Former House speaker Lujan dies
(UPDATED with statement
from Bill Richardson)

Ben Lujan, the speaker of New Mexico´s House of Representative and the father of U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Lujan, has died. A spokesman for the congressman, Andrew Stoddard, confirmed in a statement early Wednesday that the elder Lujan had succumbed to lung cancer late Tuesday night. The Santa Fe Democrat spent nearly 40 years in the chamber before he announced on the first day of the session this year that he would not seek re-election.

This corrupt demorat ran our House for way too many years. He was as corrupt as they come, a charter member of NM´s "good old boy" Congress, and the father of our Rep. in the national house, Ben Ray, a lapdog of Nancy Pelosi. I usually am not this callous, but I don´t miss this man nor would I miss his son. NM State politics are much better off without him.

I don´t have much respect from anyone who goes into politics and spends more than 2 terms in office.

After that, they become part of the problem!

I say we place these lifers on a sliding scale. You get full pay/benefits your first term. That decreased by 30 percent your second term. Your third term you lose 50 percent of your current pay/benefits and so on. Eventually, you are working for free.
When they whine, we remind them that they got into this game to "help people" and "make a difference". Now they can do it on their dime.
Who´s with me on this?

Anything past two terms in a single position is treason....so the headline should read "NM multi-decade Traitor dies"

This article was updated with a message from the current NM Gov Susana Martinez not the last slime ball loser.

There is a special place in hell for Mr Lujan (and Greasy Bill Richardson´s place of agony will be right next door)! Both have done their utmost to destroy this state. Both have raised political corruption to ultimate new highs! Now the destruction will continue be carried out by their prodigy voted in by the mindless D- students ushered in by their destruction of the eduction system in this state.

Am I bitter? You bet your arse I am!

Family members tell KOB that U.S. Marshals have located Lacey DeWent, the Albuquerque 14-year-old reported missing more than two weeks ago, in Arkansas. According to DeWent´s father, Marshals located DeWent with 26-year-old Robert Butler in Fort Smith, Ark. The family is on their way to the airport to be reunited with their daughter. Her mother, Jessica DeWent, says Lacey is doing OK and was not harmed. Daniel DeWent also said authorities took Butler into custody. DeWent and Butler met online and tried to form a relationship, but he was arrested for being in contact with her.

Is it still safe to use Windows XP?

After April 8, 2014, Microsoft will no longer support the Windows XP operating system. There will be no more security fixes, software updates or technical support, although Microsoft will still provide some anti-malware support for an unspecified amount of time. Computers that continue to run Windows XP will be at increased risk for malware infection after April 8, yet many businesses have critical XP-only applications. Others can´t afford to upgrade to new PCs. How much of a risk are they running?

The surge in the popularity of inexpensive but cutting-edge smartphones is more than just another marketplace success story. It is one with profound social implications, particularly among low-income Black and Hispanic consumers who have long been on the losing end of the digital divide. If there has been any recent development that has helped to bridge that divide in communities like my own here in Harlem, it has been the advent of low-priced smartphones. Indeed, studies have shown that Black and Hispanics access the Internet on a cellphone, tablets or other mobile handheld devices at demonstrably higher rates than whites.

US appeals court upholds

A federal appeals court on Thursday upheld Texas´ tough abortion restrictions that have led to the closure of nearly 20 clinics around the state, saying the new rules don´t jeopardize women´s health. A panel of judges at the New Orleans-based 5th Circuit Court of Appeals overturned a lower court judge who said the rules violate the U.S. Constitution and served no medical purpose. Despite the lower court´s ruling, the appeals court already had allowed some rules to go into effect while it considered the case. The latest decision means more regulations will begin later this year, as scheduled, and sets

Farmington police order ammunition

The Farmington Police Department now orders its ammunition about a year in advance after retail stocks nationally began running low due to greater demand. Trade officials say the shortages largely began in 2013 when gun owners began stockpiling bullets...(snip)The source of the fear that drove ammunition hoarding is President Barack Obama, said Erich Pratt, director of communications for Gun Owners of America, a firearms advocacy lobbying group. "You could give him the gun-salesman of the year award," he said.

Remember the California couple who found $10 million in gold coins on their property? They’re probably going to end up with NOTHING in the final analysis, as breaking news from San Francisco reveals that the source of the mystery gold has been discovered: A story that describes a gold heist from the San Francisco Mint at the turn of the century could explain the source of the gold coins worth $10 million that were found last month in California’s Mother Lode country. The published news item was discovered in the Haithi Trust Digital Library and was provided by Northern California

On the eve of the Netanyahu visit to Washington, President Obama gave a lengthy interview to Jeffrey Goldberg that shows a chief executive who has learned next to nothing about the world in his five years in office. First, kudos to Goldberg: he pressed Obama repeatedly, challenging vague formulations and seeking clarity. Goldberg pushed Obama hard, especially on Iran and Syria. Obama isn’t good off the cuff, especially when challenged; he is far better with a prepared speech. And what emerged is an awful portrait of the president and his conception of the world.

For Hillary Clinton, having her own baby grandchild to kiss on the campaign trail, could be one of the biggest boosts to her possible presidential election campaign. Although the former Secretary of State and First Lady has not said if she will run in 2016, the arrival of her first grandchild will soften her image, analysts have said. While Chelsea only revealed her pregnancy on Thursday, supporters of her mother have already started cooing over a possible baby in the White House. With the Clintons having a near-royal status in the U.S., the announcement of a new arrival due this fall has sent

That was quite a victory dance President Obama did Thursday while claiming Obamacare is “working” because eight million people have now supposedly signed up for the health care program. He even indulged in some less-than-subtle mockery of Republicans - and by extension the majority of Americans who have disapproved of Obamacare since before it became law. "The repeal debate is and should be over,” Obama said, taking a dig at Republicans who are “going through, you know, the stages of grief … anger and denial and all that stuff …” But a president who is viewed by most Americans as less

In a speech earlier this week, Lisa O. Monaco, President Barack Obama’s assistant for homeland security and counterterrorism, insisted that American parents must be vigilant because their “confrontational” children could be on the verge of becoming terrorists. Monaco’s full, prepared text is available here. She presented the speech, entitled “Countering Violent Extremism and the Power of Community,” at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government on April 15. Monaco began her remarks by eloquently describing the lives tragically lost last year during the Boston Marathon bombings. Interestingly, the Harvard grad failed to mention the religion or the motive of brothers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan

GREENSBORO, Ga. — Golf holes the size of pizzas. Soccer balls on the back nine. A mulligan on every hole. These are some of the measures — some would say gimmicks — that golf courses across the country have experimented with to stop people from quitting the game. Golf has always reveled in its standards and rich tradition. But increasingly a victim of its own image and hidebound ways, golf has lost five million players in the last decade, according to the National Golf Foundation, with 20 percent of the existing 25 million golfers apt to quit in the next few years. People under 35 have especially spurned the game, saying it takes too

Hi, everybody. For millions of Americans, this time of year holds great meaning. Earlier this week, we hosted a Passover Seder at the White House, and joined Jewish families around the world in their re-tellings of the story of the Exodus and the victory of faith over oppression. And this Sunday, Michelle, Malia, Sasha, and I will join our fellow Christians around the world in celebrating the Resurrection of Christ, the salvation he offered the world, and the hope that comes with the Easter season. These holy days have their roots in miracles that took place long ago. And yet, they still inspire us, guide us, and strengthen us today. They remind us of our

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Thursday that a family of dissident ranchers and their supporters in his home state of Nevada are ´domestic terrorists,´ citing this week´s standoff with the federal government´s Bureau of Land Management. Cliven Bundy has refused to pay grazing fees for land where his hundreds of cattle roam every day. The land is owned by the federal government, which says he owes more than $1 million. Bundy, however, insists that since his family has been using the land since the 1870s, Uncle Sam can´t collect the grazing fees. A tense standoff developed this week after

If the Rev. John DeBonville could preach a sermon to lift the souls of churchgoers across America, his message would be simple: Stop dressing so tacky for church. DeBonville has heard about the “come as you are” approach to dressing down for Sunday service, but he says the Sabbath is getting too sloppy. When he scans the pews of churches, DeBonville sees rows of people dressed in their Sunday worst. They saunter into church in baggy shorts, flip-flop sandals, tennis shoes and grubby T-shirts. Some even slide into the pews carrying coffee in plastic foam containers as if they’re going to Starbucks. “It’s like
