| Fort Worth — A rush for limited-edition tennis shoes sparked a near riot Friday morning at Hulen Mall. Sgt. Pedro Criado, a Fort Worth police spokesman, said a mall security officer and an off-duty Fort Worth police officer working security at the mall used mace during the incident after the crowd pushed through barricades and security guards, knocking down one off-duty police officer and pressing against the mall´s glass doors.(Snip) The crowd, estimated to be as large as 350 to 400 people, had apparently flocked to the mall to purchase retro Air Jordan sneakers, a re-release

It´s high time we enacted safe and sane restrictions on the sales of shoes and to license and register these dangerous feet, which can be set off at a moment´s notice.

Fun fact for the day: Hulen Mall, while it was under construction in the mid-70´s, was the site of almost all of the indoor scenes in "Logan´s Run". The closing scene, where they come out of the water, was filmed at the Water Gardens in downtown Fort Worth.
Hmm, that movie depicted a society gone mad, made up exclusively of people under the age of 30. Maybe it isn´t just the Mayans who foretold the future!

Trenton — As Congress debates an overhaul to the federal immigration system, New Jersey lawmakers again took up controversial legislation today that would allow students living in the country illegally to pay in-state tuition at the state’s public colleges. The bill, dubbed the “Tuition Equality Act,” was approved by the state Assembly Budget Committee after a lengthy hearing in Trenton. The crowd in the chamber, which included immigrant students who have been pushing for the change for years, cheered as the committee moved the bill. The legislation will now go to the full Assembly for a vote.

Passengers on NJ Transit’s No. 113 Express bus were taken on a ride from hell during Thursday’s morning rush when a lost driver took a really scenic route to New York, leaving commuters nearly two hours late for work. The express from Dunellen to the Port Authority Bus Terminal became a local—and then some.
