| One of the mayors invited by President Obama on Wednesday to a White House meeting on fiscal issues predicted after the session that there would be civil unrest if congressional Republicans fail to agree to extended tax cuts for the middle class. “I think that America will retaliate in the event this does not occur,” said Mayor Michael Coleman of Columbus, Ohio. “Yes, we’re going to be frustrated if this does not occur. In fact, it’ll rise above frustration.” Asked by a reporter to elaborate, Mr. Coleman said retaliation was “maybe a little bit too strong” a word, but added

No matter how badly this ends -- and it will end badly, mark my words -- the Republicans are going to get blamed for the mess.
It doesn´t matter what we do or don´t do, we will get blamed, and the MSM will blast that message day after day until the populace starts lynching every Republican they can find.
This country died on 11-6-2012. The sooner it implodes under it´s own rot and corruption, the sooner we can start to rebuild (or at least our new masters, the Chinese or the muslims can take over and get it over with)...

More fanning the flames by an African-American Democrat. Highly irresponsible speech, but of course he gets a pass.

Obama has planned since day one for the Bush tax cuts to expire and the revenues to increase. He grudgingly allowed them to be extended only with some major redistributionist twists. He has signed a bipartisan law to increase taxes for everyone Jan 1 and rein in entitlements over the decade. The unhappiness of the middle class will be nothing compared to the anger of the poor. But the Democrats no longer have the courage to fix the monster they created.

If you read the article carefully, notice this little gem: Coleman predicting ´there would be civil unrest if congressional Republicans fail to agree to extended tax cuts for the middle class.´ Yea, right. Agree with Obama, or we´re going to burn down the town, & then blame the Republicans. Yes, the country signed its own death by slow torture agreement on 11-06-12. This is only the beginning folks.

Let it expire. Let taxes go up for everyone. Let the cuts have to be made. You are gonna get blamed anyway.
Immediately in the next session of Congress, put together a tax reform bill that lowers tax rates for everyone, and closes loopholes, cuts capital gains taxes, eliminates AMT, and eliminates the inheritance tax (or at least lowers it), and neutered ObamaCare taxes No new entitlements, no silliness, just a straight forward simplification of the tax code, and sane rates. Then let Reid and Zippy say why they are stopping lowering tax rates and make the tax system simpler and more "fair".
Idiots.

This is Obama´s boys, after being encouraged to create rage riots in the streets by the POTUS! Stupid, stupid stupid!
Hasn´t anyone in the MSM or DNC noticed what was preached as Taxing The Rich was defined before the election as millionaires & billionaires... and now he´s talking of taxing the rich at $250k & up!
Another cutsie trick = Obama measures being rich by your net worth... not your annual salary. Get ready for massive taxation of anyone who isn´t on welfare.

Must be that illustrious mayor from Columbus foresees his job in jeopardy if Bush tax rates go up because he would have a hard time selling more tax increases for Columbus residents.

Liberals are always running around with their hair on fire saying tax cuts don´t work, add to the deficit etc. But here you have Obama wanting an extension of the payroll tax cut which is robbing SS and medicare and now this goon pushing for middle class tax cuts.
The reason is simple. The people who will get hit hardest by the middle class rates going up are high middle class earners that are either government or private union members. They don´t want to contribute to Obama´s social justice schemes that are costing billions.
For this reason and others,Boehner has more leverage than people think. The 3% rate increase is an Obama thing. Rank and file dems don´t want it because people in their district will get hit. You´re already seeing cracks in Obamacare because of a backlash on medical device taxes at least,,which I think hurt mass. but other states as well.
Medical devices could actually save money over conventional treatments,so it makes no sense at all to super tax them.
I said Boehner should pass a free standing bill extending the middle class cuts and maybe a 13 week unemployment extension, then go home and let the senate deal with the tax on the rich. It won´t pass there, trust me.

Bush´s tax cuts for the rich will expire. We will be back to the Clinton tax rates, when everything was great. I thought this is what all liberals were fighting for.

President Obama delivered an address today at the National Defense University called “The Future of our Fight Against Terrorism.” Actually, part of the speech was about the past, including much self-congratulation and some shots at President Bush. This part of the speech is revisionist rubbish. As Max Boot explains: Obama said, for example, that after he came into office, “we unequivocally banned torture, affirmed our commitment to civilian courts, worked to align our policies with the rule of law, and expanded our consultations with Congress.” Umm, actually all of that happened in Bush’s second term.

In seventy lugubrious paragraphs, President Obama today asked America whether as commander-in-chief he should bomb terrorists. He concluded that sometimes he should, and sometimes he shouldn’t. He couldn’t quite make up his mind. Therefore, he would appoint a panel to advise him. Mr. Obama has already authorized more than 200 such drone bombings. His staff has bragged that before ordering a bombing, he personally reviews who lives and who dies. Imagine if Prime Minister Churchill or President Truman had appeared on television to announce an advisory panel before bombing our enemy. We would be appalled

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. -- The Interstate 5 bridge over the Skagit River collapsed Thursday evening, injuring an unknown number of people. Both the northbound and southbound portions of the bridge dropped into the river sometime before 7 p.m., according to Washington State Patrol trooper Mark Francis. Francis said several cars were on the bridge when it collapsed, and some are now in the water. Bart Treece with the Washington State Department of Transportation was unsure when the bridge was last inspected. "All of our bridges in the area are pretty old," he said.

Fox News chief Roger Ailes has sent a memo to his subordinates at the leading cable news network. He sent this memo to his staff today in connection with the federal investigation into an alleged leak to Fox News reporter James Rosen, a story that the Washington Post’s Ann E. Marimow broke earlier this week. The memo’s a masterpiece, too. For all those who wonder what it is about Ailes that endears his people to him — and that makes him such a good interviewee for any media reporter lucky enough to get an audience

Anthony Weiner’s New York mayoral candidacy was only made more improbable today after he revealed that he visited a Houston psychiatric facility following his resignation from Congress in 2011. Haunted by scandal surrounding his sexually explicit online communications with women, the Democratic former congressman sought treatment for his compulsive behavior from mental health professionals at the Gabbard Center. According to its website, the facility provides “3-day outpatient psychiatric evaluation,” particularly to “professionals who are in personal or professional crises.” While Weiner did not disclose

LONDON — British police late Thursday arrested a man and a woman in connection with the butchering of a British soldier on a London street, as anti-Muslim protests sprang up across the country. The arrests fueled speculation that the gruesome knife attack Wednesday — the first successful terrorist act in Britain since 2005 — was part of a wider plot, and prompted questions about the prevalence of Islamic extremism in the country and how to combat it. British officials moved quickly to increase security in London and other major cities Thursday as police raided

Three days of hearings have shown that IRS scrutiny of conservative organizations extended beyond a few rogue employees in Cincinnati, that the agency staged its announcement of the bad news to try to limit the damage, and that the White House knew more, and knew it earlier, than it first admitted. Republicans argue that they also uncovered evidence that the auditor’s report could have been completed months ago — even before the November elections. They also said an internal IRS investigation confirmed the untoward behavior as early as July 2012.

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. She was determined to

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”
