| WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama was launching a widespread effort to curb gun violence Wednesday in an urgent effort to build on the growing political consensus over tightening gun restrictions following last week´s massacre of children at a Connecticut school. (Snip) The president has vowed to use "whatever power this office holds" to safeguard the nation´s children after Friday´s shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. A gunman carrying an arsenal of ammunition and a high-powered, military-style rifle killed six adults and 20 children, all of them 6 and 7 years old.

Guns and gun violence are very different things. This only addresses the former.
AP´s style book again: ´urgent effort´...´growing political consensus´...instead of what it is: shameless exploitation of dead children.
I know it´s been said hundreds of times already but .223 is far from ´high-powered.´
Lefties can´t get over the ´military-style´ thing. If Jed Clampett´s shootin´ iron but is used in a murder who cares what it looks like?
Anything except the ongoing failure on the economy, eh?

Gun control laws will be as effective as drug control laws.

You are under no legal duty to obey an illegal order.

#1, I believe the US Army ised the .223 (5.62 mm)round in the M-16. The older M1 used a 30 caliber bullet. The 223 is most definitely a high powered round. When talking rifle rounds it is not diameter or weight that kills you, it is velocity and the 223 is a very high velocity round.
My question is where was the Bushmaster (thats a gun that costs well north of a grand by the way. All MSM stories state that it was the gun he used, but all the factual stories state he left it in the trunk of his car. Its hard to believe he would have been buzzed into the school toting a long gun.

The solution is obvious and eagerly sought by gun control zealots: declare the entire United States to be a gun free zone.
Problem solved.
Of course, it doesn´t always work 100%. Take Benghazi, for example. The American embassy was for all practical purposes a gun free zone. But they may have neglected to post the signs prominently or in the local language(s).

Re #5, the reports have been a mess. He took at least 4 weapons to the school. He took the Bushmaster in with him, and is said to have used it. Two handguns were found near his body. He left a shotgun in his car.

All shuck & jive.
Pure posturing.
More gun law will add to safety in the same way that more IRS laws will add to prosperity.
Libs are not reality based.

There is a much simpler and more efficient remedy.
1) Revoke the law that made all public schools become "Gun Free Zones" the actions of Adam Lanza and many others prove conclusively that criminals do not obey "Gun Free Zones" they look for the sign which says to their deranged mind Unarmed victims in this building!
2) Put up new signs, at eye level for adults, that state emphatically:
Three employees within this building are armed. You guess which.
There doesn´t necessarily need to be three or even one armed person in the building ...but there might.
The sign would be about as effective as the fake burglar alarm signs in some yards, criminals will move on to a less secure location.

If it´s that easy to just ban something why can´t they ban cocaine while they are at it ? That´s how it works, right ? Just pass a law ?

Michelle Obama certainly knows how to work a room! In this case, it was a kindergarten classroom at Savoy Elementary School in Washington D.C., where the patrons were, well, pint-size. The first lady paid a visit to the youngsters, brightening their day with some silly dance moves performed in unison and imparting an important message about hard work and perseverance.Awww. According to the Huffington Post, Obama encouraged the kiddos to "try new things and not be afraid to fail, because we have all failed," and referenced Kerry Washington (also in the audience),

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio will appeal a federal judge´s ruling that his agency systematically singled out Latinos in its trademark immigration patrols, marking the first finding by a court that the agency racially profiles people. Tim Casey, the lead attorney representing America´s self-proclaimed toughest sheriff in the case, said an appeal of the finding that the agency racially profiles people was planned in the next 30 days. The decision by U.S. District Judge Murray Snow in Phoenix backs up years of allegations from Arpaio´s critics who say his officers violate the constitutional rights of Latinos

WASHINGTON — Attorney General Eric Holder’s fingerprints are all over an FBI warrant that authorized snooping on Fox News reporter James Rosen, the Justice Department confirmed yesterday. The FBI warrant that sought Rosen’s private e-mails as part of a leak investigation and called him a possible “co-conspirator” in a crime was authorized “at the highest levels of the department, including discussions with the Attorney General,” according to the Justice Department. “The Department takes seriously the First Amendment right to freedom of the press,” the agency said in the statement, saying it took “great care” in deciding to

WASHINGTON— US President Barack Obama set out Thursday to redefine the US fight against global terrorism. But despite calling for a more targeted and not "boundless" theater of global operations, Obama left the specifics and timelines for action, by which his success or failure can be measured, out of his big speech. Here are some critical questions Obama did not raise or answer in the address at the National Defense University. Guantanamo Bay timeline-Obama renewed his call for the closure of the Guantanamo Bay camp for terror suspects in Cuba. But he did not provide

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

Anthony Weiner’s New York mayoral candidacy was only made more improbable today after he revealed that he visited a Houston psychiatric facility following his resignation from Congress in 2011. Haunted by scandal surrounding his sexually explicit online communications with women, the Democratic former congressman sought treatment for his compulsive behavior from mental health professionals at the Gabbard Center. According to its website, the facility provides “3-day outpatient psychiatric evaluation,” particularly to “professionals who are in personal or professional crises.” While Weiner did not disclose

MARK LEVIN: So why didn´t Chairman Issa hold an investigative hearing a year ago? Why didn´t Chairman Camp, all Republicans, hold an investigative hearing a year ago, and all the other tripping over themselves right now? I´ll tell you why. Because the establishment Republicans, the RINO Republicans, despise the Tea Party. They despise the conservative movement. We exist to be managed, to be shuttled to the polling place, to vote for their candidates. The Karl Roves of the world, and all the rest of them. They fight us in the primaries, they fight us at the grassroots.

Fox News chief Roger Ailes has sent a memo to his subordinates at the leading cable news network. He sent this memo to his staff today in connection with the federal investigation into an alleged leak to Fox News reporter James Rosen, a story that the Washington Post’s Ann E. WASHINGTON —In a dramatic departure from existing White House procedures, President Obama requested today that his staff start cc’ing him on stuff. “Look, I know a lot of you think I’m really busy and you don’t want to bother me,” the President reportedly told his staff in an Oval Office meeting. “But cc me anyway. It’s good for me to keep up on what’s going on around here.” “It’s not good when I turn on the news and they’re talking about something at the White House and I’m like, whoa, when did that happen?”
