Trouble for Boehner´s Speakership?
National Journal, by Billy House

Original Article

Posted By:LittleHoodedMonk, 12/21/2012 12:52:42 AM

John Boehner’s speakership is suddenly “on the ropes,” says at least one outside conservative group after Thursday night’s head-spinning developments that saw the Republican leader scrap a vote on his own plan to avert the year-end “fiscal cliff” because not enough members of his party would support it. “Speaker Boehner said today´s bill would pass. His credibility as a leader has evaporated,” declared Ron Meyer a spokesman for American Majority Action, a Virginia-based group, which has trained thousands of conservative activists and says it predates the tea party movement.

Comments:
I would hope so, The stupid and wasteful discussions with 0bama are only putting the off our enviable slide over the "fiscal cliff." Let the 0bamaNation own this debacle. And, in January, who cares what he does. In four years, hopefully we will have installed enough Tea Party conservatives to try to win back the presidency and Congress.

No, he had his chance and he blew it. Time to replace him with a "TRUE" Conservative. If the Republicans bring him back as Speaker, I will drive to my County Seat and remove my name from the rolls as a "Republican."

Boehners trouble started when he stripped the TPers of their committees. Why? Per Obama´s request... or at the behest of progressive GOPers?

Obama is going to spend what he wants on what he wants. This whole Fiscal Cliff exercise was designed to make the GOP look like idiot fall guys.

We have no congress for the next 4 years... Obama will ignore the dems as well.

The republicans agreed to this horible deal to begin with. 90% ofthe losers in this deal will be working pwople. The moocher class has nothing to lose. There´s nothing for the left to have to save by making a deal. They´re social spending will go on as usual.

I think the GOP banked on winning the WH and this bad deal could be averted. Now that Obama stole the election, there´s few options for them.

There was no point in passing plan B because Obama wasn´t giving anything in return.Obama wants the cliff anyway.

Psst. Hey, those committee chairs that have got ya´lls udders chaffed? Yeah, there ain´t gonna be no committee chairs for nobody if the virginal spitwad boys take over the GOP. They´ve already managed to hand Dear Leader a big victory tonight.

I have no idea what #4 just said although I think his username may pretty well describe where he is coming from. I agree with the other posts. If the Republican Party is going to be a viable alternative to Obama´s big-government, dictatorial ambitions, it needs to put a true conservative into the speaker´s position. Boehner has been the great accommodator and, as such, has been nothing but a foil for Obama and the Democrats.

Allen West for speaker.

#6, Allen West lost his election, and will be leaving Congress at the end his term.

Allen West has to be a congressman in order to be elected Speaker.

FTA: Rep. Steven LaTourette, R-Ohio, who is close to Boehner, said the idea that this episode has hurt Boehner’s speakership is, “like saying the superintendent of an insane asylum should be discharged because he couldn’t control the crazy people. I mean that’s nuts.” So does this Ohio Republican think he is endearing Boehner to the conservatives by comparing them to lunatics? Wow. They really ARE out of touch. Bye Bye Buckeye Boehner.

Can´t believe that he took a vote on the ´Plan B" and it didn´t pass (not that I would have voted for it).

The guy needs to go.

BTW, I have read that the House Speaker does not have to be elected. Rather, it is a "hire" position. Many have said that Mark Levin would be a great Speaker.

#10, the article itself says:

The group sought to convince enough of them to vote for someone else in the upcoming speaker’s election on Jan. 3 that will kick off the new 113th congressional session. (Emphasis mine)

DOWN with Boehner. We the People cannot retake our government until we CAST OUT the colluding, traitorous DEMONS who have been playing golf together on Americans’ taxes and meeting secretly where we cannot know what they plot against us.

In the Republican Caucus, the Speaker does not have to be a sitting Member. That is why Louie Gohmert of Texas suggested Newt Gingrich a few weeks ago. The Speaker needs to be a Leader/Communicator in today´s world. Boehner is lacking as a leader and inept as a communicator. Additionally, when dealing with Chicago tactics, he or she needs to be pugnacious.

Okay, so we get a "true Conservative" and offer up a stellar plan. Will Harry Reid or Barack Obama or any of the Democrats accept it?

I know what the answer is. Why are the Republicans and John Boehner being blamed? Oh, that´s right. Our side always blames their own.

Who said the Tea Parties were dead? This is a result of the Tea Parties putting real conservatives in the House. No, they are not a majority but there are enough now to have real influence at least in the House. And Thank Goodness for that for them or we would have been screwed big time.

Reply 16 - Posted by: Fiesta del sol, 12/21/2012 6:06:15 AM     (No. 9077161)

Some pundits and bloggers gave Boehner some excellent advice during this. Boehner should have broadcast these negotiations on CSpan, and not done them in secrecy. It was very effective during the Obamacare ram through. Obama looked like the petulant arse he is, and Paul Ryan and others offered serious proposals.

Why Boehner played this on Obama´s turf I´ll never understand. The next Speaker needs to be able to articulate conservatism, and be on tv 24-7. Remember how Pelosi talked down the economy in 2006?

Reply 17 - Posted by: mws50, 12/21/2012 6:29:23 AM     (No. 9077175)

The House controls all spending. The Senate and the President accepts the House bill, modifies the House bill and asks the House to OK the changes, or they ignore the House bill and the federal government shuts down.

I see no downside to this, including the shut-down. The House has all the power, unless they give up that power to the ridiculous demands of the democrats.

American Majority Action is leading the effort to get 16 GOP congressmen to abstain from voting for Boehner in January. That means Boehner would be out, and an alternative would have to be found. It does not mean that Pelosi would become Speaker (unless those 16 vote for her).

Please write your Representative, especially if they are new and unco-opted by the RINO elite, and ask them to withhold their vote for Boehner when the next session begins.

Boehner has to go. He has never been a leader.

Spanish engineers, who already spent some $680 million on designing the new generation S-80 class submarine, say it is a major “technical innovation.” There is just one problem the calculations show – if submerged into water, it may never come up again. The Spanish media has been furiously discussing the errors made by the state-owned Navantia construction company, which has spent about a third of the huge $2.2 billion budget only to produce an ‘overweight’ submarine that is not able to float. Spain’s Ministry of Defense has confirmed that Navantia detected “deviations”

He was arrested for aggravated battery this month, according to police records, after getting into a fight with a man in a parking lot. When the FBI agent and others arrived at his apartment early Wednesday, the law enforcement officials said Todashev initially was cooperative. Jerusalem - Israel´s air force chief says his troops need to be ready to act quickly in case of an attack from Syria. The remarks by Maj. Gen. Amir Eshel Wednesday echo statements by Israel´s military chief of staff a day earlier. Eshel warned escalation could lead to a "surprise war." He said Russian S-300 air defense systems are "on their way" to Syria, though Israel asked Russia not to supply them. Israel is concerned the Syrian civil war could spill across its border. The man shot dead by an FBI agent in Orlando, Florida early today was "about to sign a statement" admitting to a role, along with Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev, in an unsolved triple murder in Massachusetts in 2011, two people with direct knowledge of the case told ABC News. Ibragim Todashev "just went crazy," and pulled a knife during his interview with the FBI, said state and federal law enforcement officials briefed on the latest strange twist in the investigation of the Boston Marathon bombing. One official said an FBI agent was stabbed several times,

An 18-year-old Florida student’s senior year has become a nightmare — all because she was in a same-sex relationship with a 15-year-old, her family says. Kaitlyn Hunt was arrested Feb. 16 for having a physical relationship with a younger classmate, who was her girlfriend at the time, mom Kelley Hunt Smith wrote on Facebook. Under Florida law, Hunt could see up to 15 years in prison and must register as a sex offender. A plea deal, however, remains on the table that would give Hunt two years´ house arrest and one year of probation, her family said. “Does my daughter deserve to lose her life for

As the impasse over Tehran’s nuclear program worsens, those most likely to be directly affected by an Iranian bomb are showing greater alarm. While the media fixates on Israel and its possible reaction, other regional players have no less at stake. Despite Riyadh’s long-held advocacy of making the Middle East a zone free of weapons of mass destruction, there has been much speculation in the past few years about the possibility of its acquiring, or developing, nuclear weapons should Tehran obtain the bomb. In the words of Saudi King Abdullah: “If Iran developed nuclear weapons (...) everyone in the

The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”
