Deeply affected by the massacre at Sandy Hook, gun owners in Camden, New Jersey, America´s deadliest town, turned in a record number of weapons in a buy back scheme over the weekend. 1,137 firearms including an elephant-gun were handed in on Friday and Saturday at two churches in the crime-plagued town as the ramifications of the mass child killings in Connecticut seemed to inspire residents to give up their arms. ´We heard that there were a number of gun owners on Saturday who had publicly said, in light of the situation that had just occurred in Connecticut,

And yet ... these deadly cities are still ... deadly. Funny how that happens.

Thugs steal guns, get money for them, then steal more guns. They aren´t giving up their favorites, that´s for sure.

If I lived in ´´America´s deadliest city´´ the last thing in the world I would consider is to turn in my personal firearm.

And the first consideration - I would move out of Camden...

Seems there are a lot of fools in Camden.

Look at the photo. Looks like a pile of old, broken junk. Most are not worth the cash paid for them by the fascists... Oh, I mean "government."

One seriously wonders where AP and their UK counterpart get their facts...

According to US News - Camden NJ doesn´t make the top 10 list of ´dangerous cities´ in the US.

According to Yahoo News - it doesn´t even come in the top 25 in that category.

But hey - sure did sound nifty in the fairy tale version...

Well I´m sure this will result in the violent crime rate in Camden taking a BIG drop. Right? Right?

Photo caption quote, "It wasn´t just criminals who handed back their rifles and firearms to the police on Friday and Saturday - law abiding citizens did too" I highly doubt criminals stood in line and sold their weapons; the caption is a misleading lie.

$250.00 each for these old junkers ?

This is another ´cash for clunkers´ deal that helps thugs trade up to better and newer models.

Sorry I missed it.

I´m saving up for the new Barrett 50.

My wife will be thrilled when she finds it under the tree !

Now for the "acid test".......How many of these deadly weapons were surrendered by "The Bloods," "The Sons of Malcolm X," "The Perez Organization" and "The Middle of the Block Boys."?

Study the picture in the article closely. This is what communism and group-think look like.

Sorry, folks. I saw some good firearms there. Right in the middle of the pile is a Henry (gold receiver) and even as a reproduction, worth about 1000 dollars. As an authentic Henry, worth more than a new car.
Buybacks accomplish nothing, however, than a false sense of accomplishment.

I wonder how many of these guns have the serial number grinded off.

From what I could see, not all were junk---far from it. If they sorted thru they´d likely find many fully serviceable and collectible pieces.

Many of the arms there are not all that "pretty" but there was at least one each: M1891 Mosin-Nagant, SKS, M-1 carbine, Ruger 10-22, Winchester M-94 or Henry lever-action with brass plated or all brass receiver, to name only a few. These are not junk, but fun shooters and plinkers. My screen is small, so I could not identify many of the arms in the pile.

Took another, closer look. Also a US M-1898 Krag, and a WW-1 vintage German M-1898 Mauser, a Browning BAR semi-automatic rifle NOT to be confused with the BAR selective fire weapon used by the military from the ´30´s to the 60´s.

That Henry caught my eye as well. Was pricing one of those in .45 long colt the other day; very nice piece of gear. I would submit that either most of weapons were stolen, or there are some mighty delusional folks in Camden, NJ

FTA: "´The more we unarm ourselves then maybe we can stop some of the violence that´s going on. If we don´t have the firearm then we can´t use the firearm,´ said James Green, who turned over his firearm."

"Stop violence by unarming ourselves"! I hereby nominate Mr. Green as idiot of the year

I wonder what Mr. Green will do if he should happen to cross paths with any of the bad guys who didn´t turn in their weapons. I´m sure once he explains his progressive stance on gun control to them they will let him pass on his way unmolested...

Old, broken and rusty guns turned in, i.e. overpriced scrap metal. If they were still functioning, they´d have been sold in the booming gun market. Feel good (for liberals) programs like this are always failures and a waste of money.

There were a few nice ones in the picture, but also some Jennings, Raven and at least one Mitchell. None are even suitable to hammer a nail. cash value new of those is about $60 each.

Reply 25 - Posted by: Trigger2, 12/20/2012 4:57:48 AM     (No. 9075584)

That´s easy to answer. Those old guns had serial numbers which could be traced back to them. Now they can get street guns with the serial numbers obliterated.

This reminds me of all the craziness after "Jaws" came out. I wonder if people will come to realize, just like sharks, firearms while dangerous have an important role to play. Sharks in the ecosystem of the oceans, firearms in the shaping and protection of liberty.

A large majority of Americans hold a bleak outlook on the state of morality in the United States, as 72% said the nation’s moral values are “getting worse,” and only 20% said that moral values are “getting better,” according to a recent Gallup survey. The poll specifically showed that Americans who attend church weekly, are married, or are Republican, were the most negative about the country’s moral direction. But even Democrats, people who attend church infrequently, and the unmarried had high negative outlooks about the nation’s moral values. In the telephone survey of 1,535 adults

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa on Wednesday displayed a string of emails showing his failed efforts to get an update from the Treasury Department inspector general’s office about its investigation into the IRS practice of targeting conservative groups who sought tax-exempt status. Emails seeking the information date back to September 2012, six weeks before the November election. At that point, the U.S. Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration had promised an update. Based on other evidence provided to the committee, the inspector general was aware of the IRS practice of targeting conservative groups

Piled high amid a trail of destruction, these tragic horses are among more than 100 thought to have been killed in the Oklahoma tornado. As well as human lives that were lost, farms around the suburb of Moore took a direct hit from the giant twister which swept up everything in its path with winds of more than 200mph and the power of up to 600 nuclear bombs. Witnesses who cowered in terror described seeing ´horses and stuff flying around everywhere´ and returning to find ´scorched earth´ and crumpled buildings. They came across distressing scenes of horses

A mother-of-two described tonight how she put her own life on the line by trying to persuade the soldier’s murderers to hand over their weapons. Cub scout leader Ingrid Loyau-Kennett selflessly engaged the terrorists in conversation and kept her nerve as one of them told her: “We want to start a war in London tonight.” Mrs Loyau-Kennett, 48, from Cornwall, was one of the first people on the scene after the two Islamic extremists butchered a soldier in Woolwich, south east London. She was photographed by onlookers confronting one of the attackers who was holding a bloodied knife.

In between all the political brush fires that have engulfed the White House in recent days, President Obama and wife Michelle Obama have still managed time for vacation planning. The nation’s first family is looking to cool their jets this summer at a house in Farm Neck on Martha’s Vineyard, according to the Boston Globe. Obama and his family are no stranger to Martha’s Vineyard, having made three previous summer visits to Blue Heron Farm in Chilmark. They skipped going there last summer, and their favorite Blue Heron Farm house might not be available anymore.

The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”

Former Democratic National committee chairman Howard Dean considers the controversy over Benghazi a “joke” and “silly.” “Benghazi is a laughable joke,” Dean proclaimed twice in a discussion with Republican National Committee communications chairman Sean Spicer last week. “With all due respect, governor, when four Americans die serving this country, that’s not a joke, sir,” Spicer responded. “Oh, stop it,” said Dean. The former Democratic presidential candidate also said that there were “no serious questions being asked about Benghazi” and brushed it off as an effort by Republicans to score political points.
