Miracle twins give Bay Area

Less than 1 percent of twins share an amniotic sac in their mother’s womb. The situation is rare and risky and some 20 percent of what are called monoamniotic twins die, often because the umbilical cord becomes entangled, cutting off the blood and food supply. But not Kate and Annie Carlson who were born at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital on November 7 at only 30 weeks old. These miracle twins defied the odds even though their cords were tied in a dangerous knot. A delivery team led by Dr. Susan Crowe performed a successful cesarean section

I had a very dear friend who had twins late in life. She said the babies didn´t quiet down and want to sleep after they were born until she wrapped them in the same blanket and put then in the crib together. This beautiful picture of the twins snuggled up to each other reminded me of my friend´s story about her babies. Thanks, Ramona, for posting

So the babies survived after 30 weeks of pregnancy but the left continues to say you aren´t human until you´re a full term baby.

According to mr and mrs liberal, personhood starts when a baby can survive on it´s own. Really? can a baby go to the grocery store?

Thank God,these little twins were bought into the world with open arms.

Army Ranger Josh Hargis was unconscious, hooked to a breathing tube at a military hospital in Afghanistan after losing both his legs in battle last week. But when the Purple Heart ceremony began at Hargis’ bedside, it turned out he was not unconscious, as doctors believed. Instead, he struggled with an attending doctor to raise his heavily bandaged hand to salute a commanding officer presenting him with the medal. "I cannot impart on you the level of emotion that poured through the intensive care unit that day," the commander wrote to the Ranger´s wife.

These photos might cause a double-take. Look closely: These white balls of fur aren´t puppies, or lambs, they´re lion cubs. And they´re adorable. The rare white color is due to a recessive gene. Seven of the cubs were born in captivity to three South African mama lions since last month. The baby white lions are being introduced by the zookeepers at Himeji Central Park in Japan later this week. There are only about 300 white lions left (snip). The white lion—classified the same as its tan-colored counterpart (snip) are considered a sacred species,

Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand walked into a Senate Armed Services committee markup Wednesday prepared to fight. Her expected opponents: committee chairman Carl Levin (D-Mich.), conservatives on the committee, and many other members of both parties in a quest to strip military commanders out of the process for prosecuting sexual assault cases. But Gillibrand walked away with a very unlikely ally: Tea party freshman Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas. Cruz made a surprise announcement (snip) that he would support Gillibrand´s effort to afford military prosecutors, not commanders, the power to decide which sexual assault cases to try…

Sweden´s Princess Madeleine, the youngest child of King Carl XVI Gustaf, married New York businessman Chris O´Neill in Stockholm Saturday in Sweden´s second royal wedding in three years. Crowds of flag-waving Swedes gathered outside the royal palace in Stockholm cheered as the newlyweds kissed three times before riding in a horse and carriage procession through the heart of the capital. At the ceremony inside the royal chapel, O´Neill held back tears as his bride walked down the isle to a Swedish wedding hymn, minutes before Roxette singer Marie Fredriksson performed one of her best

Buffalo police are investigating a Breckenridge St. man´s claims that police killed his dog when they mistakenly raided his apartment while executing a search warrant. Adam Arroyo wants police to apologize for the death of his pit bull Cindy, which was chained inside the kitchen during a raid on his home Monday. Arroyo, an Iraq War Vet with no criminal record, was not home at the time of the raid. "I got here as fast as I could and I saw the carnage. I saw what happened. My house was flipped upside down, my dog was gone," (snip)

Man gets payout for not shaking

A town in western Sweden has agreed to pay damages to a man who was told he wouldn´t be hired if he refused to shake a woman´s hand for religious reasons. The decision by officials in Trollhättan to pay the man 30,000 kronor ($4,500) means the municipality won´t have to face a review of the case by Sweden´s Equality Ombudsman (Diskriminerings ombudsmannen). The incident stemmed from an office visit by a man who had been offered an internship with the integration division at Trollhättan municipality.

Real Irish aren´t wearin´ the green

Among the thousands of people who will celebrate the Irish and Ireland this weekend, you´ll find a small group whose accents give them away as natives of the Emerald Isle. They might stand out as the only people not draped in bright green from head to toe. Although members of the most recent wave of immigrant Irish are happy and proud to find Western New Yorkers exuberantly celebrating their culture and heritage, they also are a bit perplexed by some of our traditions.

Like him or hate him, there is no disputing that Rush Limbaugh’s very special brand of mixing right-wing politics with his flare for entertainment has produced one of the most successful radio programs in the medium’s long history. Whatever the burning political question of the day, millions of Americans have relished the opportunity to tune into Rush’s program, knowing that he would quickly take that hot potato, throw a few gallons of verbal kerosene into the mix and elevate the matter into a five alarm fire with a just a few well-chosen words spoken in the style only Rush Limbaugh could

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

After presenting at the Academy Awards this year, Kim Novak didn’t want to leave her house. The Hitchcock screen siren, 81, was too humiliated to venture from her home near the Rogue River in Oregon. She read the cruel posts and Internet snark about her appearance, and it was just too much. “It got to me like it gets kids and teenagers,” she told the Associated Press. The “Vertigo” actress, considered one of the great beauties in her day, posted a note on her Facebook wall Thursday, acknowledging that she’d gotten fat injections in her face and addressing her halted

I live in Las Vegas. I live and breath Nevada politics. Something is very wrong. Something smells rotten in the Nevada desert. And Senator Harry Reid’s fingerprints are all over it. I am of course referring to the Bundy Ranch siege. This was a dispute between a Nevada ranching family with rights to the land in question for 140 years and the BLM (Bureayu of Land Management). The government claims they haven’t paid grazing fees for 20 years. The result was a government assault on the ranch- including snipers with assault rifles, SUV’s, helicopters, airplanes and over 200 heavily armed troops. No

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Out of left field, the state Republican Party, or the Brown campaign, or some blogger, would launch a rocket at me,” Warren wrote, adding, ”I was stunned by the attacks.” This reporter (blogger?) reported extensively

It’s the stuff of Westerns: a showdown on the desert plains, the big bad government against an underdog farmer. Though the story has only grabbed national headlines in the past several days, rancher Cliven Bundy has illegally grazed cattle on the Nevada land surrounding his farm for over 20 years. He hasn’t paid grazing fees since 1993, and refuses to renew the necessary grazing permit.(Snip)Rather than using the avenues and pathways presented to him, Bundy has staunchly declared his own law and allegiances. Unfortunately, reality doesn’t work this way. If only it did—we could rebel for paying stupid taxes, refuse to
