Petraeus ex-mistress
dwelled on his ´legacy´

Washington Examiner [DC], by Paul Bedard

Original Article

Posted By:StormCnter, 12/13/2012 5:22:54 AM

In a sign of just close she was to David Petraeus, his ex-mistress quizzed the son of legendary spy chief William Colby about the legacy the former CIA director would leave--just days before their sex scandal was revealed. According to Carl Colby, director and producer of a movie about his dad, who served in the Nixon and Ford administrations, Paula Broadwell asked about Petraeus´ legacy during an October 27 awards dinner Colby and the couple attended in honor of the Office of Strategic Services, the predecessor to the CIA.

And now she´s part of it. How did that happen?

Good grief. This sounds like typical dinner party conversation. Petraeus had seen Colby´s puff piece movie on his dad, had recommended to Broadwell that she see it, and had questioned (after watching Colby´s "legacy" unfold on the screen) what his might be.

It is not unusual for anyone to wonder how they will be remembered.

This seems so innocuous to me.

It appears that Colby is trying to gin it up into something bigger - or maybe just to gain some publicity for his movie on his dad? And Bedard fell for it.

No, this is actually quite revealing. True greatness is not self aggrandizing. What this shows is that Petraeus was using her not just as a sex toy but as a scout and scribe to find and chronicle anyone and everyone who could help burnish his personal saga of greatness. That´s a legacy diminishing insight.

Silly, unattractive little man and his rather strange looking gal pal seem so made for each other. Who needs a legacy?

Petreaus, his wife Holly (nice six figure job based on what qualifications?) and Paula - what a bunch of losers who the sooner the media ignores them - the better.

Buy hey, we still have men and women serving on the front lines in Afghanistan -but who cares, right?

#6, speaking of the bespectaled Holly Patraeus, I wonder if her duties are similar to First Lady Michelle´s when she had a six-figure income at a hospital in Chicago but whose job duties were rather nebulous?

What would a Mitch
McConnell-led Senate look like?
Washington Post, by Paul Kane    Original Article

It’s no secret that Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) don’t like one another. They battle regularly over legislation and their Senate floor fights over arcane-but-important rules have become must-see entertainment for senatorial insiders. According to aides in both parties, the two leaders have not had a one-on-one sitdown to discuss legislation (or anything else) since late last year. Nowadays, all business is conducted on the phone or in brief discussions on the Senate floor. Part of that feud is political – Democrats targeted McConnell in 2008, Republicans targeted Reid in 2010, Democrats

Jews have reportedly been told to ´register´ with pro-Russian forces in the east Ukrainian city of Donetsk. They were also told they would need to provide a list of property they own as well as being ordered to pay a fee or face the threat of deportation. U.S. officials in Washington say leaflets bearing the chilling order have recently appeared in the city amid pro and anti-Russian protests as tensions rise in the area. It comes after Jews leaving a synagogue in the city of Donetsk were reportedly told they had to ´register´ with Ukranians trying to make the city part of Russia.United

The Problem with Rand Paul

In his column earlier this week, the Wall Street Journal’s Bret Stephens laid out his case against Rand Paul becoming the GOP’s presidential nominee. It was a powerful indictment and perhaps one worth building on. Mr. Stephens highlighted what he believes would be some of the obstacles facing Senator Paul, beginning with his long political association with Jack Hunter, alias the “Southern Avenger,” who among other things wrote an April 13, 2004 column titled “John Wilkes Booth Was Right.” The “Southern Avenger” said this: Although Lincoln’s assassin, John Wilkes Booth’s heart was in the right place, the Southern Avenger

EDITOR’S NOTE: Fergus Reid Buckley, the youngest brother of William F. Buckley Jr., and founder of the Buckley School of Public Speaking, died this week. The following article is his remembrance of actress Ava Gardner.I was deeply saddened by the death of Ava Gardner. At one time, I guess I was about as close to her as anyone outside her immediate family. I first met her (I believe it was in connection with the filming of 55 Days at Peking) while lunching at La Puerta de Hierro Country Club near Madrid. She was at the next table. With an absentminded

Nothing to see here folks, move along. That was the verdict of Mayor Marty Walsh and Police Commissioner William Evans on the latest “performance artist” to plunge the city in turmoil. So what if they had to shut down the Green Line and “detonate” said artiste’s attack backpack Tuesday night on Boylston Street? “There was no breach of security,” said the mayor yesterday. Of course not. A guy dressed all in black with a veil that made him look like the Beekeeper of Death runs barefoot down Boylston Street chanting “Boston Strong!” and then abandons his backpack in the middle

At any one time hundreds of thousands of us are cocooned in pressurised cabins scything through the cold upper reaches of the troposphere. Soon enough, this figure will rise to a million: a million passengers, flown safely, if not always comfortably, across countries and continents, and with little call for comment. Before engines could lift heavier-than-air machines convincingly off the ground, any attempt at flight had been dangerous, and yet for hundreds of years, adventurers strapped wings to their arms, and leapt off hilltops and towers in the vain hope of flying. Even when a part of the science of flight

Max Blumenthal, like others on the far-Left, jumped on the July 2011 Norwegian massacre of 77 dead and 319 injured to impugn the counter-jihadi right. His screed, “Anders Behring Breivik, a perfect product of the Axis of Islamophobia” included this sentence: The rhetoric of the characters who inspired Breivik, from Pam Geller to Robert Spencer to Daniel Pipes, was so eliminationist in its nature that it was perhaps only a matter of time before someone put words into action. In other words, we three were to blame for the massacre. A year later, Blumenthal returned to the same theme, this time focusing

Like him or hate him, there is no disputing that Rush Limbaugh’s very special brand of mixing right-wing politics with his flare for entertainment has produced one of the most successful radio programs in the medium’s long history. Whatever the burning political question of the day, millions of Americans have relished the opportunity to tune into Rush’s program, knowing that he would quickly take that hot potato, throw a few gallons of verbal kerosene into the mix and elevate the matter into a five alarm fire with a just a few well-chosen words spoken in the style only Rush Limbaugh could

Less than a minute into his speech at the Boston marathon bombing memorial on Tuesday, Vice President Joe Biden went tragically off script and told the crowd of Boston bombing survivors that "it was worth it." After expressing how impressed he was with the tribute, he said somberly, "let me say to those ´quote survivors,´ my God, you have survived and you have soared. It was worth it. I mean this sincerely - just to hear each of you speak. You´re truly, truly inspiring." The audience sat in stunned silence until Biden declared, "I´ve never heard anything so beautiful than

I live in Las Vegas. I live and breath Nevada politics. Something is very wrong. Something smells rotten in the Nevada desert. And Senator Harry Reid’s fingerprints are all over it. I am of course referring to the Bundy Ranch siege. This was a dispute between a Nevada ranching family with rights to the land in question for 140 years and the BLM (Bureayu of Land Management). The government claims they haven’t paid grazing fees for 20 years. The result was a government assault on the ranch- including snipers with assault rifles, SUV’s, helicopters, airplanes and over 200 heavily armed troops. No

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

Look, everyone loves Sean Connery, particularly Sean Connery. That’s why he plays Sean Connery in every movie he’s in. People love that Scottish brogue so much, they don’t mind that he has it when he plays Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez, an immortal Spaniard in Highlander. The guy even won an Oscar for playing an Irish cop with a Scottish accent. Talk about sexist double standards: Meryl Streep has to master foreign dialects to get her golden statuettes. Connery just has to show up on time. In economics you devalue a currency by printing too much of it. In film you

Toddlers show racial bias when picking playmates, a study reveals. They also take account of how fairly others behave. Researchers tested the reaction of white 15-month-olds as toys were distributed. Two white adults divided the toys, one equally and the other unequally. Seventy per cent of the toddlers chose to play with the researcher who distributed the toys fairly. But in a second test, when one researcher favoured a white recipient over an Asian one, they picked the ‘fair’ researcher less often, the journal Frontiers in Psychology reports. And the babies are more likely to help those who share the same ethnicity, which is known as

Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren wrote in her forthcoming book that she was “hurt” and “angry” by 2012 reporting on her fraudulent claim to Native American heritage. “What really threw me, though, were the constant attacks from the other side,” Warren wrote in her book “A Fighting Chance.” “I would almost persuade myself that I was starting to get the hang of full-throttle campaigning and then — bam! Out of left field, the state Republican Party, or the Brown campaign, or some blogger, would launch a rocket at me,” Warren wrote, adding, ”I was stunned by the attacks.” This reporter (blogger?) reported extensively
