| In Johnson City, Tenn., a town tucked into the state´s far northeast corner, Christmas lights and decorations brighten the streets and shops, and shoppers mill about, brimming with gifts for family and friends. Timothy St. John and his son, 3-year-old Anthony, can just watch. (Snip) The solution? Father and son make toys—Anthony´s favorite superheroes—together from scratch. "We make them from paper, from sticks, from whatever we have, and we fashion his favorite characters," he says. "They don´t speak or light up, but for a little boy, they still feel like presents." It´s Christmastime in a

Comments: How sweet! People have to make Christmas gifts from sticks and scraps of paper again this year.

We stopped in Johnson City on our way to my son´s house in Nashville. It was one sad deteriorating American City. We´ve seen many of them in our travels. The town of JC has some wonderful old buildings that could be restored to make a vibrant historial old town, but it is obvious that there isn´t much there to make a go of it. The city needs jobs, jobs jobs. Obama dithers while American falls apart. It just makes me so sad.

While Obama takes a 4 million dollar vacation on our dime. I vote my tax dollars go to the families that need it. Not him.

See? The libtards were right all along -- poverty and lack are GOOD!
Not for them, of course, but they´re different and better than the rest of us...

Actual cost of Obama´s 3 week vacation is $35 to $45 million when you add in costs of 24/7 Secret Service, travel/rooms/meals, the AF transports that fly limos and Suburbans in/out, the communication teams, WH staffers, including cooks, valets, technicians. The $4 million figure is as bogus as Obama, but permits ABC/AP/NPR to avoid discussing actual costs.
One wishes Obama would follow his own rule of "we´re not going back", resign and remain in Hawaii, the 57th state. Crazy Joe Biden would be an improvement since we wouldn´t have to pretend that the president wasn´t mad.

The ONLY way we get our country back is to strip Washington of its power - our tax dollars.
Until a very large number of Americans stop paying taxes at the same time through civil disobedience, we are doomed.

If I didn´t know better, I´d swear this was a story from the Great Depression. But we all know that´s silly, don´t we? It´s just a story from the new-new economy, the Perpetual Summer of Recovery part II.

For me, it has always been a cash-strapped Christmas. So what. It´s normal for me now. I´ve learned to be frugal and practical. I used to make presents. Now that I am un-married and work retail, I watch for the clearance stuff and use my discount.

This Christmas parents will struggle to pay their electric bills and keep a roof over their head, never mind a record number of homeless children, while Zippy and the troupe live high on the hog on our dime.
Could we have a list of the tag alongs this year ? NE have any photos of something we really want to know ?

Frankly, other than here and Drudge there is a blackout on the 4+ million dollar vacation the obama´s are taking with their homies this year. While the "press" waxes eloquently about how we "cash-strapped" families scrape by, and how heartwarming it is that we. the little people, you know, the ones who are PAYING for obama´s "excellent adventures" WE "spark creativity and togetherness", and the "msm" gives the proverbial "pat on the head" to hard-working Americans, while they are packing for their own trips to Hawaii to tag along with their dear Leader..What a Country!

WASHINGTON — The Taliban signaled a breakthrough in efforts to start Afghan peace negotiations on Tuesday, announcing the opening of a political office in Qatar and a new readiness to talk with American and Afghan officials, who said in turn that they would travel to meet insurgent negotiators there within days. (Snip) By agreeing to negotiations, the Taliban can “come out in the open, engage the rest of the region as legitimate actors, and it will be very difficult to prevent that when we recognize the office and are talking to the office,” said Vali Nasr

LONDON - The world should stop arguing about whether humans are causing climate change and start taking action to stop dangerous temperature rises, the president of the World Bank said on Wednesday. Jim Yong Kim said there was 97 to 98 percent agreement among scientists that global warming was real and caused by human activity. "If you disagree with the science of human-caused climate change you are not disagreeing that there is anthropogenic climate change. What you are disagreeing with is science itself," Kim told a Thomson Reuters Newsmaker event in London. "It is time to stop arguing

Islamabad - Four US soldiers have been killed in an attack in Afghanistan hours after the US announced it will engage in its first formal direct talks with the Taliban after dropping its long-standing demand that the movement renounce ties with al-Qaeda in order for them to progress. A US official said insurgents attacked Bagram Air Base with "indirect fire", suggesting the soldiers were killed by mortars or rockets. There were very few details of the attack, which threatens to impact on the US´s first formal direct talks with the Taliban, due to start on Thursday. One key condition

Amazon and other e-commerce firms are cutting ties with all Minnesotans who earn money by posting links that send traffic to online merchants after lawmakers passed a tweak to state sales tax law. Minnesota E-Fairness legislation, signed by Gov. Mark Dayton on May 23 and going into effect July 1, classifies independent bloggers and online reviewers as a physical presence of a business in the state. This means online companies who pay these people to generate new sales must collect tax not just on those sales, but on all sales in the state. The tax on online

NEW YORK - You might think that moving to a state with no income tax would greatly simplify your tax life. Not so fast. If you´re not careful, it could greatly complicate things and cost you tons in back taxes and penalties. For example, if you are still planning to spend significant time in your former state, you better limit it to less than 183 days. Why? Spending any more time there could mean you´ll be treated as a resident of that state and therefore have to pay tax. And it´s not just days spent in-state

NEW YORK -- At perhaps a bad time in U.S. employment, it seems there´s a "perception gap" between what workers think they´re worth on the job and how employers see them. Analysis by Bryant & Stratton College with help from Wakefield Research from a survey among U.S. adults age 18 to 34 found that 80% of workers believe they are "job ready and possess all the skills, experience and education needed to advance in their desired career path or obtain their next job." Yet 40% of U.S. employers say most entry-level job candidates lack even the basic skills needed

A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago. However, the six whistleblowers, all part of the original investigation team, stopped short of saying the plane was shot down. Flight 800, a Boeing 747, had just taken off from JFK airport with 230 people aboard on July 17, 1996 enroute to Paris when it exploded

An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lied to the Senate when he said there was never a “stand down” order during the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012. “What was fascinating is that he explained his lie to them,” Joe DiGenova, an attorney representing one of the whistleblowers, told CNSNews.com. “He actually said they were sent to Tripoli. They were needed in Benghazi,” said DiGenova, a former U.S. attorney, now with the Washington firm of DiGenova & Toensing.

Likening religious schools to segregation--a racist system that forced blacks to attend different schools and use different facilities than whites in the American South--President Barack Obama told a town hall meeting for youth in Belfast, Northern Ireland on Monday that there should not be Catholic and Protestant schools because such schools cause division. "Because issues like segregated schools and housing, lack of jobs and opportunity--symbols of history that are a source of pride for some and pain for others--these are not tangential to peace; they’re essential to it,"

Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

Listening to Barack Obama give his speech in Belfast on Monday, it was hard not to stifle a yawn. I kept waiting for the part when he would say something interesting, but, about three quarters of the way through, realised it wasn’t going to come. Judging from television pictures some of his young audience felt the same, after the initial rush of euphoria of receiving the rock star president in their midst had passed. This is not surprising, for we had already heard this number about the inspirational role of the Northern Ireland peace process and the Emerald Isle’s

This is the thirtieth anniversary of the publication of How Democracies Perish, an analysis of the spread of world communism by Jean-François Revel, one of freedom´s most serious French defenders since Tocqueville. At the heart of this work, Revel details "The Tools of Communist Expansion," among which the most relevant for understanding our current situation comes in Chapter 16, "Ideological Warfare and Disinformation." The profound simplicity of Revel´s nuts and bolts account of totalitarianism´s Cold War advance, far from being obsolete

Celebrity chef Paula Deen admitted in a recorded deposition to telling racist jokes, using the N-word, and planning a slavery-themed wedding, according to multiple reports. The May 17 deposition where she made the alleged admissions is part of a $1.2 million lawsuit brought by Lisa Jackson, the former manager of a Savannah, Georgia, restaurant run by Deen and her brother Bubba Hiers. Jackson alleges in the suit that Deen used the N-word at the restaurant and that Hiers sexually harassed her. According to the reports, in the deposition, Deen replied “Yes, of course,”
