| Foreign Relations: A veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan is chained to a jail bed for months after trying to register a souvenir rifle with Mexican authorities, and the Obama administration does nothing to correct this injustice.Since August, Jon Hammar, a former Marine who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, has been held in a notorious Mexican prison effectively run by the Zetas drug cartel. His crime: declaring to Mexican authorities that he was transporting an antique shotgun after registering the gun with U.S. Customs agents on his way to a surfing trip with buddies in Costa Rica.

Comments: Semper fi, unlike the Obama administration.

Obama gives up a Marine as a sacrifice to Mexican authorities still peeved over Barack´s illegal gunrunning operation.
Make a trade. The Won for Jon Hammar.

This "administration" is "idealistic", in that it hates all things traditionally American. The American citizen in question is a combat veteran (therefore suspected of being at statistical risk of being a potential "terrorist" according to DHS dogma), and is also "not a person of color" (therefore not one of Holder or Obama´s "people"). Unless significant political pressure is brought to bear on this "administration" (through Congress or perhaps private sources) this man will be abandoned by his "government" (for which he risked life and lost limbs) and continue to be tortured by the Mexican "government".

Obama could get this guy out in five minutes and he should. However, don´t any of you ever think the US Customs people can give you any kind of permit for anything in Mexico. We are two different countries.

May I remind everyone that Obama blew a cool million throwing a party for the Mexican President. Obama had better start showing the majority population of this country that he is their President too. Get the white guy out of that hell hole. TODAY.

Unfortunately it´s not the "government" that is holding Jon Hammer, it´s the drug cartels to whom hussein has catered with F&F. The Mexican Government is terrified of these criminals who control their government and was aided and abetted by this admin. hussein has no idea how to take care of this situation or any others. Maybe a golf game with Boehner would be advantageous!

There´s something missing in this story. Why did this young man think he could carry this weapon in countries that strictly prohibit them? The fact that it is an antique and handed down in his family is irrelevant.I own one of these and, yes, it´s like a BB gun- just one that sends dozens of BBs at velocity about four times that of a Daisy air rifle. One of he first things I did in preparation for an upcoming vacation in Puerto Rico is to see if I could check it in my luggage and carry it in PR( thinking that they are almost a U.S state in so many respects and I had I found it relatively easy to travel to a Keys vacation with my handgun). It was made most apparent that I will be protected only by my wits and better judgement while visiting. Yes, we should do everything to get this soldier home but I also think this story has parts missing.

What #6 said. Unfortunately for Jon Hammar, he doesn´t look like he could be obama´s "son", or this would be over and he would be back home. The fact that the former Marine served in both Iraq AND Afghanistan doesn´t matter to the most anti-American "president" in the history of this Country. Thanks again, obamabots. Sleep well.

as previous posters have implied, this is just about trying to extort a million dollar bribe to get him out. Since he´s an ex-serviceman, they think the US government (or his family) will come up with the money.
Extortion, plain and simple. It´s what the Mexicans do, it´s what they´ve always done.

Benghazigate: The lack of a timeline for what the commander-in-chief was doing the night terrorists murdered our ambassador to Libya and three others is an "irrelevant fact," according to a key White House aide. Playing the role Sunday of former U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice, who last Sept. 16 went on all five talk shows to parrot the administration line that Benghazi was provoked by a video, was White House senior adviser Dan Pfeiffer. Following in Rice´s footsteps, he announced that the details of where President Obama was and what he was doing that fateful night

Government Overreach: The Internal Revenue Service official in charge of tax-exempt organizations when the unit targeted Tea Party groups now runs the IRS office responsible for enforcing ObamaCare. As bad as the IRS scandal was, with the taxing body of government using its unequaled authority to intimidate and harass the president´s political opposition to aid his re-election, it got worse with the news that the IRS official, Sarah Hall Ingram, who served as commissioner of the Tax-Exempt and Government Entities Division from 2009 to 2012, is now serving as director of the IRS´ Affordable Care Act division.

Employer spending on benefits rose at the slowest pace on record in the first quarter, as companies began bracing for higher health costs with next year´s launch of ObamaCare.Total benefits, such as insurance and pension contributions, rose just 0.1% vs. the end of last year, the smallest gain in Labor Department data going back to 2001. By comparison, payroll employment grew by a half-million, or 0.4%, in Q1. So benefits-per-worker declined. Total employee benefits provided outside of government jobs declined outright.

Welfare: Not content with having more Americans on food stamps than people in Spain, the Obama administration is ringing the dinner bell for illegal aliens. We´ll feed you and not check your status. As we wrote last July, just as food stamp use has skyrocketed here under President Obama, so have marketing efforts to Hispanics under a partnership with Mexico. We dubbed the program "Fat and Furious" after the administration´s gun-running program that also seemingly had worthy goals but had unclear motives and pernicious effects. Energy: As the EPA snipes at the State Department´s approval, Canada´s natural resource minister says failure to approve the pipeline would seriously jeopardize our energy relationship and do nothing to save the earth. Joe Oliver, not amused by the continued delays in perhaps the most shovel-ready project since the pyramids, said Wednesday that rejection by the U.S. of the proposed Keystone XL pipeline "would represent a serious reversal in our long-standing energy relationship." This critical energy infrastructure project is also perhaps the most studied and approved. After a reroute at the behest of environmentalists

States: The governor from a thriving free-enterprise state travels to the U.S. counterpart of Greece and Cyprus with an invitation: Come to where folks are friendly to business. Texas´ Rick Perry arrived in Illinois Monday to lure businesses away from a state that we and other´s have dubbed "America´s Greece" — beleaguered by debt, punished by regulations and subject to ever-rising taxes — to one that´s leading the pack in job and economic growth. Taking umbrage at Perry´s visit was Chicago Mayor and former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel.

Asian Security: As Korea festers, our friends in Beijing have deployed near Taiwan a powerful missile designed to take out U.S. aircraft carriers as Beijing strengthens its ability to prevent U.S. forces from aiding Taiwan. When North Korea announced the 1953 Armistice was considered null and void and threatened renewed missile tests, the U.S. rushed naval assets to the region, including two destroyers equipped with the Aegis anti-missile defense system. We presumably would do so if things heated up between Beijing and its claimed "lost province," Taiwan. That option became increasingly problematical when news

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. She was determined to

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

Very excited to graduate for my master´s degree in Chicano studies! You´re never too old or too busy to continue your education!" the actress wrote on her Who Say site Wednesday, sharing loads of pics of her big day, posing with her family, cohorts and diploma.

What´s so interesting about 60 tea partiers protesting the IRS in San Jose, California on Tuesday, May 21st? The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. What was a DHS agent doing at the San Jose Tea Party protest? (snip) they weren´t just spying on us in San Jose and monitoring us in San Francisco, they were watching us throughout the entire state

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”
