Petraeus ex-mistress
dwelled on his ´legacy´

Washington Examiner [DC], by Paul Bedard

Original Article

In a sign of just close she was to David Petraeus, his ex-mistress quizzed the son of legendary spy chief William Colby about the legacy the former CIA director would leave--just days before their sex scandal was revealed. According to Carl Colby, director and producer of a movie about his dad, who served in the Nixon and Ford administrations, Paula Broadwell asked about Petraeus´ legacy during an October 27 awards dinner Colby and the couple attended in honor of the Office of Strategic Services, the predecessor to the CIA.

And now she´s part of it. How did that happen?

Good grief. This sounds like typical dinner party conversation. Petraeus had seen Colby´s puff piece movie on his dad, had recommended to Broadwell that she see it, and had questioned (after watching Colby´s "legacy" unfold on the screen) what his might be.

It is not unusual for anyone to wonder how they will be remembered.

This seems so innocuous to me.

It appears that Colby is trying to gin it up into something bigger - or maybe just to gain some publicity for his movie on his dad? And Bedard fell for it.

No, this is actually quite revealing. True greatness is not self aggrandizing. What this shows is that Petraeus was using her not just as a sex toy but as a scout and scribe to find and chronicle anyone and everyone who could help burnish his personal saga of greatness. That´s a legacy diminishing insight.

Silly, unattractive little man and his rather strange looking gal pal seem so made for each other. Who needs a legacy?

Petreaus, his wife Holly (nice six figure job based on what qualifications?) and Paula - what a bunch of losers who the sooner the media ignores them - the better.

Buy hey, we still have men and women serving on the front lines in Afghanistan -but who cares, right?

#6, speaking of the bespectaled Holly Patraeus, I wonder if her duties are similar to First Lady Michelle´s when she had a six-figure income at a hospital in Chicago but whose job duties were rather nebulous?

How Lindsey Graham
outmaneuvered the tea party

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. — Sen. Lindsey Graham recognized the threat years before it had a chance to form — and knew immediately what he had to do. After the tea party wave in the 2010 election, right-wing groups were itching to get one of South Carolina’s newly elected conservative congressmen to challenge Graham, the blunt-spoken, deal-making congressional veteran of two decades. Rep. Mick Mulvaney, a favorite of the grass roots, was high on their list. So when Graham got wind in 2012 that Mulvaney wanted a seat on the House Financial Services Committee, he quietly lobbied his longtime friend, Speaker John Boehner, to

If you have student loans, chances are you wish there was a way to make them disappear. And in a way, there is: The federal government now offers three repayment plans that lower monthly payments and will—eventually—forgive remaining debt. A separate plan forgives loans for people who take certain public-service jobs. Some of these options, however, are so new that nobody knows how well they´ll serve borrowers. Even when it comes to well-established repayment plans, many students don´t truly understand their options. And some analysts say that policy adjustments are needed to ensure that students don´t get too comfortable taking on

The Democratic Party’s obsession with income inequality and “the one percent” is factually misguided, science has found. Over the weekend, leading academic professor Mark R. Rank discussed the findings of a recent scientific study on income inequality in the New York Times. It turns out that, according to scientific data, the Left’s horror stories about a rigid class structure in the United States fueled by nefarious, wealth-hoarding one-percenters is false. “The picture drawn of the 1 percent has been that of a static population, just as the 99 percent is often portrayed as unchanging,” Rank writes. “There is a line drawn between

Raced-Based Preferences Forever

You can often tell when advocates of one side in an argument fear they will ultimately lose. They change their branding. A few years ago, warnings about “global warming” were replaced with scare stories about “climate change.” One reason? The Earth had stopped appreciably warming in the late 1990s, making the change a PR necessity. Supporters of affirmative action are now signaling similar weakness. What was called “racial quotas” in the 1970s and has been referred to as “affirmative action” since the 1990s is giving way to a new term: “race-sensitive admission policies.” The language shift is telling — race-based preferences

Would you boycott a family dinner because your grandfather holds some politically incorrect views about welfare recipients? Or, would you uninvite a neighboring family from attending a block party after learning that they attend an evangelical church that upholds a traditional definition of marriage? Most reasonable people would say “no,” adhering to the old adage that it’s rude to talk politics in polite company. Unfortunately, this rule of etiquette that has governed civil society for ages seems to be quickly evaporating in the world of commerce, as highlighted by the now notorious case of Mozilla CEO Brendan Eich. This impolite seed

The attempts of defenders of Obamacare to rouse the American people in favor of the doomed monstrosity have become more desperate and bizarre. The most recent example is taking place in Florida, where the sudden death of a young uninsured woman is being cited as an indictment of the Republican-controlled state legislature for refusing to approve the Medicaid expansion so generously being offered by the feds. If the woman in question had access to federally-mandated Medicaid, they argue, she would of course have gone in for preventative screening which would have revealed her cardiac abnormality and somehow saved her life.

It’s not the line in the sand that Col. William Travis famously drew at the Alamo, when he asked all those who believed in Texas to cross over and join him in a hopeless resistance against Mexican forces. But the offer Rick Perry made to Gov. Cuomo has its own drama. In New York again to persuade Empire State businesses that everything’s bigger in Texas but the taxes, Gov. Perry politely challenged Cuomo to a political debate. On Tuesday, during an appearance on the radio show of Post columnist Frederic U. Dicker, Perry said a debate “would be not only interesting and

The Obama administration is poised to entertain a flood of new clemency applications from thousands of federal prisoners who were given harsh sentences under mandatory-minimum laws following drug convictions, Attorney General Eric Holder said Monday. Holder said in a short videotaped statement that he wants to shrink the federal prison population by a modest amount while ensuring ´that those who have paid their debts have a chance to become productive citizens.´ At the center of the move is a set of old sentencing rules that punished crack-cocaine offenders with more time behind bars than users or traffickers of powder cocaine.

Former Sen. Bob Dole (R-Kan.) said a number of junior GOP senators considering a presidential run in 2016 do not yet have the experience — specifically naming Rand Paul (Ky.), Marco Rubio (Fla.) and Ted Cruz (Texas). The former 1996 GOP presidential candidate sounded particularly skeptical of Cruz in an interview this week with The Wichita Eagle. "A number of the younger members, first-termers like Rand Paul, Rubio and that extreme-right-wing guy, Ted Cruz — all running for president now. I don´t think they´ve got enough experience yet," Dole said. The 90-year-old former senator said, however, his main concern about 2016 is living

If Jeb reaches for the nomination, there will be a titanic battle between the party establishment and the Tea Party. Steve Schmidt, McCain’s strategist in 2008, insists that in the end Republicans usually settle on the most electable candidate. To get by, this Bush may be forced to trim his positions, although the cautionary tale of Romney suggests that he would have to tack artfully and carefully for the sake of the general election. Certainly he will have the resources to outlast, discredit, and disqualify his rivals.

Washington - Michelle Obama said "splurging is the key to life" if you regularly eat right and stay active. Her biggest guilty pleasure: French fries. "How would you appreciate vegetables if you never had chocolate?" she asked. "You couldn´t live without a little chocolate, a little French fries." The first lady took questions from children reporters Monday after appearing at the White House Easter Egg Roll. She told the children that if they eat right the majority of the time, then a splurge or snack is not going to hurt them. "I still splurge when I can, but that's why I try to exercise almost every day," she said.

There’s a pattern of falsifying statistics throughout the entire Census Bureau. And anyone who attempts to blow the whistle on the fraud is either retaliated against or ignored, according to two new sources who have experienced the process firsthand. As I’ve been writing for more than six months, the Census Bureau office in Philadelphia uncovered a case of fraud in 2010, did nothing about it and allowed the practice to continue. In that instance, a data collector named Julius Buckmon was faking reports that went into the nation’s all-important jobless tally and consumer-inflation survey. Because the Census Bureau’s surveys are scientific — meaning

New audio reveals an Eastern Connecticut State University professor warning that Republicans will “want things to go back — not to to 1955, but to 1855? if they win control of Congress in November. Republican victories could also put him out of a job, he cautioned. “We will live in a very, very, very different kind of country if that happens,” Professor Brent Terry told students in his Introduction to Creative Writing course, according to audio obtained by Campus Reform. “I mean, colleges will start closing up if these people have their way.” Over the course of his rant, Terry characterized conservatives

As he moves from lobbyists to the golf course, from press conferences to the tanning bed, he remains oblivious to all that is around him. He has power, incredible power, and yet to this day he has no understanding of the election that made it so. Moreover, all around him are astonishing opportunities for him to be an historic figure -- one who could and should be the man who did more than any other single person in turning back the red tide of Obama. It’s all there for Speaker of the House, and yet John Boehner manages to miss
