt "low information" voters will see the irony.

Count on this--no cuts of any kind, your taxes go up no matter what, and we will continue deficit spending and never pay down any of our accumulated debts.
This is not new-- the only thing is that the Bush tax cuts will be lost, and your payments to the gubmit will still be more than before.
The stupidity of that summer deal to create a committee to look at ways to make cuts was a joke, and we all knew it at the time, but we got suckered into "doing something" rather than looking ineffective--it was a deal made with the devil who is now holding the leash!

The above posters have nailed it. We are under a tyranny of ignorance brought on by the age of the low information voter. The cure for this will require education reform, but with the democrats firmly ensconced in the education industry, there is little hope for that.

For years all we heard from the know nothings was how the Bush tax cuts only benefited the rich. So, they should not have any reason to complain when they all expire next month.

I volunteer with a great group of people, but of course there are a few flaming LIEberals in the bunch.
Two weeks ago, one of them stated "All the Republicans that signed the Norquist pledge for no tax increase should be impeached for violating their oath of office!!"
I´m sitting there thinking ´OK, I´m a high school drop-out and he was a college professor, did I read the same oath--protect and defend the Constitution--that he read? What part of the Constitution says the House of Representatives have to violate their conscience and vote more funds for items that are clearly unconstitutional? Is there a Department of Education in the Constitution? An EPA? A HUD?? Fannie Mae?? Freddie MAC?? Lifetime welfare and medicaid for those too lazy to find a job??´

Men´s Wearhouse no longer likes the way George Zimmer looks. Zimmer, the founder, chairman and the public face of the discount apparel chain, has been terminated by the company, according to a brief statement from the company. Men´s Wearhouse gave no reason for Zimmer´s departure -- which surfaced on Wednesday, just hours before the company postponed its annual shareholders meeting. A company spokesman declined comment but said Zimmer´s departure would not affect operations.

The ongoing saga of Edward Snowden has at least been moving in the right direction for President Obama. Snowden may once have tried to position himself as a whistleblower, but he has since devolved into ingratiating himself with authoritarian regimes by plying them with American national security secrets. An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lied to the Senate when he said there was never a “stand down” order during the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012. “What was fascinating is that he explained his lie to them,” Joe DiGenova, an attorney representing one of the whistleblowers, told CNSNews.com. “He actually said they were sent to Tripoli. Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria.
