Turn on virtually any talk show heard or viewed in the mainstream media this past week and it’s clear that most of the chattering classes are convinced that the Newtown massacre marks a turning point in the history of American culture. According to this narrative, the country’s understandable shock and horror over the slaughter of innocents at the Sandy Hook Elementary School is the equivalent of Pearl Harbor or 9/11 in that it has fundamentally altered the political correlation of forces that has prevented gun control. More to the point, they believe this sea change is so

I seriously doubt that this is different. I doubt that the either the House or Senate will resurrect the dead, failed, foolish, ineffective ´ban-on-scary-looking-rifles´.

The reports of all past blue ribbon commissions that I can think of were ignored in their entirety.

Biden is such a buffoon and he is the one to bring gravitas to this issue? Ridicule, more likely.

I really think that the only solution that might have any significant impact is to ease the limits on involuntary committment of lunatics.

Every able body and household should be required to have a firearm...exceptions to be noted...

Kneejerk liberals are always going to do what they´re going to do,that is have the government step in on everything. They were claiming the other day that there´s been a 5% drop in childhood obesity already giving MO´s program the credit. Then they had to admit most of it was upper income white kids who were shedding the pounds, not the poverty stricken overweight kids.

Then you hear 2012 was the warmest year on record, giving the changers even more fodder for their lunacy.Guess they haven´t been to the sunny skies of Russia lately.

Oncethe emotional aspect of this school shooting calms down, people with sense know the problem isn´t gunsbut a more and more unhinged culture being fed by uncivilized left wingers..

If a republican made a death threat it would make front page news, when a lefty does it,it just shows their passion for the issue.

Nobody´s making a big deal out of a 49% drop in the prosecution of gun crimes since Obama took office because they mostly affect his voting base.

Iran is plotting mass murder.

Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons.

Iran has stated the goal of exterminating every Israeli Jew, and wiping the state of Israel off the map.

Barack Obama won´t take action against Iran.

Barack Obama is willing to negotiate, unconditionally, with Mahmoud Ahmadinijad.

Barack Obama says we MUST take action NOW against the National Rifle Association and the Second Amendment....

The NRA has a choice. It can continue to draw a line in the sand and look foolish, or it can acknowledge what reasonable people already know: not every single person in the country needs to have easy access to firearms. Small children do not need easy access. People with serious mental illness who are experiencing psychotic breaks do not need easy access.

Propose workable laws that can make it more difficult for those who do not need easy access to get their hands on weapons. Fight such attempts and yes, NRS, you will deserve to be demonized.

There are thousands and thousands of gun laws on the books in this country. What could possibly be added that could have prevented the Newtown Ct. tragedy? I am sure that the situation that existed has alerady been covered in one of the thousands of laws. His Mother was irresponsible in HER handling of her guns. She is at fault for this tragedy. If her guns had been properly secured, no tragedy. The son also should have been committed to an institution. I thank liberal democRATS for making sure that they are out walking the streets. I remember when Gov. Cuomo freed all of the state hospital patients saying that they should be mainstreamed. Thanks Mario.

#5,

The NRA isn´t trying to put weapons into the hands of toddlers or the mentally ill. Don´t know how any sane person could make such a contention.

Poster 36, do you have a source for your information, or is it just speculation?

It is possible that all of the guns (or other weapons) were securely locked in a gun safe. I´ve not not either way from the police investigators, have you heard there was no gun safe in the home?

It is possible that Adam, for some unknown reason, or the rumored reason that his mother was seeking to move him from his familiar basement, and he attacked and overpowered her, obtained the gun safe key retrieved the "secured" guns, then went back to her bedroom and shot her multiple times. I haven´t heard an autopsy report on Mrs. Lanza (I don´t expect to, it shouldn´t be public) to know if she had other injuries in addition to the gun shot wounds.

To expound upon poster #7´s comments, that argument is a straw man, a keynote indicator of Duh Wun´s participation. He knows he doesn´t hold popular political positions, so he states something that no serious person would ever support, then proceeds to argue against what no one wants. It´s been a win-win for him, demonize the opposition and appear to be "wise" and "presidential."

RALEIGH, N.C. — Backed by throngs of chanting supporters, dozens of liberal demonstrators are subjecting themselves to arrest each Monday at the state legislature here to protest a flurry of bills that could transform North Carolina into a model of conservative governance. The state’s hard turn to the right comes less than five years after people took to the streets here to celebrate the 2008 victory of Barack Obama, the first Democratic presidential candidate to capture the state since Jimmy Carter in 1976. The win prompted Obama’s supporters to crow about the growing influence of progressive

BEIRUT — The leader of the Lebanese Shiite militant group Hezbollah on Saturday defiantly defended sending his fighters to support President Bashar al-Assad’s army in neighboring Syria and proclaimed that they would be victorious. Hasan Nasrallah’s televised address provided the clearest public acknowledgment to date that his men are fighting alongside Assad’s troops and will continue to do so. As he spoke, Hezbollah and government forces were escalating an assault on the strategically important Syrian town of Qusair. A staunch ally of Iran as well as Assad, Hezbollah has deepened its involvement in Syria’s two-year-old civil war in recent weeks

UPDATE: Perry responds to SB 346 veto: “Freedom of association and freedom of speech are two of our most important rights enshrined in the Constitution. My fear is that SB 346 would have a chilling effect on both of those rights in our democratic political process. While regulation is necessary in the administration of Texas political finance laws, no regulation is tolerable that puts anyone’s participation at risk or that can be used by any government, organization or individual to intimidate those who choose to participate in our process through financial means. At a time when our federal government

The latest reporting in the matter of Fox News Channel’s James Rosen indicates the Obama administration fought to keep the search warrant for Rosen’s private email account secret, arguing that the government might need to monitor the account for a lengthy period of time. Thank you, Ryan Lizza. And one more thing. Despite Eric Holder’s his protestations of ignorance regarding the Rosen matter, NBC reports that Holder himself authorized the warrant application. Hmmm. Does that mean he might not have been entirely forthcoming about the matter in his testimony

WASHINGTON — Haynes Johnson, a pioneering Washington journalist who won a Pulitzer Prize for his coverage of the civil rights movement and migrated from newspapers to television, books and teaching, died Friday. He was 81. The Washington Post reported he died at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Md. In a statement to the Post newsroom, Managing Editor Kevin Merida said Johnson died of a heart attack. Johnson was awarded a Pulitzer in 1966 for national reporting on the civil rights struggle in Selma, Ala., while with The Evening Star in Washington. He spent

The FBI has arrested a San Antonio man on charges he lied to get into the United States and tried to get a sensitive Defense Department position. Wissam Allouche, 44, appeared for an initial hearing Friday afternoon, and shook his head when U.S. Magistrate Judge Henry Bemporad read the charges leveled in a federal indictment. The judge ordered him held pending a bail hearing and his arraignment Tuesday. “He allegedly tried to cover up his affiliation with Hezbollah,” said special agent Erik Vasys, spokesman for the FBI in San Antonio. “It is believed

The press must have
the ability to ask questions

A FREE press in a democracy demands a delicate balance. The First Amendment means the media must have the right to inquire without hindrance. The government has a legitimate interest in keeping some national security information secret. When these come into conflict, the balance often has been struck this way: The media are free to pursue secrets, but it is up to those in government to keep them. When the media come into possession of information that, if disclosed, could be damaging, the government can plead the case for secrecy — and the media generally are open to persuasion.

Washington rumor has it that Obama wants to be U.N. Secretary General. There are several reasons that make that likely, and if it´s true, it throws new light on a lot of Obama´s oddities -- including his Royalty Bows, his Apology Tours, his Muslim Sellout, and the Benghazi Cover-Up. But first -- why would Obama be planning to become the chief of the U.N. before he has even finished his second term?

On Wednesday, Drummer Lee Rigby of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, a man who had served Queen and country honorably in the hell of Helmand Province in Afghanistan, emerged from his barracks on Wellington Street, named after the Duke thereof, in southeast London. Minutes later, he was hacked to death in broad daylight and in full view of onlookers by two men with machetes who crowed "Allahu Akbar!" as they dumped his carcass in the middle of the street like so much roadkill. As grotesque as this act of savagery was, the aftermath was even more unsettling

MARK LEVIN: So why didn´t Chairman Issa hold an investigative hearing a year ago? Why didn´t Chairman Camp, all Republicans, hold an investigative hearing a year ago, and all the other tripping over themselves right now? I´ll tell you why. Because the establishment Republicans, the RINO Republicans, despise the Tea Party. They despise the conservative movement. We exist to be managed, to be shuttled to the polling place, to vote for their candidates. The Karl Roves of the world, and all the rest of them. They fight us in the primaries, they fight us at the grassroots.

WASHINGTON —In a dramatic departure from existing White House procedures, President Obama requested today that his staff start cc’ing him on stuff. “Look, I know a lot of you think I’m really busy and you don’t want to bother me,” the President reportedly told his staff in an Oval Office meeting. “But cc me anyway. It’s good for me to keep up on what’s going on around here.” “It’s not good when I turn on the news and they’re talking about something at the White House and I’m like, whoa, when did that happen?”

Abuse Of Power: Any scandal investigation that expects a "Eureka!" moment, a White House e-mail, or Oval Office smoking gun will be misguided. In fact, the dots are already connected directly to the president. Barack Obama is not foolish enough to have a tape recording system hidden in his desk. And his administration staff are not careless enough to send one another incriminating e-mails. If the president was behind the IRS unlawfully harassing conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status, we can be sure the communications were all sotto voce and in persona, like any good Chicago political operator.

A Washington state Democrat is accusing Republicans of “throwing American infrastructure … under the bus” after a bridge collapse there this week. The portion of Interstate 5 in Washington that runs over the Skagit River collapsed on Thursday after a truck hit an overhead support structure, but Rep. Jim McDermott (D-Wash.) cited the incident in an interview as proof Republicans were blocking infrastructure investment to hurt President Obama politically. “Well, they have clearly spent the whole last five years trying to tear the president down, but they have done it by throwing the American infrastructure and
