| At the Oxford Union the other day, I was comprehensively outperformed by this man: Dr Cornel West. If you’ve heard him live, you’ll know that he speaks in the manner of a charismatic preacher, and that the timbre of his voice captivates almost any audience. The motion was This House would occupy Wall Street. He won. For a while, I sat there in the manner of Harold Abrahams after he loses to Eric Liddell in Chariots of Fire. But then, like Abrahams, I picked myself up and started trying to improve my performance.

The "lefties" are NOT on the side of the "masses" (of ordinary people). Rather they are on their own side. They are the "Ones" that they have been waiting for. They use the mass of the people to wreck the existing order and try to rule the shambles that results. The Bolshevik revolution comes to mind. After murdering their way to power and subverting the actions of others Lenin, Trotsky and the other "marxists" consolidated their power by murdering the "Old Bolsheviks" who had given them Russia. The lie that they are "for" anyone but themselves and their absolute power must be attacked head on. No matter how "nice" they seem in private, remember that they believe they have a "right" to murder those who stand between them and absolute power. The rest of us have been too "nice" to these wreckers.

Hard to believe that anyone with an IQ above room temperature would be impressed with "Dr" Cornel West -- a posturing buffoon, if there ever was one.
But cancel that ... we´re talking about the hoity-toity Oxford Union here. The creme-de-la-creme of British ivory tower elites. So, not so surprising they would fall for such a sorry joke as Professor West.
Hannan himself has a vocal "timbre" and cadence that is to be envied. Perhaps, as the late Christopher Hitchens admitted, his suave English accent enhances his appeal to American audiences; but it doesn´t work so well on the other side of the pond.

A 91-year-old WWII veteran fighting to prevent his daughter from evicting him from his Ohio home has raised more than $138,000 from online donors to buy back his home, easily surpassing his goal. Latest - 10.33 (04.33) This from the New York Times: When the tornado sirens went off around 2.15pm, the staff of the AgapeLand Learning Centre, a day care facility, moved 15 children into two bathrooms, draping them with a protective covering and singing songs with them to keep them calm. As the wind ripped off the roof of one of the bathrooms, they all sang "You Are My Sunshine" to remain calm. WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. But he insisted McDonough and the other White House officials purposely kept Obama out of the loop.McDonough “rightly chose not to take action” to inform Obama, Carney told reporters at the daily White House briefing.

The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor 3rd. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight committee Wednesday.

Stuart Varney said this morning on "Varney & Co." that one of his producers was given a questionnaire with some surprisingly intrusive questions on it when he switched doctors. One of the questions was whether he/she was concerned about unsecured weapons in the home. Another asked whether he/she was "in a relationship in which you have been physically hurt or are you afraid of your partner?" Judge Andrew Napolitano explained that the question about guns comes out of a post-Sandy Hook executive order by President Obama, but it will be required under Obamacare. Varney expressed amazement
