NRA Calls for Armed School
Guards, Scoffs at Gun Laws

ABC News, by Colleen Curry & Sarah Parnass

Original Article

The National Rifle Association stood its ground today in arguing that the answer to gun violence in schools is an armed security force that can protect students, while blaming the media and violent entertainment and video games for recent deadly shootings. "The only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun," NRA executive vice president Wayne LaPierre said in presenting the NRA´s first comments about the Connecticut school shooting since it occurred a week ago today. LaPierre offered no olive branch to gun-control advocates who have called for tougher laws

I think Mark Levin should give a press conference on this. He would explain to the liberal dunces that we have a Bill of Rights, not a Bill of Needs, and then tell them to stop attacking our liberties.

#3, I totally disagree. Mr. LaPierre´s remarks were reasonable and appropriate, as opposed to the hysterical rants of those who believe that law-abiding, rational people should not be entrusted to own guns.

#3: hospitals and sporting events typically do have an armed presence.

I think it´s clear the NRA is saying that the children were made defenseless by gun laws. Which is relevant to the discussion. Just because the control community doesn´t want to have a discussion doesn´t mean that discussion doesn´t need to be had.

Talking about a mentally ill man killing his mother and stealing her guns doesn´t get us any further down the road to stopping the violence. It does open a discussion about the lack of options families of the mentally ill have when trying to care for them.

I agree with the NRA. Their issue is to protect the right to own a gun. You want better mental health laws, go after the ACLU...it is that group that keeps these crazies on the street. I think you are the one who missed the boat on this one #7.

Any laws passed will make it harder for the law abiding to acquire guns, not the crazies. If the Principal had been armed and trained she and many students would still be alive. Would the perp have even tried?

So, No. 3 I take it that despite the fact that there are presently more than 22,000 gun laws in America, none of which stopped this tragedy yo think that a ONE MORE will do so.

Passing anything affecting the tools the criminal used will have zero effect. You have to affect the person committing the act, not the tool that he STEALS with which to do it.

So NOTHING will change. But you will FEEL better.

That ought to help the kids.

I saw this on cspan last night when the mikes would permit. A bunch of gun haters were sprinkled through the audience and began screeching and hollering against Wayne. I have no idea why they did not have police come and arrest them. Actually, I am thinking of some worse stuff that should have been done to them.

ABC news giving publicity to mentally ill people seems to be a major part of the problem.

And I don´t just mean Adam Lanza.

I went to the site to find out the substance of the NRA´s statement, and the entire video was of the CodePink protester. Mental illness on display again!

Way to go, ABC. You´ve shown your colors.

It´s not helpful, imo, to only address one aspect of this. Curbing gun rights and nothing else won´t come close to solving this. Lunatics need to be involuntarily committed. They are a danger to the rest of us! Hollywood needs to change and the glorification of violence in general needs to change. The media are also a big player here -

When all of these are placed on the table THEN it will be resonable to talk about gun control.

There are a lot of mentally ill people out there, but only a fraction of them are dangerous to themselves or others. In this country mentally ill people can vote and most of them vote for the liberal Democrats because of their support for expansive social programs and causes. The liberal Democrats know all that and that is why you will never hear a liberal Democrat politician directly blame a mentally ill person for any crime that he or she commits, no matter how heinous. The liberal Democrats consider the mentally ill to have a disability, and that they are in need of help, that of course only liberal Democrat governance can give them. That´s why the liberal Democrats will always cast off the blame on a gun, on the Republicans, or on the NRA anytime a mentally ill person commits mass murder.

#3, a lot of that is covered by concealed carry.

You know, the law that in Oregon stopped the mall shooter from killing many more people than he did. A guy with concealed carry stopped him. But the media doesn´t want you to know that.

I wonder what the drunk driving limit was for the Cowboy that had a DUI manslaughter and was driving without a license also which is illegal. Doesn´t this prove that lowering the limit doesn´t do that much good in the real world but MADD keeps pushing for lower limits?

Why did they have to set up an uninsured motorists fund unless there were tons of people driving without insurance? The point is there´s people who just don´t give a damn about laws.Getting rid of the death penalty in a lot of places was a bad idea also.

Just when I think I am going to sit these threads out...
I understand #3´s frequent posts. I really do. I also agree that the mentally ill should not have guns. The problem is, what do we do when they do get them? The only realistic answer is to respond with guns of our own.
The NRA´s answer makes more sense than anything I have seen yet. My small backwoods community is loaded with retired and ex military and police, as well as concealed carry permit holders. I bet if the schools asked, they would get plenty of volunteers to hang around and chat with the lunch ladies and secretaries for a few hours a week. I would certainly be willing to volunteer.
The first thing they should do is take down those stupid gun free zone signs.

i just saw where the 49er´s kicker got a death threat on twitter. That´s how bad its getting with these nuts.If they want to crack down on something,it should be death threats on the internet.

I think Ben Franklin summed it up pretty well when he said: "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." The second amendment is not about hunting and in times like this I´m sticking to my guns and religion!

No number of guns in the hands of individuals will cure the hatred in the human heart that impels us to violence against one another. And no combination of laws and ´reeducation´ will succeed at that, either.

Only God has the power to transform our hearts like that, and only divine mercy can save us from ourselves and each other.

Any strategy that doesn´t begin with prayer and heavily emphasize prayer throughout the process is doomed to fail.

#3, WE don´t deserve ´whatever´ liberals may pass. NY state being the liberal kingdom it is will DO something. The problem is all they will DO is harass legal gun owners in this state. They won´t do anything to go after the criminals and insane criminals in this state, that´s harder to do. If you knew what a citizen has to do to own a handgun in this state, it would address every concern you have about insane people arming up, and then some. The problem with wishing for some ´action´ to control high capacity, semi, whatever, firearms is NY´s gun death record vs Vermont´s which takes the opposite approach to gun ´control.´ Also, legal, concealed carry permit holders in NY do not commit crime. The numbers are statistically irrelevant.

Vice President Joe Biden really did get ahead of President Barack Obama on accepting gay marriage in 2012 — and the White House really wasn’t happy about it, despite the two leaders’ many attempts to claim otherwise. That’s the story laid out in Jo Becker’s new book, “Forcing the Spring,” which documents the past few years of successful efforts to expand the legalization of gay marriage, according to an advance copy obtained by POLITICO. Speculation that Biden’s comments on “Meet the Press” in May 2012 were meant as a trial balloon, Becker writes, came from people “not privy to the

In an open letter to President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry, Carter and the nine other Nobel Peace Prize winners bluntly warned the leaders: “Your decision on the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline will define your climate legacy.” The missive, published as an advertisement in Politico, represents the first time Carter has taken a position on the $5.4 billion project and makes him the first former president to come

President Obama said Wednesday that Russia realizes the U.S. military is “significantly superior” to its own and does not want war with the United States. Asked in an interview with CBS News about a Russian fighter buzzing a U.S. Navy ship in the Black Sea on Saturday, Obama said, “They’re not interested in any kind of military confrontation with us, understanding that our conventional forces are significantly superior to the Russians.” Obama accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of being behind uprisings in Ukraine in which government buildings have been taken over. The Bureau of Land Management has been charging him grazing fees since the early 1990s, which he has refused to pay. Further, BLM has issued orders limiting the area on which Bundy’s cows can

Casual marijuana use may come with some not-so-casual side effects. For the first time ever, researchers at Northwestern University have analyzed the relationship between casual use of marijuana and brain changes – and found that young adults who used cannabis just once or twice a week showed significant abnormalities in two important brain structures. The study’s findings, to be published Wednesday in the Journal of Neuroscience, are similar to those of past research linking chronic, long-term marijuana use with mental illness and changes in brain development. Dr. Hans Breiter, co-senior study author, said he was inspired to look at the effects of casual

People love that Scottish brogue so much, they don’t mind that he has it when he plays Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez, an immortal Spaniard in Highlander.
