Rep. Tim Scott (R.), whom South Carolina Gov. Nikke Haley has said she will appoint to replace retiring Sen. Jim DeMint in the U.S. Senate, has been an opponent of Obamacare´s sterilization-contraception-abortifacient mandate, and a defender of traditional marriage, the right to life, and the Second Amendment. “The Constitution grants all law-abiding Americans the right to bear arms, regardless of what some would lead you to believe,”
Does he promote guns for 2 year olds? If not, then he should be okay with restrictions on those people who have no business handling guns - including those with serious mental illness with bouts of psychosis.
We heard two men on the elevator today chortling over the fact that the NRA took down its Facebook website. It is as if the NRA killed those little kids in the ´minds´ of liberals but the murder of thousands of babies every year by the scalpel means nothing to them. This is what we are dealing with.
Rep. Scott needs to get this right if he´s going to be among those idiots in the Senate. The Constitution does not "grant" the right to bear arms. That right existed long before the Constitution. The Bill of Rights affirms and enshrines pre-existing rights, among which is the right of free men to bear arms. I´m tired of everyone getting this wrong, including people who take an oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution.
The Constitution doesn´t even say that a person has to be law-abiding to own a weapon. The courts have been known to deny firearms rights for very minor infractions, or no infraction at all. For the liberal crowd, any excuse will do. Firearms should only be denied if a crime is committed using a firearm. Yeah, I know that´s after the barn door is open but the alternative is much worse. Self-protection is a God-given right. Any man who voluntarily gives up his weapon deserves what comes next.
#2, so you agree that the real root of the problem is the ACLU? After all they forced society to unleash these sick people. It was the barriers they set up that delayed committing the maniac who was burning himself. The mother was in over her head fighting the system, but she paid for her mistakes AND the system with her life.
Most of the people commenting about new gun laws have NO idea what is required to follow the many thousands of laws already out there. This monster violated many, many laws after he murdered his mother. Make new restrictions that criminals and maniacs will ignore, if it makes you feel better about making it harder for people in dangerous situations to get a gun for self defense. It sure would be nice if someone stepped up and pointed out that if you tell someone you have a gun free zone, you also have the means to enforce that with more than a sign or a lock.
#4, yahoo!, bravo!, *clap-clap-clap*, yesserie, and let´s hope Senator Scott knows the difference and will stand tall for our Constitution. There is always hope, unless McPain or Miss Lindsy twist his ear.
New York - The Sportsman Channel said Monday it has hired Sarah Palin to be host of a weekly outdoors-oriented program that will celebrate the "red, wild and blue" lifestyle. The program, "Amazing America," will debut next April. The Sportsman Channel is in some 32 million homes, less than one-third of American households with television, with programming geared to people interested in hunting, fishing and shooting. Palin´s show will include a series of stories about personalities and activities in that vein. "It´s very important to have somebody of her stature as a personality on Sportsman because it validates the whole category for
Houston - As the captain of an oil platform supply boat in the Gulf of Mexico, Tom Wagner is no stranger to bumps and other movement while he sleeps. So when he nodded off on a flight from Louisiana to Houston, it was no surprise that the landing bounce didn´t wake him. "That´s the norm for me," Wagner said. "A little jolt wouldn´t bother me." He awoke to a traveler´s nightmare. He opened his eyes to a dark and locked plane parked at Houston´s Bush Intercontinental Airport. "I looked down the aisle, there was nobody on the plane," Wagner said Monday from California,
The top 40 percent of households by before-tax income actually paid 106.2 percent of the nation’s net income taxes in 2010, according to a new study by the Congressional Budget Office. At the same time, households in the bottom 40 percent took in an average of $18,950 in what the CBO called “government transfers” in 2010. Taxpayers in the top 40 percent of households were able to pay more than 100 percent of net federal income taxes in 2010 because Americans in the bottom 40 percent actually paid negative income taxes, according to the CBO study entitled, “The Distribution of Household Income
Philadelphia — A gay teacher at a suburban Philadelphia Catholic high school was fired Friday after he applied for a New Jersey marriage license. Michael Griffin was fired from Holy Ghost Preparatory School after administrators said his obtaining a license to marry his same-sex partner was a violation of his contract. Father James McCloskey, the school’s headmaster, said in a statement that faculty at the school are required to follow church teachings, NBC Philadelphia reported. He said in the statement that Griffin’s decision “contradicts the terms of his teaching contract at our school, which requires all faculty and staff to follow the teachings
Republican and former Secretary of State Colin Powell wants the United States to adopt a universal health care system similar to those in Canada, Japan and Europe. At a celebration breakfast for prostate cancer survivors, Powell talked about his own cancer recovery, which he attributed to the “high-quality universal health care” offered by the U.S. military. He also talked about his wife, Alma, who recently had a serious health scare but was able to access the help she needed. He compared their experiences to a neighbor whose insurance didn’t cover certain medical tests: “Every country I’ve visited, every developed country, they have
American Airlines and US Airways have completed their long awaited merger to create the world´s biggest airline. It follows AMR Corporation, the parent company of American Airlines, emerging from its 2011 bankruptcy filing. Shares in the new company soared after making their debut on the Nasdaq exchange under the stock symbol AAL. The merger had previously been blocked by the US Justice Department (DOJ) over concerns about competition in the sector. "Our people, our customers and the communities we serve around the world have been anticipating the arrival of the new American," said new boss Doug Parker. Mr Parker had previously been the head
Israel, Jordan and the Palestinian Authority are expected to sign a water co-operation agreement aimed at saving the rapidly drying Dead Sea. The agreement, to be signed on Monday, will build a pipeline to carry water from the Red Sea to the Dead Sea and provide drinking water to the region. The Dead Sea is dropping by as much as 1m (3.3ft) a year as the River Jordan is depleted for use in irrigation. But critics fear the plan´s impact on the Dead Sea´s fragile ecosystem. Such a project has been under discussion for years. With peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians apparently stagnating,
On his way to the podium at the memorial ceremony for former South African president Nelson Mandela, President Obama walked down the line of dignitaries, greeting other leaders there to pay their respects. Among the hands shaken: that of Cuban leader Raul Castro. Obama neither made a special effort to shake Castro’s hand nor to avoid him. A snub might have been awkward: In his speech, Obama praised Mandela’s “greatest gift” as “his recognition that we are all bound together in ways that can be invisible to the eye; that there is a oneness to humanity; that we achieve ourselves by
A “presidential selfie” featuring President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, and Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service began making the rounds this morning, but it’s the person not included in the frame who caught everyone’s attention: As anyone with two eyes and a Twitter account has noticed, Michelle Obama does not appear amused. Of course, though a picture says a thousand words, not all of those words are necessarily true. FLOTUS might not have even known the photo was taking place. Or she could disapprove of funeral selfies. Either way.
A black fashion student says he was brutally attacked by a gang of Hasidic men who shouted anti-gay slurs at him while he was walking through Williamsburg after a night of partying, the Daily News has learned. Taj Patterson, 22, was headed home to Fort Greene around 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 1 when he says more than a dozen ultra-Orthodox Jewish men began assaulting him on Flushing Ave. and yelling, “Stay down, f----t!”
The Obama State Department has finally released a second round of photos revealing the harrowing devastation wrought by a terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi on Sept. 11, 2012. The new photographs depict rampant damage to the consulate. They show charred walls, smoldering fires, Arabic graffiti defacing exterior walls, and scattered debris throughout. The extent of the damage would lead any reasonably serious person to conclude that this was a cold, calculated attack, carefully coordinated to mark the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. Unfortunately for the American people, the Obama-Clinton-Rice cabal that led to the Benghazi cover-up was
Just how much do many Hollywood liberals hate conservatives? In an interview with Playboy, Ben Affleck said, "When I watch a guy [on film] I know is a big Republican, part of me thinks, I probably wouldn’t like this person if I met him": PLAYBOY: You developed a political profile campaigning for presidential candidates Al Gore, John Kerry and Barack Obama. How did that come about? AFFLECK: I grew up in a house with a mother who was a teacher and a Freedom Rider—very left-wing Democrats living in a heterogeneous working-class neighborhood. I picked up a lot of those values there, and I
MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry opened her program over the weekend with a commentary about the Affordable Care Act’s colloquial moniker: “Obamacare.” She said that the word was originally created as a “derogatory term,” designed by white men as a way to delegitimize President Barack Obama and his achievement. However, she said that the term will soon be synonymous with all of Obama’s accomplishments and she urged her audience to use the term with pride. “I want to talk today about a controversial word. It’s a word that has been with us for years, and like it or not, it’s indelibly
President Obama, former president George W. Bush and their wives departed Washington Monday morning on Air Force One on their way to a memorial service in South Africa for Nelson Mandela. The president and first lady Michelle Obama are being accompanied by Mr. Bush, former first lady Laura Bush and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on the flight to Johannesburg. A four-hour memorial service will be held on Tuesday for South Africa’s first black president. Mr. Mandela, the anti-apartheid revolutionary, died on Thursday at age 95. Former President Bill Clinton and daughter Chelsea are traveling separately to South Africa. Former President
