With an Arab Fall if not Winter dominating the Middle East, the U.S. is under pressure to intervene even more. Unfortunately, reliance on imported oil continues to entangle Washington in the Middle East’s volatile politics. Some analysts advocate more subsidies for alternative energy in response. It would be better to free North America’s abundant natural resources, providing the U.S. with a brighter economic future. Americans have endured multiple energy “crises” centered on the Mideast over the last four decades. Arab oil producers imposed an embargo during the Nixon administration, which had bizarrely discouraged domestic production with price controls.
There´s really no end to various liberal groups killing this country off, economically and socially. So many to pick from,it´s hard to choose. But to me the environmentalists have been the biggest job killers of all.Billions are squandered on environmental impact studies, just to build simple things. They throw in endangered species as a sympathetic ploy to get public support behind them. They´re trying to price fossils out of the affordability range to empower low output, prohibitively expensive alternatives. They´re blocking the XL pipeline on the filmiest of excuses.
Frivious lawsuits filed on behalf of the environmentalists, are costing business billions to defend against. A ruling has come down on BP well drilling offshore because they have been deemed felons by left wing lawyers.
Obama ordered BP to put up an incredible $17 billion for the damage of the spill when the real cost was around $ 5 billion. The rest is shakedown money for trial lawyers to fight over with absurd theories as the reasons. They still have subs in the area looking for globs of oil.
These people laughed and mocked Limbaugh for saying microbes eat the oil.Everything on the earth has some sort of defense and survival mechanism.
Somewhere around 8 years ago my daughter got the bright idea she wanted to go to law school. Fisrt she had to pass the LSAT which is some legal variation of the SAT. I remeber her study guides were nothing but hypotheticals on how to sue for various forms of environmental damage and the type busiess to go after. She decided this goonery wasn´t for her.
These peole have also attacked the logging industry and have stopped common sense plans to protect the forrests, causing these massive wilfires. They´d rather see their precious animals burn up in fires than the logging industry make a dime in profit doing forrest maitinence.
Energy independence would have the added benefit of freeing us from coercion by Arab countries, allowing the US to return to it´s former policy of supporting democracies around the world, especially in the middle east (i.e. Israel). Not while this administration remains in power, of course, but hope springs eternal that sanity will once again prevail in our governance.
It´s a different and worse problem than the author says. The following has been attributed by industry experts to decisions of the Obama admin.: During the first five months of 2012 our total oil imports fell by 6 percent compared to the same time in 2011. We get oil from several countries most notably Canada. Though we used less oil, what Obama did was lower the amount we get from safer parts of the world. He deliberately increased our imports from Saudi Arabia by 29% and from the Persian Gulf overall by 33%. Now Obama can say we´re more reliant on oil from countries that supposedly don´t like us. Ha Ha. They love Obama. He gave the Persian Gulf more of our business so we´d be in greater danger.
What has gone under reported is the success in freeing tight oil from shale through horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing. The horizontal drilling allows the pipe to follow the shale deposit. The fracturing creates and props open the cracks so the oil in the impermeable rock can flow to the pipe. Oil production has increased with tight oil adding roughly 600,000 bpd to 100,000 bpd coming from conventional pools of oil. In TX the tight oil production has added 1 million bpd to the 1 million bpd from conventional formations. Neither state requires permitting from the feds to drill on private lands.
No disrespect to Macaulay Culkin (#ALLDISRESPECTTOTHEPIGEONLADY), but we prefer The Pet Collective´s retelling of Home Alone to the original movie. Mostly because Kevin McCallister is now played by an adorable pug puppy. And if a pug puppy setting booby traps for teddy bear burglars isn´t adorable enough for you, the video also narrated by a small child. So forget Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer. Forget Elf. This is the only Christmas movie you need to watch this year. (Snip for video)As you might suspect, the pug, named Jackson Rosa, could not be more over it...
I’m not sure what Chris Matthews was doing with President Obama yesterday, but it wasn’t hardball. It wasn’t even softball. It was more like wiffle ball. Everyone knew going in that the MSNBC host would be a sympathetic interviewer. But he knew he would be graded on his aggressiveness, so I expected at least a few fastballs. Uh uh. Instead, in a half-hour sitdown, there was one challenging question. Just one. It was as though Matthews was channeling Jay Carney. Matthews is a likable guy with a passion for politics, but he left his interviewing chops at the door. The
WASHINGTON — Sen. Ted Cruz, elected 13 months ago by actual voters, said Thursday he’d prefer to see state legislators pick U.S. senators – as they were until a century ago, when the 17th Amendment came along. Direct election of senators has eroded states’ rights, Cruz argued, speaking to a ballroom filled with conservative state lawmakers from around the country. “If you have the ability to hire and fire me,” he said, “I’m a lot less likely to break into your house and steal your television. So there’s no doubt that was a major step toward the explosion of federal power and
I´m sitting at my desk, looking at a photograph of a gangrenous foot. It is a bloated thing in hues of phlegmatic gray rot, sanguine inflammation, melancholic black bile, and choleric open sores — exhibiting all the humors of a meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Council. Above the photograph, in bold white capitals on a dull, matte background are the words “smoking causes peripheral vascular disease.” The photograph is helpfully labeled “gangrene.” Below the photograph, in a bland sans-serif typeface with letters an eighth of an inch high, is “Marlboro Red.” This is a pack of Australian cigarettes,
Come January, when some number of Americans have bought insurance on the new health exchanges and are starting to use the services, you can expect another controversy to arise when many of them find out just how few doctors and hospitals they have access to. Call it “doc shock,” though the biggest outcry will not come when people try to schedule an appointment with their physician, but when someone gets sick and they learn they cannot go to whatever top-notch hospital they want, only to the hospital that is included in their plan. The problem varies across the country. In Washington,
Last month in San Francisco, President Obama called on Congress to enact comprehensive immigration reform. His speech was novel in many respects: The president used the backdrop of a community center in Chinatown to remind voters that immigrants are racially diverse. Also, for the first time in prepared remarks, the president signaled that he would consider a piecemeal approach to immigration reform long favored by Republican leaders in the House of Representatives. What got the most attention, however, was an unscripted exchange between Obama and Ju Hong, an undocumented UC Berkeley graduate who interrupted the president, calling on him to use
No matter how you spell it, ice is a four letter word Friday. Just ask folks living anywhere from Texas to Tennessee. Those areas are in the bulls eye of a treacherous ice storm, threatening to coat everything in its path with up to an inch of frozen water. Ice is slippery, but also heavy. It tends to bring down tree limbs and power lines when accumulations get thick. In Tennessee, Memphis Light, Gas and Water has 426,000 customers and is ready for the worst. "MLGW employees have been monitoring this winter storm situation and we have all of our
I have never been much of a conspiracy theorist. For me it was always Oswald by himself from the Texas School Book Depository and nothing in the intervening fifty years has disabused me of this notion. For the most part, I’m an Occam’s Razor kind of guy — the most obvious explanation is likely to be true. (Snip) To put it bluntly, Occam’s Razor has moved. Things that were once possibilities now seem almost certainties to me. Principal among those is that Obama’s academic records are perpetually unavailable for a reason — and that reason is most likely that they reveal
One of President Obama´s chief political assets has been his ability to excite young people like almost no politician in history. But the days of America´s youth fawning over the president are over. A new Harvard University Institute of Politics poll released Wednesday confirms what other surveys have shown in recent months: Millennials have soured on Obama so much this year that their opinion of him largely mirrors the American public´s. Even though Obama does not ever have to face another election, he should be worried about the findings for a couple of reasons, which we will dive into momentarily.
A stunning new study unveiled on Fox News´ Hannity finds that President Barack Obama’s White House calendar records just one face-to-face meeting between Obama and his Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in the more than three-and-a-half years leading up to the disastrous Obamacare launch. The startling statistic comes from a new Government Accountability Institute (GAI) analysis of Obama’s own official White House calendar, as well as the Politico presidential calendar, and raises new questions about Obama’s executive leadership and management throughout the implementation of his singular legislative achievement. More alarming still, the president’s schedule lists 277 private
Last summer on his $100 million family tour of Africa, Barack Obama hoped for a priceless photo op with Nelson Mandela, the ailing freedom pioneer who went from prison cell to the presidency of South Africa. Mandela´s family suggested that wouldn’t happen. So, the Obamas did a photo op in Mandela´s former prison cell. Which Obama’s White House quickly tweeted upon word of the icon´s passing at 95. [Skip] But Obama was also caught staring at television coverage of Mandela’s passing, which became Obama’s Photo of the Day.
[Video] President Obama on Wednesday declared that addressing income inequality would be the focus of “all” of the White House’s efforts “for the rest of my presidency.” In a sweeping address that touched on raising the minimum wage, investing in infrastructure and ending tax breaks for the wealthy, Obama warned that the American economy has become “profoundly unequal,” declaring economic mobility the “challenge of our time.” “The combined trends of increasing inequality and decreasing mobility pose a fundamental threat to the American dream, our way of life, and what we stand for around the globe,” he said in an hour-long
Just over two weeks ago, MSNBC host Martin Bashir delivered a harsh piece of commentary that culminated in the suggestion that someone should “s-h-i-t” in former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin‘s (R-AK) mouth. Bashir offered an abject apology on his next broadcast, but a chorus of critics continued to demand action against the host. After a reported “vacation” for the host earlier this week, Bashir announced, Wednesday afternoon, that MSNBC and Martin Bashir are parting ways. Here’s the statement from Martin Bashir, via email: After making an on-air apology, I asked for permission to take some additional time out around the Thanksgiving holiday. Upon
Hardly a week goes by without Hillary Clinton receiving another award. Last month she was named a “Global Champion” by the International Medical Corps, received the American Patriot Award at the National Defense University Foundation and the Hermandad Award from the Mexican American Leadership Initiative. [Snip] At this rate, if a bunch of elderly left-wing Swedes toss her the Nobel Peace Prize early on, the way they did to Obama, it will barely rate mention among all the other glittering trophies that have been bestowed on a woman whose only actual accomplishment was being married to a crooked governor with
