Boehners trouble started when he stripped the TPers of their committees. Why? Per Obama´s request... or at the behest of progressive GOPers?

Obama is going to spend what he wants on what he wants. This whole Fiscal Cliff exercise was designed to make the GOP look like idiot fall guys.

The republicans agreed to this horible deal to begin with. 90% ofthe losers in this deal will be working pwople.The moocher class has nothing to lose.There´s nothing for the left to have to save by making a deal.They´re social spending will go on as usual.

I think the GOP banked on winning the WH and this bad deal could be averted. Now that Obama stole the election,there´s few options for them.

There was no point in passing plan B because Obama wasn´t giving anything in return.Obama wants the cliff anyway.

I have no idea what #4 just said although I think his username may pretty well describe where he is coming from. I agree with the other posts. If the Republican Party is going to be a viable alternative to Obama´s big-government, dictatorial ambitions, it needs to put a true conservative into the speaker´s position. Boehner has been the great accommodator and, as such, has been nothing but a foil for Obama and the Democrats.

BTW, I have read that the House Speaker does not have to be elected. Rather, it is a "hire" position. Many have said that Mark Levin would be a great Speaker.

In the Republican Caucus, the Speaker does not have to be a sitting Member. That is why Louie Gohmert of Texas suggested Newt Gingrich a few weeks ago. The Speaker needs to be a Leader/Communicator in today´s world. Boehner is lacking as a leader and inept as a communicator. Additionally, when dealing with Chicago tactics, he or she needs to be pugnacious.

Okay, so we get a "true Conservative" and offer up a stellar plan. Will Harry Reid or Barack Obama or any of the Democrats accept it?

I know what the answer is. Why are the Republicans and John Boehner being blamed? Oh, that´s right. Our side always blames their own.

But Karl Rove said it was a good plan.

Who said the Tea Parties were dead? This is a result of the Tea Parties putting real conservatives in the House. No, they are not a majority but there are enough now to have real influence at least in the House. And Thank Goodness for that for them or we would have been screwed big time.

Some pundits and bloggers gave Boehner some excellent advice during this. Boehner should have broadcast these negotiations on CSpan, and not done them in secrecy. It was very effective during the Obamacare ram through. Obama looked like the petulant arse he is, and Paul Ryan and others offered serious proposals.

Why Boehner played this on Obama´s turf I´ll never understand. The next Speaker needs to be able to articulate conservatism, and be on tv 24-7. Remember how Pelosi talked down the economy in 2006?

The House controls all spending. The Senate and the President accepts the House bill, modifies the House bill and asks the House to OK the changes, or they ignore the House bill and the federal government shuts down.

I see no downside to this, including the shut-down. The House has all the power, unless they give up that power to the ridiculous demands of the democrats.

Boehner should resign the speakership.

American Majority Action is leading the effort to get 16 GOP congressmen to abstain from voting for Boehner in January. That means Boehner would be out, and an alternative would have to be found. It does not mean that Pelosi would become Speaker (unless those 16 vote for her).

Please write your Representative, especially if they are new and unco-opted by the RINO elite, and ask them to withhold their vote for Boehner when the next session begins.

Boehner has to go. He has never been a leader.
