Hawaii Democratic Sen. Daniel Inouye has died at age 88, his office confirmed Monday night. His last words, according to a statement released by his staff, were “Aloha”. Inouye has been hospitalized since early December due to respiratory problems. His cause of death was “respiratory complications”. Inouye had served in the Senate since 1962 and represented Hawaii since 1954. He served as the Senate pro tempore — the designation for the chamber’s longest serving Senator — and the person third in line to the presidency.

His politics often frustrated me to no end but I could never quite get angry because of what he had done earlier in life and the personal sacrifices it had caused, giving faith and credit to the US as a soldier when he might otherwise have been furious. I´m grateful for his service and his sacrifice. I´ve gotten to grow up in a country that he and others made possible that´s been nothing like any other period in human history (and for the better - NOT for the worse, despite how crazy things always seem).

Placed in a high number unit where the enlisted men seldom saw anyone above Sgt..... the grist mill of men that was the infantry war in the last yrs of WW2 in Europe,he excelled, won his honors and paid the price.
A hero he was and shall always be.
Salute!

Inouye served America honorably in WWII. After that he gave up on America and served only the DemocRat party.

Just to clarify his medal of honor - he received the silver star for WWII service, but Bill Clinton, as president, decided that the medal of honor was not given because of the Senator´s race. So Clinton upgraded it to the Medal of Honor.

He was a true hero, and served at a time that was very difficult for Japanese-Americans. I didn´t agree with his politics, but, Sir, you were an honorable American. R.I.P.

RIP Senator. Read up on his military career and how he won the Medal of Honor. This was an incredibly valiant soldier.

I saw him at Dulles many years ago. All by himself, no one helping with his luggage or anything. I wish I knew then what I know now. I would have told him how grateful we all are for his sacrifices. Regardless of party, this was an American Hero.

His highest decoration, prior to 2000 was the Distinguished Service Cross. Bill Clinton upgraded that to The Medal of Honor.

The citation makes it clear that 2LT Inouye deserved the MOH. Salute, soldier, Rip. De Oppresso Liber!

No one should be in office as long as he. At most 2 senate terms and your back out working for a living.

Hawaii is more corrupt than Chicago.

The good senator had many many years to address this problem.

Sorry....don´t care.

I detested him for his politics.

Give me a break! This man was worthless in the Senate. I salute him for his service in WWII, just like John McCain´s in Vietnam, but they are both worthless men after their Military Service. This man did more damage to the US while in the Senate than he did good for us in the 442nd. I don´t wish death on anyone, but we don´t need men like this around in positions of power.

Remarkable in the ways he showed what was right about America and what we still get wrong. Congress is not so slowly destroying us while they go higher and higher on the hog.

A question only. How can a hero fight to save his country from Marxists, Fascists come home to actively elect such to lead his country and devour citizens using obamacare to terrify them? Once a hero, but one who must have stumbled along the way.

A major tea party group is planning protests at Internal Revenue Services nationwide Tuesday following revelations earlier this month that the tax agency had flagged organizations with the words "tea party" or "patriot" for additional scrutiny. The protests were originally scheduled only for Cincinnati, where the IRS has said employees responsible for the targeting were based. But Tea Party Patriots head Jenny Beth Martin tells Whispers she received requests to protest across the country. A call to action on the group´s web site tells supporters that "the IRS is out of control" and so

President Obama will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping in California on June 7-8, the White House announced Monday. It will be Mr. Obama’s first meeting with Mr. Xi since he became president of China in March. They previously met in Washington in 2011 when Mr. Xi was vice president. The talks come amid heightened U.S. tensions over cyberattacks reportedly originating in China. But the Obama administration said it has been pleased with Beijing’s cooperation in trying to persuade North Korea to reduce its belligerent military actions this spring.

The Indiana attorney general’s office confirmed Monday it is investigating a security breach in which Social Security numbers and other personal information were posted online for roughly 44,000 low-income Americans who applied for a federal program that provides discount Internet and phone service. The program was nicknamed the “Obamaphone” during the 2012 election, though it actually started long before President Obama took office. Indiana reportedly has the highest number of applicants, roughly 17,400, who were signed up by TerraCom Inc. and the affiliated YourTel America Inc. Applicants from at least 26 states were exposed to the security breach,

WASHINGTON- Apple Inc. has used an elaborate web of offshore subsidiaries to avoid paying billions of dollars in U.S. taxes on $44 billion in foreign income over the past four years, a Senate investigation has found. Many of the tactics, such as cost-sharing arrangements, are common among large multinational corporations seeking to shift profits to countries with lower tax rates. The investigation did not find Apple violated any laws. But three of its subsidiaries in Ireland claim to have no responsibility to pay income taxes to any country, according to a 40-page, bipartisan report released Monday

Monday afternoon, ABC News released a chilling report that details what journalists have faced while trying to get some answers from the Cincinnati IRS office, which is where a majority of the Tea Party targeting took place. According to ABC, an "armed uniform police officer with the Federal Protective Service" "escorted" reporters through the public building. ABC says if the intent wasn´t to "scare off" employees who might talk, "it was the effect." ABC News is also hearing conflicting reports from Cincinnati IRS employees and the IRS Headquarters in Washington.

CINCINNATI- Few workers know the IRS Cincinnati office better than Bonnie Esrig, who worked there for 24 years. She retired from her job as a senior manager in January. Esrig said she did not recall any discussion of politics in the office. "Politics and religion were things people generally didn´t talk about at work," she said. Esrig did not work on political cases and was not connected to the applications at the center of the controversy. But she worked in the same office where fewer than 200 people were dealing with 73,000 applications for exemptions last year.

On her blog this afternoon, Fox News’ On the Record host Greta Van Susteren wrote that the Department of Justice should feel “lucky” they did not hack into her emails like they did with her colleague James Rosen several years ago. While that sounds like a veiled threat against the DOJ, Van Susteren was actually making a joke about how her personal email account mostly contains correspondence and information regarding her sick dog named Audrey: Had Justice hacked into my personal email account this weekend, they would have had to sort through all the emails from the vet

What did President Obama do on the evening of 9/11/12 when our men were under attack in Benghazi? The invaluable Andrew McCarthy reminds us that Obama and Secretary Clinton had a 10:00 p.m. phone call of which many (including, I think, Chris Wallace) have lost sight. This morning when Wallace asked Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer what Obama was up to that evening, Pfeiffer declared the line of inquiry “offensive.” Translation: Obama and his minions would prefer to “move on” and are warning the likes of FNC off:(Snip for video)The Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper has posted the rush transcript

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. But he insisted McDonough and the other White House officials purposely kept Obama out of the loop.McDonough “rightly chose not to take action” to inform Obama, Carney told reporters at the daily White House briefing.

The Washington Post on Monday reported that Obama’s Department of Justice was investigating journalists before they started wiretapping the Associated Press – for one, Fox News correspondent James Rosen in 2010. Their headline wasn´t "Obama Team Also Spied on Fox News." Fox wasn´t in the headline, on A-1 or on A-12, where the story continued. Newly obtained court documents “reveal how deeply investigators explored the private communications of a working journalist — and raise the question of how often journalists have been investigated as closely as Rosen was in 2010.” Reporter Ann Marimow began:

A senior adviser to President Obama mounted a combative defense of the administration on Sunday, saying the controversies enveloping the White House were the result of Republican lawmakers’ trying to “drag Washington into a swamp of partisan fishing expeditions, trumped-up hearings and false allegations.”The remarks came from Dan Pfeiffer, a member of the president’s inner circle, as he appeared on all five major Sunday morning talk shows in an effort to move the administration past what commentators have described as a “hell week” of controversy and missteps.

Stuart Varney said this morning on "Varney & Co." that one of his producers was given a questionnaire with some surprisingly intrusive questions on it when he switched doctors. One of the questions was whether he/she was concerned about unsecured weapons in the home. Another asked whether he/she was "in a relationship in which you have been physically hurt or are you afraid of your partner?" Judge Andrew Napolitano explained that the question about guns comes out of a post-Sandy Hook executive order by President Obama, but it will be required under Obamacare.
