Evil stalks our world and always has

Does evil stalk the world? Of course it does: It always has and it is an integral part of our history as human beings. (Snip) So we are transfixed in horror at the latest atrocity, this time in an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut, where twenty innocent children were murdered along with six adults. The writer and owner of the famous blog, Ruthfully Yours, points out the irony that, “… in Newtown was the home of Fairfield State Hospital, which was a psychiatric hospital … which operated from 1931 until 1995. At its peak the hospital housed over 4,000 patients.

There is no question that we see people on the streets who are too nutty to be there.

I was chased by a psychotic more than once along urban sidewalks.
One time I found a policeman, who responded to me as follows (verbatim)...

"Sir, we can´t arrest people just because they´re crazy. We´d have to arrest half of City X in that case."
(city name deleted)

That was frustrating. The officer would not even approach the crazy and talk to him or warn him.
Didn´t even care.

Btw, I would now revise the officer´s estimate upward to about 85 percent of the local population.
Lots of obsessive types, even amongst the "normal."
Too many unable to give up their obsessions.

And apparently some of them like to stalk or repeatedly "hit on" me.
You also would not believe me if I told you who they were.
I´m stunned myself.
Rampant mental illness in this neck of the woods, it sometimes seems.

Modern liberalism, which has become Leftism pure and simple, excludes the category of evil. Sophisticated Leftists, including university professors, journalists and many Democratic politicians, actually deride and make fun of those who use the term evil, as though they were throwbacks and yahoos who are hopelessly behind the times.

The attempt to abolish the category of evil and to deny the ineradicable potential for evil in human beings is a foundational error of Leftist fantasy ideology. One might even go as far as to say that jut about everything that Leftists have wrong, all of their mistaken projects, schemes, and proposals for human betterment on a colossal scale is the consequence of this single fateful error. Leftism is based upon a misunderstanding of the nature of human beings and can therefore never successfully engage with the real world, in which actual human beings -including Leftists- simply do not think and behave the way Leftists want them to. The house of cards that is Leftist politics and social engineering rests upon this basic, willful error.

Lacking the category of evil requires people to reason in terms of imaginary and unprovable "causes" and "explanations" and to confuse means with ends, e.g. the instruments of violence with the objective of the violence.

You can´t legislate away evil. The only thing you can do is try to protect yourself. Shame on those who try to use evil to take away our ability to try to protect ourselves. Tens of thousands were hacked apart by machetes in Rwanda. Legislation will not stop this. Only the fear of eternal torment by a vengeful G-d would have stopped this.

As much as this horrible story breaks my heart, we do have to keep things in perspective. And yes, there is just plain evil abroad in the land.

One facet of that evil is the 50 million babies aborted in this country, most just for the mothers "convenience". Evil takes many forms, and uses many excuses to perform its deeds.

Too bad that politicians, both evil and good, can´t seem to understand that simple fact.

Using libnut logic, we should outlaw booze - because drunk drivers kill people.

Using libnut logic, we should outlaw automobiles because automobiles driven by drunk drivers kill people.

How many politicians have driven an automobile while drunk? We´ll never know.

FTA - Newtown was the home of Fairfield State Hospital.

Having grown up in the area, the state mental hospital in Newtown ( now closed ) was known as Fairfield Hills
or simply " Newtown ".
People with psychiatric problems were institutionalized there.
Until it was decided that the mentally ill would no longer be institutionalized , but, treated in the community on an outpatient basis with medication.
Most treatment centers now are for drug and alcohol detox.
It´s time we re-evaluated that situation.

The author has lumped "evil" and "insanity" together. We can´t do much about evil. Insanity is a different matter. When the liberals forced us to close insane asylms the unintended consequence was that they released lunatics onto society. The liberal theory was that the insane would take their medication and would be safe in halfway houses which were never provided and which would have been empty anyway as there was no way to force them into them.

Amyone who had ever had any contact with the mentally ill knew that the medication had side effects that they hated. Sooner or later, they would stop taking it and there was no one arround to make them take it. This scheme was another liberal impossible dream like the Obamacare which has just been forced onto us.

Somehow, they always get their way. We just can´t stand up against "compassion" which has been the ruination of our country.

I believe -I certainly hope!- that we CAN do something about evil. We had at least better try.

The first step is to acknowledge the reality of evil, to break out of the modern willful illusion that evil no longer exists - that we have somehow outgrown it, that what was formerly called evil is better understood as something else, something easier to comprehend, something capable of being analyzed into component parts and thereby dissolved.

The next step after acknowledging the reality of evil is to admit that the capacity for such evil is an essential and ineradicable part of what it means to be a human being. The most abominable acts of evil are never, can never be wholly Other. We are human. Nothing human is alien to us. It is delusive and dangerous to pretend otherwise. We are far more like the Sandy Hook killer than otherwise. We belong to the same species.

I don´t think one needs to be religious to recognize what is really an empirical fact about human beings. It is amply documented on both a small and a large scale. There is nothing new about it - except our denial of its reality.

Gospel story of Jesus’ resurrection a

“On the third day, he rose again.” That line, from the Nicene Creed, is a foundational statement of Christian belief. It declares that three days after Jesus died on the cross, he was resurrected, a glimmer of the eternal life promised to believers. It’s the heart of the Easter story in seven little words. But how that statement is interpreted is the source of some of the deepest rifts in Christianity — and a stumbling block for some Christians, and more than a few skeptics. Did Jesus literally come back from the dead in a bodily resurrection, as many traditionalist

´8THEIST´ license plate in NJ: Why

If you can get a New Jersey vanity license plate that reads “BAPTIST,” why not one that reads “8THEIST”? That’s the question Shannon Morgan, a self-describe atheist, is asking in a lawsuit after the New Jersey department of motor vehicles denied her vanity plate application. Her main complaint is a bureaucracy deeming that “8THEIST” has connotations that offend “good taste and decency,” the bar which the state uses to judge the suitability of personalized plate messages. She also wants the state to adopt a more “viewpoint-neutral” vanity plate approval policy, since when she typed “BAPTIST” into the DMV application it

When Chelsea Clinton announced Thursday that she’s pregnant, it took the media about two nanoseconds to home in on what that really means: Hillary, should she run for president in 2016, will campaign as a grandmother. (Snip) And for another, Hillary’s newfound role as grandmother isn’t necessarily a political boon. As I wrote in the Washington Monthly’s current issue, it could very easily cut both ways. After all, Hillary, who will be 68 in 2016, already runs the risk of appearing old, a vulnerability not lost on her detractors. From the Monthly: (At sixty-six, Hillary is “not particularly old for

Chef Vered Guttman braved the challenge of preparing a White House Passover seder in line with Michelle Obama´s healthy eating guidelines and lived to tell her story. "The traditional seder fare is hardly fresh or healthy," Guttman wrote in a post-dinner review about incorporating vegetable sides to "offset some of the Jewish carbs" like gefilte fish and matzo ball soup. And her hard work to keep it healthy paid off, as both the President and First Lady praised her quinoa-kale salad and even inquired after the recipe. Guttman, a D.C. based caterer, worked with White House executive chef Cris Comerford

A new poll shows former secretary of state Hillary Clinton´s (D) numbers hitting their lowest point in six years. Meanwhile, it finds that the Republican Party is experiencing something of a renaissance. The Fox News poll, from Democratic pollster Anderson Robbins Research and GOP pollster Shaw & Company, shows Clinton´s favorable rating dropping to 49 percent, compared to 45 percent unfavorable. The last time her numbers were in that ballpark was during the 2008 Democratic presidential primary race. After she ended her campaign, her favorable/unfavorable split was 47/46. Other polls have shown Clinton´s numbers --

DENVER | Colorado Democrats abandoned their own divisive abortion proposal Wednesday, axing the bill after one lawmaker expressed indecision and it became clear they might not have the votes to pass it in a chamber where every vote matters. Democrats used a legislative maneuver to shelve a bill that would have banned any state regulation of reproductive decisions such as abortion and contraception. It had been scheduled for a vote Wednesday evening in the Senate, where the party holds a slim one-seat majority. The move came after Sen. John Kefalas, D-Fort Collins, said he wasn’t sure if the measure was

The White House is going to war with another fox — and this time, it’s personal. The Wall Street Journal reports that a red fox has been causing chaos around the White House, tripping security alarms, digging up Michelle’s garden and distracting the president from his duties. The Secret Service won’t give any details about how often the fox trips the White House’s obviously sophisticated security alarms, but rest assured, officials say, they’re watching. President Obama was apparently “stunned” to see the fox roaming freely down the oft-photographed White House colonnade, home to the world’s shortest, but most dramatic, outdoor strolls. For Hillary Clinton, having her own baby grandchild to kiss on the campaign trail, could be one of the biggest boosts to her possible presidential election campaign. Although the former Secretary of State and First Lady has not said if she will run in 2016, the arrival of her first grandchild will soften her image, analysts have said. While Chelsea only revealed her pregnancy on Thursday, supporters of her mother have already started cooing over a possible baby in the White House. With the Clintons having a near-royal status in the U.S., the announcement of a new arrival due this fall has sent

GREENSBORO, Ga. — Golf holes the size of pizzas. Soccer balls on the back nine. A mulligan on every hole. These are some of the measures — some would say gimmicks — that golf courses across the country have experimented with to stop people from quitting the game. Golf has always reveled in its standards and rich tradition. But increasingly a victim of its own image and hidebound ways, golf has lost five million players in the last decade, according to the National Golf Foundation, with 20 percent of the existing 25 million golfers apt to quit in the next few years. That was quite a victory dance President Obama did Thursday while claiming Obamacare is “working” because eight million people have now supposedly signed up for the health care program. He even indulged in some less-than-subtle mockery of Republicans - and by extension the majority of Americans who have disapproved of Obamacare since before it became law. "The repeal debate is and should be over,” Obama said, taking a dig at Republicans who are “going through, you know, the stages of grief … anger and denial and all that stuff …” But a president who is viewed by most Americans as less

Hi, everybody. For millions of Americans, this time of year holds great meaning. Earlier this week, we hosted a Passover Seder at the White House, and joined Jewish families around the world in their re-tellings of the story of the Exodus and the victory of faith over oppression. And this Sunday, Michelle, Malia, Sasha, and I will join our fellow Christians around the world in celebrating the Resurrection of Christ, the salvation he offered the world, and the hope that comes with the Easter season. These holy days have their roots in miracles that took place long ago. And yet, they still inspire us, guide us, and strengthen us today. They remind us of our

Cliven Bundy has refused to pay grazing fees for land where his hundreds of cattle roam every day. The land is owned by the federal government, which says he owes more than $1 million. Bundy, however, insists that since his family has been using the land since the 1870s, Uncle Sam can´t collect the grazing fees. A tense standoff developed this week after
