| New York Democrat senator Chuck Schumer is hoping there will be a way to establish more national gun-control laws as a result of the Newton shootings. I think we have to do things that protect the second amendment rights of legitimate gun owners, but three things that we should focus on. we don’t know the details yet, so you can’t say any that any of them would have stopped this incident, but you can say they are parts of the pattern,” Schumer said on Face the Nation. “One is to ban assault weapons, to try and reinstate

i think this is a safe place for me to ask about assault weapons. i am not for gun control. i own a gun - illegally, her in ma. and it´s locked up and will be used only when/if necessary should obama "win" a third term. but, what do typical (not crazy people) do with assault weapons? are there gun clubs where they´re used or what? it seems that they are incredibly dangerous - even used with care…i´m just asking...

"Assault weapon" is a term thrown around by those who have no knowledge of guns. A 30-06 with a different stock could be classified as an assault weapon. The ".223" they talk about is classified as an assaulk weapon but with a different stock it would not be. It simply does not make sense. One part that does make sense is banning ammo clips holding more than 10 rounds but from what I have read, none of the numerous assaults used large ammo clips.

The left wing ´crats are such knee jerk dopes, and they are proving the point today. Mrs. Lanza bought and used her guns legally and taught the kid to shoot, for crying out loud.
This is a mental health management issue, not a gun issue.
Mom had issues, based on my reading - no visitors to the house, pulling Ryan out of school as a ninth grader (?), She missed all the signals, which is not uncommon.
How could she get Ryan psych treatment when she was a candidate herself.
Only Fox News is treating this issue properly, thank goodness.

Schumer has a NY state permit to carry. I don´t know how he could find 7 non relatives to sign a notarized statement attesting to his good judgment and character, but stranger things have happened.
The real problem with letting hypocrites like Schumer determine what qualifies as an Assault Weapon is the fact that he really means all weapons. Pistol grips, bayonet lugs, etc. mean nothing. That 3 shot duck gun can just as easily be portrayed as a military weapon. A 10/22 semiauto .22 rifle if misused can be deadly. First of all the bullet easily goes a mile and a half, second of all Mafia hit men love the .22 because it is so quiet and fragments.
If your neighbor is the kind of gun owner I meet on a range and he or she has an AK-47 that has been modified to legally be imported, you are in no more danger than the other neighbor who has that duck gun. In fact if you break into one of their houses, choose the AK house. Inside of 75 yards, which is actually pretty far, shotguns are usually more deadly. You either are responsible enough to own guns and baseball bats or you aren´t. Incremental steps to back things down to a muzzle loader are not the solution we need to work on.

Schumer wants to live in a country where only the government has the guns.

Something to think about before the ´ban large clips´ dance starts. A local talk show host I listen to in my area is also a gun owner. He talked this last week about how it is possible to take 2 or even 3 of these clips and tape them, bottoms together, and have double or triple the firing capacity and not be breaking a law.
Think about that folks. There are ways to get around most every obstacle if one is determined enough.

"Assault Style" is the goofy category in question. An actual assault weapon must have full auto capability or it is just another rifle. Style counts for nothing except to a liberal.
Full auto means the bullets just keep on coming.
Semi auto means one per trigger pull.
IMHO every household should be required to maintain a fully automatic weapon.
These are currently illegal for all but licensed dealers and certified individuals.

The liberals attack now because they are unable to recognize evil. Evil resided in the core of this person and when his difficulties with mental disorders matastisized, evil is what came out. The libs can try to use this incident to disarm the law abiding citizens but it will not stop this kind of evil. Next it will be fertilizer bombs, or fires, or knives, or a multitude of weapons. Remove God and evil takes its place. Every time.

Actually, gun control laws are putting my life in danger at this moment. The 10 day waiting period for a shotgun means that I have no way to protect myself or my home tomorrow. A few days ago, a motorcycle thug (inspired by my landlord) came by and threatened our lives and property if we don´t move by tomorrow. I wanted a shotgun in case he and his thugs broke in, but you have to wait 10 days in California. Besides, I didn´t have the money til Friday to buy anything. So, I have to rely on the Sheriffs to come. Luckily they do hang around the area. But I will still have other things with me because I will not let a thug force me out of my home without a fight. Say a prayer that we don´t get hurt. Thx.

President Obama delivered an address today at the National Defense University called “The Future of our Fight Against Terrorism.” Actually, part of the speech was about the past, including much self-congratulation and some shots at President Bush. This part of the speech is revisionist rubbish. As Max Boot explains: Obama said, for example, that after he came into office, “we unequivocally banned torture, affirmed our commitment to civilian courts, worked to align our policies with the rule of law, and expanded our consultations with Congress.” Umm, actually all of that happened in Bush’s second term.

In seventy lugubrious paragraphs, President Obama today asked America whether as commander-in-chief he should bomb terrorists. He concluded that sometimes he should, and sometimes he shouldn’t. He couldn’t quite make up his mind. Therefore, he would appoint a panel to advise him. Mr. Obama has already authorized more than 200 such drone bombings. His staff has bragged that before ordering a bombing, he personally reviews who lives and who dies. Imagine if Prime Minister Churchill or President Truman had appeared on television to announce an advisory panel before bombing our enemy. We would be appalled

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. -- The Interstate 5 bridge over the Skagit River collapsed Thursday evening, injuring an unknown number of people. Both the northbound and southbound portions of the bridge dropped into the river sometime before 7 p.m., according to Washington State Patrol trooper Mark Francis. Francis said several cars were on the bridge when it collapsed, and some are now in the water. Bart Treece with the Washington State Department of Transportation was unsure when the bridge was last inspected. "All of our bridges in the area are pretty old," he said.

LONDON — British police late Thursday arrested a man and a woman in connection with the butchering of a British soldier on a London street, as anti-Muslim protests sprang up across the country. The arrests fueled speculation that the gruesome knife attack Wednesday — the first successful terrorist act in Britain since 2005 — was part of a wider plot, and prompted questions about the prevalence of Islamic extremism in the country and how to combat it. British officials moved quickly to increase security in London and other major cities Thursday as police raided

Three days of hearings have shown that IRS scrutiny of conservative organizations extended beyond a few rogue employees in Cincinnati, that the agency staged its announcement of the bad news to try to limit the damage, and that the White House knew more, and knew it earlier, than it first admitted. Republicans argue that they also uncovered evidence that the auditor’s report could have been completed months ago — even before the November elections. They also said an internal IRS investigation confirmed the untoward behavior as early as July 2012.

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.
