| WASHINGTON- A quote on the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in Washington, which some say makes the civil rights leader appear arrogant, will be removed, officials said. The quote, "I was a drum major for justice, peace and righteousness," was an abridgment of a speech King delivered to the congregation of Atlanta´s Ebenezer Baptist Church two months before his assassination in 1968, The Washington Post reported. In that speech, he imagined his own eulogy. (Snip) The Interior Department said the inscription will be removed, not replaced, in order to preserve the "structural integrity" of the three-story statue.

Maya Angelou would certainly recognize an arrogant twit if she saw one. King´s quote doesn´t show arrogance. Prophecy, maybe.

The government would have saved money if they had looked the quote up and reproduced it exactly. I would have accused Obama of being involved except it didn´t say "paving the way for the savior to come, Barack Hussein Obama".

Makes one wonder about the kinds of arrogant descriptions we will find on Obama monuments. I had a friend who retired after serving as a city councilwoman for many years. When she was presented with an engraved plaque from the city in appreciation for her service she noted that it stated "from the residence of Hyattsville" instead of "the residents of Hyattsville." She said it kind of summed up the level of competence among the city staff an she had no intention of getting it corrected.

The only arrogance here is the arrogance of public officials in their desire to re-write history. Feh!

I watched a travelogue about the Czech republic (formerly a communist state until it´s liberation in 1989), which featured a visit to a park dedicated to old Soviet statuary. What struck me was how much the MLK statue resembles the style of Soviet revolutionary art. Maybe it´s just me.

Now if they could just get someone to make the statue look like Rev. King instead of Mao------

Here is a sampling of an "Arrogant twit": I live in the same city as Maya Angelou and saw her two years grocery shopping with her white lady servant. Angelou would walk down the aisle and point to the item she wanted, and her white slave would scurry to put it in her cart.

The statue reminds me of some Eastern despot - or Ming, the Merciless.
The new quote should be: ´´Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair´´

#5,6,9, that´s because a Chinese Communist sculptor carved it. I´m NOT kidding. Not a word from the committee that organized this. I wonder if the media would have had a rally if the sculptor had been a white guy.

They ought to take the whole thing down and start over. Never saw it in person, but in photos, it is just ugly, and he deserved better.

Meet the Women for Weiner. The former congressman, who apologized for the lewd picture scandal that ended his House career before launching a bid last month for New York City mayor, is holding a fundraiser hosted by “Women for Anthony” next week at the Manhattan home of an education activist and philanthropist. The host committee is led by his wife, Huma Abedin, and includes her sister, Heba; Rory Tahari, wife of designer Elie Tahari; and Cheryl Saban, the wife of California-based mega-donor Haim Saban, who funded a short film lauding Hillary Clinton’s tenure at the State Department

Likening religious schools to segregation--a racist system that forced blacks to attend different schools and use different facilities than whites in the American South--President Barack Obama told a town hall meeting for youth in Belfast, Northern Ireland on Monday that there should not be Catholic and Protestant schools because such schools cause division. "Because issues like segregated schools and housing, lack of jobs and opportunity--symbols of history that are a source of pride for some and pain for others--these are not tangential to peace; they’re essential to it,"

News reports from the final debate between Democrat Ed Markey and Republican Gabriel Gomez conclude that Gomez, a first-time candidate and self-styled "new kind of Republican," delivered a strong performance. With just days left in the campaign before the June 25 special election for Senate, Gomez has trailed Markey, a 37-year veteran of the House, in every single poll. Markey currently leads by average of more than 9 points. But in the debate Tuesday night, Gomez hit Markey hard on the Democrat´s long Washington tenure, a running theme in the Republican´s campaign. The Obama administration has reportedly tried to enlist the NBA in helping it sell Obamacare to the American people. It’s unclear whether a potential marketing partnership would put big-name players at the center of ad campaigns or if it would be as simple as putting the NBA trademark on marketing materials, Politico first reported today. People can begin signing up for Obamacare in October, with the new insurance coverage kicking in next year. Many have speculated that the enrollment campaigns would benefit from a celebrity endorsement or partnership with a major sports league.

Guides have dropped "God" from their Girl Guides´ Promise. In a multicultural and individualist age, the thinking goes, the movement should pledge "to be true to myself and develop my beliefs". None of that guff about God and country. It´s now all about "Me" and the anything goes spirituality. Hindu, Druid, New Ager, Muslim, Christian: everything´s the same these days. We´ve seen it elsewhere. Druids and Christians are accorded equal rights in the workplace: when a Druid employee, say, wants time off to go to Stonehenge for the Solstice, the boss must treat her the same

A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago. However, the six whistleblowers, all part of the original investigation team, stopped short of saying the plane was shot down. Flight 800, a Boeing 747, had just taken off from JFK airport with 230 people aboard on July 17, 1996 enroute to Paris when it exploded

An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lied to the Senate when he said there was never a “stand down” order during the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012. “What was fascinating is that he explained his lie to them,” Joe DiGenova, an attorney representing one of the whistleblowers, told CNSNews.com. “He actually said they were sent to Tripoli. They were needed in Benghazi,” said DiGenova, a former U.S. attorney, now with the Washington firm of DiGenova & Toensing.

Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

As NewsBusters reported last week, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin called out vulgarian comedian Bill Maher for referring to her Down Syndrome son Trig as "retarded." On ABC´s The View Monday, co-host Barbara Walters astonishingly defended Maher saying, "I don´t think he intended it to be mean-spirited" (video follows with transcript and commentary): WHOOPI GOLDBERG: At a recent standup show in Las Vegas, comedian Bill Maher apparently called Sarah Palin’s five-year-old developmentally-challenged son Trig retarded. And Sarah blasted him on Twitter as a bully. Is that, is it, is he a bully? Is he a bad, what is he?

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.

Marco Rubio. Paul Ryan. The IRS. Illegal immigration. And fraud to the tune of billions.. Now there’s a combustible mix. Let’s start with the IRS, illegal immigration and fraud. We’ll come back in a minute to Senator Rubio and Congressman Ryan. For those who came in late, a year before the IRS scandals burst onto the scene in early May of 2013, an alert investigative reporter for WTHR-Indianapolis (Channel 13), Bob Segall by name, produced a stunning piece of journalism. Segall’s video report is found here and we will quote from his story for the basics.
