| Cheetahs need to run. As the world´s fastest animals, the big cats can run up to 65 mph and need to get up to speed to burn off metabolic compounds. But the two who live at the Houston Zoo don´t have much opportunity to do that. "They need about 600 feet," said Beth Schaefer, the zoo´s curator of primates and carnivores. "We don´t have that straightaway anywhere on zoo grounds." So, where can Kito and Kiburi, a pair of 5-year-old cheetah brothers go to burn off energy? As long as they can continue to keep the cheetahs from getting loose and running off into the surrounding population, this sounds like a great idea. Cats of all kinds do much better if you let them indulge in their God created instincts once in a while.

I am a cat person. The happy owner of six. They are all rescue and they are all indoor cats. The younger ones will occasionally run through the house at full gallop bouncing off the walls. I call this "wilding". I do play with them and have toys that let them use their natural instincts of hunt, play with their catch and then kill their catch. If they were allowed outside they would use these instincts on a daily basis. Being indoor kitties those feelings just build up and finally boil over. I think this is great for the cheetahs and a very clever way to allow them to be cheetahs and run like the wind.

Beautiful animals. Cheetahs are somewhat less "catlike" than the other big cats, and reportedly the easiest to tame.

I love it when they quickly change direction chasing their prey. They use their tails as a way to alter their trajectory. It fascinating to watch. This is a great idea for the cats.

This would be a good sport...Cheetahs racing after horses. Give the horse a head start and it would win as the Cheetahs run out of energy quickly. Ok ok they would be on parallel tracks with wire fence to keep them seperate...
This would keep the Cheetahs from eating the horses.

Reply 7, that would be far too traumatic for the horses. Horses are prey animals and they know it. They are trained to expect protection from humans and when they accept that you can protect them there is almost nothing they will not do for you in return.

House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) subpoenaed documents from a controversial ObamaCare program on Friday after charging that the Obama administration had denied his request several times. Issa is seeking information on a federal attempt to boost nonprofit health plans, known as CO-OPs (consumer oriented and operated plans), which compete with traditional health insurance. The Affordable Care Act created a $3.4 billion federal loan program for CO-OPs that Republicans say might never be repaid because of some applicants´ financial troubles.
