RNC May Try to Limit
Number, Format of GOP
Debates in 2016

National Review Online, by Jim Geraghty

Over on the home page, I have an interview with Reince Priebus, the chairman of the Republican National Committee, mostly discussing the RNC”s new Growth and Opportunity Project, which is led by a five-member panel that will review their operations and strategies and those of the Republican party as a whole. Perhaps most intriguing and newsworthy was Priebus’s comment about an effort to limit the number of GOP presidential-primary debates and the format in 2016. GERAGHTY: One of the intriguing points I saw raised in the discussions that this group has had is the recommendation of

Comments:
The last paragraph of the article mentions in passing the leftist moderators. They need to grow a spine and refuse to allow only radical leftists to moderate these debates. I´m not holding my breath.

The real story is they are at work trying to rule out 3rd parties.

RNC´s Master Ostlers thinking about maybe closing the barn door. It won´t matter how many debates, where they´re held, nor even who participates. Debates 2016!...This Time it´s Potemkin! I won´t be watching, even if they do hold them. Autocrats don´t debate.

The headline, and from a friendly source, says volumes. Why is the GOP engaged in the debate fandango at all, since its rigged against them? Good reason they´re called the stupid party.

The RNC will be hopelessly lost in the taillights by 2016 if they don´t have some sort of legit come-to-Jesus moment, and that´s doubtful.

Reply 5 - Posted by: Blue-Z-Anna, 12/12/2012 2:53:17 PM     (No. 9061966)

No,no,no. Wrong.

Flood the airwaves with open, honest ´debate-forums´ where the genius and importance of conservative principles are both discussed and explained. Use the primary season as a tool for winning the greater election. Bring in the Trey Gowdies and the Marco Rubios and all the new and talented practitioners of liberty.

We have the better case.

The opposition must resort to trickery.

We can and must tell the simple truth about conservatism in every forum and as often as possible.

Hiding in the corner is not the answer.

have all they want..
as long as they are moderated by Hannity or Rush..
get some practice ones in for the 2014 elections..
they can use empty chairs when the communists refuse a REAL debate..

How about they play Trivia instead of debate?

Then everyone will be able to see just how stupid all Democrats are.

Reply 9 - Posted by: crimea river, 12/12/2012 3:12:21 PM     (No. 9061998)

Perhaps the RNC will contemplate a stipulation that no former Democratic lawmakers’ staffers may moderate one of the debates.

To even have to make this request shows how out of touch the RNC is. Mark Steyn, Dinesh D´Souza, Laura Ingraham, Brit Hume and Tammy Bruce should all be high on the list of moderators.

Reply 10 - Posted by: MisterDickens, 12/12/2012 3:14:39 PM     (No. 9062002)

I´m trying to remember any conservative journalists, if there are any, moderating any democrat debates. Not in 2012 because they didn´t have any, but anytime ever before that.

Why would Republicans ever have debates moderated by democrats? You don´t let democrats up on the stage to debate, except McCain, so why let them ask the questions?

If a little snit like Steffie wants to hold a debate among Pubs, just don´t go.

I would like to see less debates. There were way too many debates last time and suffered from debate fatigue. I do agree that the next debates need to be moderated by conservatives only.

Now that the old guard GOP progressives have dumped our Tea Partiers from committees, they´re afraid we may form a new party.

The Heritage Party? Formed by DeMint? I can only wish at this point.... and pray he does.

Also, after Candy´s trick last debate... No MSM miscreants should moderate... Just put an issue on a screen, and let each candidate state their position. period.

Add Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity and Walter Williams to the debate moderator short-list.

Aren´t there already too few of us? How would dividing ourselves up into two parties help us win an election? Until you can explain that, don´t start a thirt party.

Actually why waste your time, Newt has already conceded to Hillary. Unless we defeat the MSM no one will be able to beat her since they have already crowned her, ask the governor of NY who they are chiding for not endorsing her yet.

Put a stop to cross-over party affiliated voters. That is what got us McCain. Negotiate knowing the dems are so much "smarter" than the republicans in getting what they want.

Certainly, for the primary debates, they can have whoever they want moderate the debates. Why do they let liberals do it? Have Bret Baier and other from Fox do it.

Kind of tells you all you need to know about the current state of the GOP.

Why did the Republicans accept such pro-Left moderators?
They have to face this and decide to fix it, because if they don´t, they will lose to the Tea Party candidate....who won´t need debates.

In other words, the RNC may try to limit the number and format of political ambushes by the DNC in 2016. Deciding to maybe try - hey, that takes some guts!

Hey RNC, why not send out some more fundraising letters so you can give yourselves a raise? All that "maybe try" stuff is harrowing work.

House Democrats this week will challenge Republican plans to call up legislation that provides for congressional approval of the Keystone pipeline, and removes the need for presidential approval. Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) on Monday said he would raise a question of the privileges of the House in order to challenge consideration of H.R. 3, the Northern Route Approval Act. House Republicans are expected to call up that bill on Wednesday. House rules allow members to raise questions of the privileges of the House, which can be used to stop proceedings affecting the safety, dignity and

White House planted “doctored” email narrative in press, then used press reports to push the “doctored” narrative as a political talking point I saw this coming from a mile away. When the White House leaked a single email about Benghazi to Jake Tapper, it launched a war on Jon Karl and Stephen Hayes because the wording of the email varied slightly from the accounts in their reporting. Their reporting, however, was based on summaries because the originals had not been released by the White House, but both reporters stood by the substance of their reporting.

Bill O’Reilly is definitely not a psychiatrist, but that didn’t stop him from offering up his own diagnosis of President Obama‘s “control” issues on Laura Ingraham‘s radio show Monday. According to O’Reilly, growing up without a father in the house has led directly to Obama’s desire to “control his environment” in the White House. O’Reilly told Ingraham that “control” is a “hallmark of Barack Obama’s personality.” He mused, “I don’t want to be a psychiatrist here, but when you’re a kid raised in a real turbulent situation… no authoratative figure, no father, all of that,

The SenateJudiciary Committee voted Monday to allow illegal immigrants who get legal status to begin collecting tax-welfare payments, as the panel spent a fourth day working through amendments to the massive immigration bill and party-line splits began to emerge. In one major change, the committee voted 17-1 to make a third drunken-driving conviction a deportable offense for the newly legalized immigrants if at least one of those offenses occurs after they are approved for legal status. But immigrant-rights groups called that a rollback of due-process rights for the immigrants and said a drunken-driving incident

A vomitous human being. This is really the only way to describe one Lizz Winstead, the co-creator of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show. She’s also the author of following tweet that went out to her 75,000 followers not long after a two-mile-wide tornado destroyed the town of Moore, Oklahoma. Among the 51 dead (the death toll as of 11:40 PM EST Monday) are a reported 20 children–many of whom died at an Elementary School in town–along with mothers, fathers, whole families. Some may be buried alive. The IRS targeted conservatives. God is doing the same with this tornado.

What did President Obama do on the evening of 9/11/12 when our men were under attack in Benghazi? The invaluable Andrew McCarthy reminds us that Obama and Secretary Clinton had a 10:00 p.m. phone call of which many (including, I think, Chris Wallace) have lost sight. This morning when Wallace asked Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer what Obama was up to that evening, Pfeiffer declared the line of inquiry “offensive.” Translation: Obama and his minions would prefer to “move on” and are warning the likes of FNC off:(Snip for video)The Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper has posted the rush transcript

The Washington Post on Monday reported that Obama’s Department of Justice was investigating journalists before they started wiretapping the Associated Press – for one, Fox News correspondent James Rosen in 2010. Their headline wasn´t "Obama Team Also Spied on Fox News." Fox wasn´t in the headline, on A-1 or on A-12, where the story continued. Newly obtained court documents “reveal how deeply investigators explored the private communications of a working journalist — and raise the question of how often journalists have been investigated as closely as Rosen was in 2010.” Reporter Ann Marimow began:
