| Albany, NY - A Republican who cast the deciding vote to legalize gay marriage in New York has conceded he lost his re-election bid. Veteran state Sen. Stephen Saland´s (SUH´-lahndz) defeat means three of the four Republicans who cast critical votes for gay marriage in June 2011 won´t be returning to the Senate. Saland´s concession Thursday ends a long count of absentee ballots in the Hudson Valley race, in which Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo (KWOH´-moh) praised him for what he called a courageous vote of conscience. Democrat Terry Gipson wins the 41st Senate District race.

It is New York...I don´t care what they do...only a collection of liberal morons would remember 9-11 on one-hand and let a Mosque be built at Ground Zero...then again it is also the same state that has banned (in NYC) 16 Oz soft drinks...their love affair with homosexuality is the least of their problems

As w/ elections, personal political decisions like Saland´s have consequences. After voting for gay marriage last year, he didn´t get the Conservative Party line needed to be competitive. Saland was in the NY State Legislature for 32 years, so his departure is overdue. Buh-bye.

16,000 of us in Saland´s district voted for the conservative alternative - he lost by about half of that, I think, so -- we kicked him out and he knows it.
Of the 4 Republican state senators who changed their vote and voted for homosexual marrkage in NY, 2 were voted out, 1 resigned prior to the election because of opposition to his vote last year, and one was re-elected.
The signs around here were ´Retire Saland´. No man should be reelected to a state senate seat 15-16 times like he was. He became a big government Republican - so many mailings to his contituents exclaiming how he has gotten state funds for this, or federal funds for that.... That´s all he was in the end: a government handout troll. So -- with his vote on gay marriage - who needs a Republican like that? The dem will do the same think. Good riddance. A ´vote of conscience´ my foot. He bought Cuomo´s endorsement with that vote. His vote was huge for the Democrats - they got what they wanted and they got rid of him, too. Jackpot.

If I am going to vote for someone who walks and talks and votes like a Demon-RAT, I might as well vote for a Demon-RAT. Duh...
Of course, I will NEVER vote for another Demon-RAT. And I will NEVER vote for another RINO. So that makes it a lot easier.

“He was not radical at all,” Taramov told WESH-TV. He added that the FBI had been tracking Todashev since the Boston bombings. At some point, Todashev moved to Florida. He was arrested for aggravated battery this month, according to police records, after getting into a fight with a man in a parking lot. When the FBI agent and others arrived at his apartment early Wednesday, the law enforcement officials said Todashev initially was cooperative. They said he appeared on the verge of signing a confession to the killings of three people in Waltham in September 2011.

Jerusalem - Israel´s air force chief says his troops need to be ready to act quickly in case of an attack from Syria. The remarks by Maj. Gen. Amir Eshel Wednesday echo statements by Israel´s military chief of staff a day earlier. Eshel warned escalation could lead to a "surprise war." He said Russian S-300 air defense systems are "on their way" to Syria, though Israel asked Russia not to supply them. Israel is concerned the Syrian civil war could spill across its border. Dubai - Iranian authorities executed two men on Sunday convicted of working for Israeli and U.S. spy agencies, Iran’s Fars news agency reported. Mohammad Heidari, accused of passing security-related in formation and secrets to Israeli Mossad agents in exchange for money, and Kourosh Ahmadi, accused of gathering information for the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, were hanged at dawn, it said. The sentence for their execution was handed down by Tehran’s Revolutionary Court and confirmed by the country’s Supreme Court. The report did not say when the pair were arrested nor when their trial took place.

One of two men allegedly being questioned in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings was shot and killed by an FBI agent in Florida on Tuesday, (Snip)A friend of Ibragim Todashev said he and Todashev were being investigated as part of the Boston bombings. He said Todashev, 27, knew bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev because both were MMA fighters. The man claims he and Todashev were interviewed by the FBI for nearly three hours on Tuesday. The friend said he left the interview, and when he came back to the apartment he found that there had been a shooting.

We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”
