As I wore before, years ago ,the ACLU and others went before the Surpreme court and got a ruleing that in effect shut down all of the insane asylums because they violated the patients civil rights now many of the homelessare mental patients who woud be better off inside the old hospitals.

Let all those who are surprised that the ACLU was on the wrong side of this issue raise their hands.

Though it is not widely known, our friends, the liberals and libertarians have not only made involuntary hospitalization of the seriously mental ill as difficult as possible - they have done their best to make their treatment when hospitalized as hard as possible. They have devoted themselves to the micro-management and regulation of such matters as forcible medication, physical restraints, and behavioral seclusion for the violently agitated. Very few of such social theoreticians and legal do-gooders know any more about mental illness and its treatment than what they see on TV and in the movies. It is entirely a matter of abstract rights and principles for most of them, typical feel good liberal fantasy ideology. Their seriously uninformed agenda dovetails nicely with the need of the private insurance industry and most politicians to spend as little money as possible on inpatient treatment.

It cannot be stated too often that Ronald Reagan as governor of California had nothing, repeat nothing to do with any of this - not unless implementing the most enlightened and expert opinion of his time is counted against him. What he did in California was done in every state in the union, subsequent to the disastrous Federal Community Mental Health Centers Act of 1963, which set the stage for the elimination of adequate institutional care for the chronically mentally ill. It seemed like a good idea at the time. It could have worked as planned, too - had the really mentally ill people been just a tad more rational and therefore cooperative with their recommended community outpatient treatment.

Why don´t the so called progressives plan a march on the ACLU instead of the NRA?!

The phonies at the ACLU are just a small part of the hypocrites tha allow MENTAL problems to roam around freely...we have THREE STATES that allow their citizens to freely and LEGALY use halucinogens knowing that it alters thinking, reasoning, and actions...but this is OK. How will the anti gun president, the media and the numerous congresspeople handle the killings by people roaming around getting high...will they be held accountable because the weed was legal??? I bet their victims will remain dead after all is said and done...
