| ObamaCare was supposed to stop this sort of thing, wasn’t it? That’s how Pelosi, Obama et al sold the law, but its plain effect has been to hike taxes and rates. Health insurer Blue Shield of California wants to raise rates as much as 20% for some individual policyholders, prompting calls for the nonprofit to use some of its record-high reserve of $3.9 billion to hold down premiums. In filings with state regulators, Blue Shield is seeking an average rate increase of 12% for more than 300,000 customers, effective in March, with a maximum increase of 20%.

Dec. 31st will be the last day my husband and I are covered by health insurance. My employer will not pay any more toward my premiums. My part would have been $400 a paycheck. When you work as a support staff member of a school you get screwed. The teachers pay 4 cents for the same policy that they want me to pay $400 for. I don´t make enough to afford $800 a month. We are four years out from Medicare. If something major comes up we are in a heap of trouble. We were told this was a direct result of obamacare.

My letter from Blue Cross informing me of the rate increases said " Due to circumstances beyond our control", is code for obamacare.

Does anyone really believe that something like this happening in California will not have a ripple effect throughout all of the Blue Cross entities across the country? Limited vision.
“Reserves are needed to ensure our members’ claims can be paid no matter what,” said Blue Shield spokeswoman Lindy Wagner. “We need them to protect against uncertainties like a pandemic or another crisis.”
The company also expects higher costs from an influx of new customers under the federal healthcare law in 2014.
“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime change in the healthcare market that will bring a lot of volatility, and we need higher reserves for that,” Wagner said.
Conditions like those are not limited to California. Heads in sand won´t keep increases like this from happening elsewhere if it works out in California.

And here´s another surprise from Obamacare: I went in for physical therapy yesterday only to find out that there is now a $1880/year cap on Medicare payments. So this calendar year I can go wild up to $1880 but next year I´m restricted to that amount for the whole year. Thank you O.

I believe ObamaCare is going to illustrate the adage "Wait til it´s free, you won´t be able to afford it".
That $3.9b reserve sounds like a lot for a non-profit. But it may be justified.
These increases aren´t confined to one company or to California. People are going to drop out, then government will somehow have to force them back in.
Sounds like the Godfather script.

At least Blue Shield is still in California. However, if the 60% Democrat freeloading population keeps up the pressure, they might decamp and leave the state altogether, leaving the "free stuff" crowd to find "free" insurance elsewhere.

Obama and his minions has been selling us lies and a boatload of crap since day one. The disparity between this man´s words and deeds is absolutely astounding and yet half the American public continues to support him. The old saying that you elect politicians you deserve seems to be very appropriate for United States nowadays.

The very basics of insurance are that the company has the funds to meet a catastrophe. The funds are not to subsidize goobernment mandates. This is no different than requiring people to buy unaffordable health insurance and the goobernment forcing people to use their savings to pay for it. Savings are not there to support goobernment programs but to insure cash during crises. But then the idea of our goobernment to take money from those that have and give it to those that don’t.

Meanwhile, this just in from Aetna:
Health insurance premiums may as much as double for some small businesses and individual buyers in the U.S. when the Affordable Care Act’s major provisions start in 2014, Aetna Inc. (AET)’s chief executive officer said. While subsidies in the law will shield some people, other consumers who make too much for assistance are in for “premium rate shock,” Mark Bertolini, who runs the third-biggest U.S. health-insurance company, told analysts yesterday at a conference in New York.

The way to prevent abortionists like convicted murderer Kermit Gosnell from occurring again is to build more Planned Parenthood clinics, Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) said at a House Judiciary Subcommittee hearing on Thursday about legislation that would prevent abortion after 20 weeks nationwide. “I would urge my colleagues to think about the extent to which he, Dr. Gosnell, represented the poor quality of health care services available in poorer communities,” Nadler said at the Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice hearing. “We should be working to make sure that high quality

House Speaker John A. Boehner on Thursday flatly ruled out chances of the House passing the Senate’s immigration bill, saying his chamber will debate its own bill instead. The Ohio Republican and his top lieutenants in the party issued a joint statement that seemed designed to tamp down some of the momentum behind the Senate bill, which emerged from a committee on a bipartisan 13-5 vote this week, and to stake out a House GOP position. “While we applaud the progress made by our Senate colleagues, there are numerous ways in which

During friendly questioning from Rep. Hank “I fear that Guam will capsize!” Johnson in Congress last week, Attorney General Eric Holder offered the following statement. In regard to potential prosecution of the press for the disclosure of material. This is not something I’ve ever been involved in, heard of, or would think would be wise policy. He made that statement before the facts about the sweep on Fox News’ James Rosen were known. Since then, it’s come to light that Holder himself approved the subpoena that, among other things, named Rosen as a criminal co-conspirator.

As the saying goes, scratch a liberal and you’ll find a tyrant underneath. NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo is but the latest example. He shoved a very restrictive and ill-considered gun law through the state legislature in the dead of night. Among its flaws, the law criminalized police officers who tote firearms with magazines that hold more than seven rounds. Sheriffs around the state have objected to the law. Cuomo summoned them to the state capitol under what appears to be a false pretext, and used the meeting to threaten them into silence. Cuomo invited

The National Council of La Raza (translation: The Race) has partnered with the Office of Personnel Management to encourage Hispanic activists and members to burrow into the federal government. A workshop sponsored by La Raza/The Race will take place in New Orleans on July 23, 2013. Senior Executive Service (SES) employees are federal government employees in special executive management positions, often with salaries approaching $200,000 per year (and well past that with benefits). What a fantastic talent liberals possess, the ability to talk out of both sides of their mouths. One side utters platitudes about campaign finance reform and the nefarious influence of money in politics, while the other whispers in the ears of oligarchs and plutocrats. One side slanders Republicans as the tools of corporate interests, while the other solicits donations from some of the largest corporations in the world. The next journalist to examine influence peddling on K Street need only walk two blocks south, to H Street.

Meanwhile, Obama still refuses to meet with any border security enforcement officers about any aspect of immigration reform. “From Justino Mora, Angie Kim and Mehdi Mahraoui, to Diana Colin and Kevin Lee,” a White House blog entry reads, “all of the stories they shared were full of hope and optimism that one day their family members and their broader communities could realize the dream of becoming citizens of a country that

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. She was determined to

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”

Anthony Weiner’s New York mayoral candidacy was only made more improbable today after he revealed that he visited a Houston psychiatric facility following his resignation from Congress in 2011. Haunted by scandal surrounding his sexually explicit online communications with women, the Democratic former congressman sought treatment for his compulsive behavior from mental health professionals at the Gabbard Center. According to its website, the facility provides “3-day outpatient psychiatric evaluation,” particularly to “professionals who are in personal or professional crises.” While Weiner did not disclose
