Teacher union: Sandy Hook
shooting proves teachers
shouldn’t have guns

Washington Examiner, by Joel Gehrke

Michigan state senators voted Thursday to allow citizens with concealed carry permits to carry their weapons on school property, but the American Federation of Teachers argues that the Friday shooting in Connecticut proves people shouldn’t be armed at school. “Firearms have absolutely no place in our schools—the Dec. 14, 2012, tragic massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., is a chilling and heartbreaking reminder of this,”wrote Randi Weingarten, president of AFT, and AFT Michigan president David Hecker in a letter to Gov. Rick Snyder, R-Mich.

Comments:
The principal, teachers and children were not available for comment. What a pathetically stupid thing to say. I would bet if their children´s school had been involved and someone with a gun saved them you wouldn´t hear a peep out of them. These morons are so blinded by their ideology they have absolutely no sense.

In the blindness of their ideology, guns could not possibly be of any benefit for good. In their twisted logic, the shooting at the school proves their point.

Tell that to the heroic life-saving school teachers in Israel. All of them are trained and armed.

Most certainly Teachers Union Officials shouldn´t have guns and their offices should be well-advertised gun-free zones. To set an example for the rest of us.

Sandy Hook shooting proves the AFT is run by lunatic liberals. Insane lunatic drivel.

Go ahead, put up your gun free zone signs and invite the crazies in for tea.

So 2 plus 2 really is 5 in the teacher union´s world. How stupid. Imagine if that principal had come out with a gun aimed right at the killer. Or perhaps she could have had a stun gun or maybe some kind of chemical spray. Or what if a few teachers (perhaps at least one in each hall) had a gun. These people were helpless and the union thinks that is a good thing. No wonder American kids are getting out of school being dumber than a box of rocks. If I am going down I am going down fighting, While he was busy shooting kids maybe a few of the teachers could have been closing in on him.

There should be a test for backward thinking. Those who think that way should never be allowed to operate machinery or teach children.

Sorry for the second post. But I work in a school and each room has an emergency kit to deal with a child´s cut or bloody nose. So why can´t we be protected from intruders in the most logical way? Being able to defend yourself and fight back. If these people realize that an unknown number of people are armed they might think twice about shooting up a school or any other place.

Most teachers are liberal sissies and would be completely useless in any emergency. Giving them guns would likely make things worse. I don´t have a problem arming conservative teachers.

I saw this idiot woman on Andrea Mitchell´s communist program today. She said, " if someone comes to a school with an assualt weapon what can you do? How to you protect yourself against that"? I can her answer would be to do what the principle and psychologist did - lung at the shooter to try to stop him.

Gun free zones are found in airports between the security check point and the boarding ramps. That describes the only places in the US that qualify.

Seriously, do you think those brave teachers and principal who gave their lives for their students would have been authorized to do that under Union rules?

Thinking like this, as well as Mayor Mike Bloomberg´s, shows the astonishing capacity of liberal fantasy ideology to invert logic and deny reality. One may, and should deplore a society in which the arming of school personnel becomes a thinkable option; but there is no excuse for foolish remarks like Weingarten´s and Bloomberg´s. That these individuals are actually in positions of authority and responsibility is alarming to contemplate. They cannot, or at least refuse to think straight.

It is very likely that public knowledge that someone on the school premises would have access to and training in firearms would have a deterrent effect on potential mass murderers, who may be mentally ill but who are by no means irrational in matters of procedure. But such an effect, if it operated, would simply divert someone intent upon mayhem to a softer target, i.e. an advertised "gun free zone" such as Virginia Tech. I do not think the problem is of such magnitude as to justify the resources required to arm and train school personnel. One immediately obvious change that should be made is better building security. If it is deemed expedient to lock the door, it should not be so easy to gain entry through a plate glass window. But like the 9-11 airplane hijackings before cockpit security was enhanced, nobody seriously expected anyone to take such murderous action. Now we know better.

Mandatory firearms training for all teachers. It´s the only way to secure our schools against these cowardly insane people. I served four combat tours in Vietnam. Two tours in Indian country. I wore a sidearm and carried a sawed-off shotgun at all times. No one wants a face full of .12 gauge buckshot, not even the Viet Cong. Nuff said.

Training and arming teaching staff is one preventive to avoid the tragedy at Sandy Hook. The staff have to be willing in order for it to be effective however. Most of todays teachers have no combat or police experience and it isn´t something you pick up from a book.

Another possibility is for an armed policeman to be on campus during the entire school day. This serves multiple purposes, both an increase in student/staff safety and an opportunity for youth to interact daily with the officers who protect and serve them. The officers have immediate radio contact with police headquarters to insure immediate response from police outside the school.

This is no guarantee that school invasions wouldn´t occur but it would improve dramatically the chances for survival of the students and staff who are the innocent victims.

I believe the taxpayers would without question approve paying for the cost of the officer. My children are grown, but I would definately pay a tax surcharge for the knowledge that Americas children are being looked after by trained professionals.

Total ignorance to say This tragedy proves teachers should not have weapons. Had an adult in that school been permitted to carry and knowledge of how to shoot to kill, that young man would have been stopped and quick. What a foolish remark.

Having guns in primary schools is not a good thing. Where are you going to store them? Curious kids will seek to find them and you could easily have an incident emanating from this. The only thing I can think in terms of protection is to have armed guards. What a terrible state of affairs if it has to come to this.

The crazies that plan this type of action KNOW that once they are in the school they are facing unarmed sheep to be slaughtered.

Here is an easy question. How did he get into the school to begin with? Aren´t schools supposed to check anyone coming in? I ask because that was the policy at my daughter´s school over a decade ago and yet I was able to enter the school several times without being observed or challenged. The problem is that school administration make pathetic security guards. They aren´t serious about keeping people out of the building and once in, you have free reign. How about a secure entry area that you have to be buzzed through to enter?

Right now, people in schools are simply targets and the crazies know it.

In my county each of the middle and high schools has an armed deputy sheriff stationed at the school full time.
( not sure about the elementary schools ) His police car is parked right in front of the school and he patrols the halls in a bullet proof vest. Guess what? No gun violence or any other kind of violence.

The plantation slave delivers her line; poorly. To her defense, had she said otherwise, she would have been tarred and feathered, or possibly found dead in some DC park. The sad truth is that the teacher who hid under a desk and watched the massacre happen in the prinipal´s office through a hole could have saved the lives of 20 angels HAD SHE BEEN ARMED.

Most US elementary school teachers are not wired to use guns. They are teachers and not policemen. What should happen is that armed and trained police officers should be present in schools, or they should hire armed and trained retired police officers to secure the schools.

If the mental case in Connecticut knew that he would be confronted by an armed and trained police officer or maybe two such officers as he attempted to shoot his way into that school it is doubtful that he would have gone there. He was a coward who immediately took his own life as soon as he heard the sirens of the first responders who were coming to get him.

They would then be informed about how police will respond and understand why.

It´s not enough to have signs and breakable locks and windows if you are going to tell the world you are defenseless. Tasers are limited to 15 feet, but would stop a maniac at the door as a last defense. http://www.beststungun.com/taser-review.html

This is the same deranged mentalilty that allowed and still is allowed among pilots, who if had been armed, likely would have prevented 9/11/2002. IMO, liberals, Democrats and anti-gun activists and politicians are directly responsible for non-self-defense gun shootings in the US.

For example, if women were trained and armed, I seriously believe rape crimes would plummet. Likewise, if the teaching credential also required arms training and a gun permit, school gun shootings, school gang activity, bulllying, vandalism, acting out and general misbehaving would likely disappear, and teachers would actually be able to educate rather than baby sit.

The irony of this statement is that unions, all of them, resort and have resorted to violence in their protests. Just look at all the union violence just in 2012.

Look, everyone loves Sean Connery, particularly Sean Connery. That’s why he plays Sean Connery in every movie he’s in. People love that Scottish brogue so much, they don’t mind that he has it when he plays Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez, an immortal Spaniard in Highlander. The guy even won an Oscar for playing an Irish cop with a Scottish accent. Talk about sexist double standards: Meryl Streep has to master foreign dialects to get her golden statuettes. Connery just has to show up on time. In economics you devalue a currency by printing too much of it. In film you

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

Two white adults divided the toys, one equally and the other unequally. Seventy per cent of the toddlers chose to play with the researcher who distributed the toys fairly. But in a second test, when one researcher favoured a white recipient over an Asian one, they picked the ‘fair’ researcher less often, the journal Frontiers in Psychology reports. And the babies are more likely to help those who share the same ethnicity, which is known as

I live in Las Vegas. I live and breath Nevada politics. Something is very wrong. Something smells rotten in the Nevada desert. And Senator Harry Reid’s fingerprints are all over it. I am of course referring to the Bundy Ranch siege. This was a dispute between a Nevada ranching family with rights to the land in question for 140 years and the BLM (Bureayu of Land Management). The government claims they haven’t paid grazing fees for 20 years. The result was a government assault on the ranch- including snipers with assault rifles, SUV’s, helicopters, airplanes and over 200 heavily armed troops. No
