So Ada´s mother was well taken care of in the divorce agreement, 289,000 dollars a year in alimony, health care, a very expensive house. Sweet deal.
She also, according to several different reports, liked to do the pub crawl, was a regular in several local watering holes.

There is a picture emerging in my mind of a pretty bad situation in that home, especially when you throw in the guns.

At 20, the decision was not his mothers to make. The recruiters would have laughed and politely made that decision when they met him at the door. One does not just pop in and sign up. Acceptance can take months, including a lengthy background check and considerably physical preparation. People who think any moron can be accepted into the Marines are very mis-informed. There is a reason it´s called the few and the proud.

I doubt that he would have passed the physical or mental evaluation for ANY Service. Let alone the basic background check considering his "educational background". The only reason he might not have known that fact is the his Mother didn´t want him to enlist in the military and I doubt he even contacted a recruiter.

It isn´t unusual for someone with Asperger to desire a typical course of action - college or the military as the next step after high school. Some can succeed in such endeavors, but most do not. Sounds like Mom sized up the situation pretty well and as gently as she could told him that he wasn´t going to get into the military.

That´s sweet. Did the Marines want to join him?

I think that those of you who are completely negating him joining the Marines are overlooking the single minded focus some sufferer´s from Asperger´s Syndrome can have. If instead of discouraging him from joining, his mother had presented it as a challenge that would be difficult for him to overcome, the desire to join MAY have caused him to compensate for his problems (mental and physical) in such a manner as to make him a fit recruit. If he had accomplished such a change, the discipline of being in the military would likely have fixed the rest of his problems. The military is not my first choice for fixing people who have discipline problems (which was at least part of his problem), but it is often very effective at doing so.

Seems like Hillary used this explanation one time way back when, trying to change the subject from one or another of her frequent missteps. I guess just saying you want to be a Marine makes you honorable in some circles.

Wannabees, let it be known, the Title of Marine CANNOT be bought, sold, nor traded, it must be EARNED by 12 weeks at a USMC Recruit Depot.

I wouldn´t call say she was "raising him as a single mother" if they divorced in 2009. He would have been 17. That´s one year away from majority. He was ´raised´ in a 2-parent household.

She wasn´t raising him anymore, she was caretaking for a young adult with mental issues.

This is more speculation and gossip by the media. Interviews with the plumber, yard man and so-called friends. Will they never leave these people alone.

I don´t think the media understands that this article is newsworthy solely because of what it shows us about the media:
1. They have no idea what a fact is.
2. They are so far removed from military service they think any psycho can walk in and join.

Re #6, the monetary agreement had to do with Nancy Lanza´s agreement to take care of Adam Lanza for the rest of his life, if need be. It was to pay for their living expenses, and his medical and educational expenses. Whatever he needed.

Family friends would strongly disagree with #6´s evaluation. She was known to be a kind woman, a good and caring mother. Soft-spoken.

Her "pub crawl" involved "My Place", a local restaurant (described by the media as a "sports bar") where she met her friends and often took Adam to dinner. Here it is. Just see how decadent it is...

One comment was that it had the "best food in town". Remember that Newtown is a very small town. We have a similar place in our town where sports fans hang out, families dine with elders and kids, soccer teams go after games, etc., etc., etc. Like I said, decadent.

Her "sweet deal" included a life of devotion to a child who was born damaged. I´m waiting to hear someone waffle on abortion. How would you have done with such a child? How would you have dealt with him? Remember that he father split long before the 2008 divorce filing. Some neighbors don´t recall his ever living in the house, which Nancy Lanza and the boys moved into 17 years ago.

In 1999, exactly the same thing, that he wanted to be a Marine and was rejected, was reported about Eric Harris.

His supposedly wanting to join the Marines was probably because of the sterling reputation of the Marine Corps. However, I doubt he would have been accepted, or succeeded, in any military service. I have known fellows with only minor disabilities who were discharged during basic training.

I have read accounts that confirm what you say, #23. Mrs. Lanza apparently had the job of raising both sons alone for a long time. She may not have realized how very sick her son was--after all, he killed her, too.
