| A group of security officers at JFK Airport are threatening to strike during the holiday travel rush if they don’t get better wages and working conditions. “They are not providing us with enough training, with proper equipment to do our jobs,” Prince Jackson, one of the security guards who has been helping organize his colleagues with the help of 32BJ/SEIU, said at a rally outside Terminal 3 at JFK on Thursday. “I started working here three years ago at $8 an hour and I still make $8 an hour,” he said. Isn´t minimum wage more like $8.75?? How is the airport getting away with this, and why is the union complicit? This kind of puts ´paid´ to the notion that unions are for higher wages for workers. Union dues extracted monthly on this guy´s wages would be painful indeed. Just more hypocracy from the bigwigs in their limos.

"Security officers?" Please. Anyone who has pushed their way through that ghetto airport knows better.
Maybe with these do-nothing turkeys wandering around outside with their signs and mercifully of the way, the holiday travel season won´t be as bad as usual at JFK.

This almost-union worker can thank the two governors who the Port Authority reports to. In an effort to appease the voters who were riled up about civil service workers making too much money during the 2004 election, the PA was instructed by the Board of Directors appointed by the aformentioned governors to discontinue giving merit increases until further notice. This instruction did not apply to union workers because they had a contract. It did however apply to non-union professional staff. They have not had any merit increases in over three years, no matter how well they performed. So it is a bit disingenuous of the unions to be supporting this strike because they are not effected by the freeze in wages.

Way to go unions. Count the number of ways to influence people and win friends. Stiking, particularly at a very stressful time won´t court many people.

Unfortunately, these aren´t the NTSB "safety officers" who sexually molest 90-year old grandmothers and small children in the name of public safety. If those clowns went on strike, it would be a wonderful Christmas present.

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria.
