| Republicans have agreed to a tax increase of $800 billion over ten years as part of the negotiations regarding the so-called fiscal cliff. Even as Republicans refuse to call it a tax hike (“revenues,” indeed), there are better and worse ways to go about this unpleasant business, and one simple reform would raise all that money and more: eliminating the federal deduction for state and local taxes. While we would prefer no tax increase at all, eliminating this deduction would be a sensible reform of the tax code, and could be paired with tax cuts elsewhere

Stopping tax deductions is a tax increase on those who take advantage of them. Once they are gone they will never come back. Then, when the govn spends all that money, which they will before they even get it, a future congress will come along and raise taxes yet again. It never stops.

Ronald Reagan made this sort of deal with the left when he got rid of deductions for credit card interest and the left never cut spending like they promised.I think getting rid of this deduction led to the recesion that eventually cost old man Bush his 2nd term not to mention him making another deal with the slick,lying left.
I´m all for raising taxes on liberals so they feel the pain of paying for their social schemes but homeowners are under enough stress with property taxes and insurance going up. Then you have Obamacare coming down the pike hitting homeowners simply because they work and are targets of the left.
The people that really need taxing are the types that bundled and donated to Obama at $50,000 a pop.

I don´t fancy paying taxes on tax. Too much double taxation already. Any money that has been taken from me by one gov´t agency should not be there to be taxed by another. This has gone too far already. At the gas pump we pay the price of the fuel, state and federal excise tax are added, then we pay sales tax on the total. There are a lot of other examples like this. It is not fair to tax money that I never had available to use in the first place.

A tax by any other name is still a tax. We are taxed to much and spend more than to much. We are capitulating to propaganda. Cut the Federal government across the board, which will require those heads of departments to live within their means. That might mean no more lavish vacations and no raises for a few years; so be it.
The insane are making the decisions; it is sickening.

President Obama delivered an address today at the National Defense University called “The Future of our Fight Against Terrorism.” Actually, part of the speech was about the past, including much self-congratulation and some shots at President Bush. This part of the speech is revisionist rubbish. As Max Boot explains: Obama said, for example, that after he came into office, “we unequivocally banned torture, affirmed our commitment to civilian courts, worked to align our policies with the rule of law, and expanded our consultations with Congress.” Umm, actually all of that happened in Bush’s second term.

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. -- The Interstate 5 bridge over the Skagit River collapsed Thursday evening, injuring an unknown number of people. Both the northbound and southbound portions of the bridge dropped into the river sometime before 7 p.m., according to Washington State Patrol trooper Mark Francis. Francis said several cars were on the bridge when it collapsed, and some are now in the water. Bart Treece with the Washington State Department of Transportation was unsure when the bridge was last inspected. "All of our bridges in the area are pretty old," he said.

Three days of hearings have shown that IRS scrutiny of conservative organizations extended beyond a few rogue employees in Cincinnati, that the agency staged its announcement of the bad news to try to limit the damage, and that the White House knew more, and knew it earlier, than it first admitted. Republicans argue that they also uncovered evidence that the auditor’s report could have been completed months ago — even before the November elections. They also said an internal IRS investigation confirmed the untoward behavior as early as July 2012.

The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”
