There is something that Chantrill seems to forget. Once you get people hooked on entitlements, it will be an addiction that they cannot shake out of.

The 80 billion dollars they plan on extracting from the rich is wrong. The number was the projected amount over 10 years back in the days when economic growth was projected to be much higher. The actual number if the rich don´t shift their earnings is only 42 billion. The only thing the Dems agree on is that this tax rate must go up in January. The GOP should let them go over the cliff. Then re-send them the budget they passed earlier this year with the 451 billion in new revenue from the cliff and offsetting cuts in spending.

What 2 said and remember, the Democrat ground game and fact politics is there religion will be signifant future factors.

I disagree with this article. I don`t think the Dems worry about anything. When things start to go wrong they have one answer - higher taxes!! More money, more social programs and more hand outs. Whose going to stop their onslaught? The GOP is not going to want to be the party to turn off the spigot. They`re shell shocked as it is right now trying to figure out how to pander to minorities. Taking away their freebies ain`t going to cut it. We are stuck with Dems controlling the senate and WH for years to come. Get used to it.

What shocks me (well maybe it doesn´t) is that there are only a few comments on this "must read".

I, like many others out there in our party feel functionally depressed after the election.

I don´t listen to Rush as much since, I don´t care about the fiscal cliff and at this point, I don´t even care if our country goes down the tubes.

I believe that we will be hit again by another terrorist strike within the next four years because our country is seen as weak around the globe.

I just don´t care anymore.

No one in either party really cares, they get paid a ridiculous salary and benefits to hang out in DC, be "important", put on kabuki theater for the people ´back home´ and not have to be accountable other than to be reelected.

We The People have the problem, not any of the morons whom were elected.

The have nots will always vote themselves what the haves have.

Maybe there is a secret deal, known only to insiders, that "they" will spring on us in a couple of weeks after everyone has fed red meat to all their hungry partisans.

I don´t believe it´s that simple. I do believe that the "secret deal" is with Communist dictators and Muslim heads of State. I believe this is all far more clandestine and sinister than a simple "secret deal" that involves only Congressional Democrats.

The election was able to be stolen because of the liberal machine, not individual congressmen. This machine includes currency manipulators (Soros), Muslim infiltrators (Huma, Susan Rice and others in high places in government), the Black Caucus, Hollywood and the various black think tanks, amorphous as they may be.

We are not seeing this as the tentacled monster it is; we are seeing it only superficially and that is a big mistake.

#6 isn´t alone. Romney lost because Reps sat on their hands, didn´t turn out...I guess broken glass tickles or something. The thought of another 4 years of Obama wasn´t a problem for millions of conservatives.

I sure understand what #6 means. We were so sure America wanted to rid itself of the parasite occupying the Whitehouse, the WORST President we´ve ever had. But that didn´t happen, and I for one still can´t understand how anyone could vote for any of these disgusting Democrats.

I feel robbed of my patriotic devotion because of the fact that nearly all of those running our government - on both sides, are a bunch of sellouts and jokers and feckless nitwits. I´m not giving up, but I am pulling back a bit right now.

The answer for republicans is in the states and the states ights movement. As we move forward those states with functioning economies, realistic tax structures and pro growth leadership (Mostly Repub already) will become very attractive to business. The makers will gravitate to those states because that will be where the jobs are.

Those states will then be targeted by the left, those republican led healthy states will become the "rich not paying their fair share" to the insatiable federal leviathan. Sooner or later those states will simply revolt. Not getting any relief from the electoral process and increasingly asked to foot the bill for the failed states like CA, IL, MI a real power struggle between the bakrupt feds and illiquid states against the healthy economys of the red states will ensue. By that time many of the bluest states will be nothing but parasite filled slums. Natural population shifts to the succesful states will tip the balance of power back to the right.

Its simple economics, but it takes time and a cabal of good conservative state governors and legislatures.

Also, state legislatures are voted in by district. The huge voter fraud machines in the cities cannot disenfranchise the working people in the suburbs and on the farms. The dems main tool of vote harvesting and buying is minimized. It is our only hope.

I too thought it odd that Obozo would propose a fix that only equates to $80B; Then I reread the fineprint in his words...

Millionaires... as defined by Obozo are based on their Net Worth... not annual income.

Increased taxes will hit all working Americans who own a home, regardless of mrtg. or salary. If you´ve purchased other natural assets like Gold in the last 3 years, he has a record of that, too.

If you think depressed home values will save you, his miscreants fixed that. Your home will be valued by its Best Use... not market value.

I thought it was the Hapsburgs who learned nothing and forgot nothing. Anyway, there are 23-24 red states where the Democrats are disappearing as a viable political force. There are about 6 states that are in flux and can go either way in an election and the 20 or so blue states. Once all the new taxes hit in 2013, what happens to the producers and providers in those bluest of blue states? Obviously the ones who can get out leave for friendlier locations or they are crushed by the government. The end result is no revenue to support the folks riding in the wagon.

I feel a lot like #6; I had such high hopes for the election. Donated quite a bit to Romney. I thought, the "silent majority" of normal people who work for a living or own small businesses would never re-elect 0bama. Now I´m completely disheartened. I´ve stopped listening to all talk radio and cut way back on reading the news. I have lost faith in our political system. I doubt if I´ll ever vote again.

Look at the mess in Illinois which is the result of millions of un-caring voters who keep electing Chicago democrat crooks. The state is broke from adding millions of illegal aliens to medicare & welfare. The reason was to "save" Chicago, the alien enchroacher that has taken over the state. The state will reamain broke because there is not enough money to keep up with the spending on illegals. At least pay-to-play will disappear because no one will have any money unless democrat crook cronies are exempt from paying exhorbitant taxes.

My feelings are just about the same as #6. I´ve been in a state of depression every since election day. I still can´t get over how Obozo was re-elected. IMHO, it had to be large scale voter fraud. And there have been many stories of just that. I don´t look for any action on this simple because those charged with investigating it are the same ones that were engaged in it. Think Holder. And as stated above, there are more red states that blue and conservatives control most of them. And now Mich. has joined the ranks of GOP controlling the governorship and the state legislature. So, someday soon, the money spigot is going to run dry and those on the federal dole will not have anything to get anymore. Then what? As I have predicted many times in the past, I look for an armed revolution. And if and when that happens, the conservatives are true American will eventually win. I just whish I could be around to see it happen.

The USA went over the cliff some time ago. The "fiscal cliff" is only about elections in 2014 and 2016, nothing else. It has nothing to do with improving the economy.

As the takers keep multiplying and the DIMS keep giving gifts the makers get screwed...and so it will contiunue until the crash or revolution whichever comes first.

I´m another one who´s pulled back and largely stopped paying attention since the election. In fact, this is my first L.com post since the election. Yes, I´m depressed at what happened on Nov. 6. It wasn´t fraud, it wasn´t a gimmick. The fact is, the American people expressed a very clear preference for a path that will lead us to disaster.

Mr. Chantrill´s thesis works great until he gets to 2012. The fact is, the Democrats´ strategy of the last 12 years WORKED. 2012 is the proof. There´s no way Obama should have won, but he did.

And the "maker vs. taker" explanation is simplistic and wrong-headed. The most insidious thing about the American welfare system is that most of the makers are also takers, in the form of Medicare and Social Security. There´s little or no constituency for real entitlement reform, and it will sink us.

I can´t understand why the columnist insists on focusing on the opposition´s perceived problems, rather than our own. Maybe he can stand a few more electoral butt-kickings like we took in 06,08 and 12- but I can´t, and neither can my kids´ wallets.

I´m with #6. Things have not made sense since November 6. I find it hard to read the Must Reads. I find it hard to listen to Rush and Levin. All the conservatives on TV seem to be saying blah, blah, blah. No more, no less.

I´ve begun to hang out at Ulsterman and Lame Cherry, but who knows if their explanations are any more plausible than the stuff coming out of the mainstream media. I´m doing my work, walking my dogs, and going to church. That´s about it.

I think Chantrill is making himself "feel" good....

I agree that the ole white guys of the 50´s and 60´s have lost their place in the party -- but -- they´ll let the young "toughs" carry the ball....

OK, it´s official. Conservative bloggers need to go away for a while. Remember those articles right after the "election" about how surprised all the conservative talking heads were? Obviously they´ve learning nothing. So you guys go back to Cloud Cuckoo Land and let the rest of us deal with what´s left of reality. Either that, or mail us what you´re smoking.

Forming new parties at the fringes only empowers the opponents. Forming a new party at the center (if conservative democrats and liberal republicans get together), would control American for the next forty years. For example, if Lee Hamilton/Sam Nunn types joined with Richard Lugar types............That would be interesting.

I connected with my conservative friends for a weekend away this past weekend. They are saying the same as several posters, taking time away from politics, Rush, and Fox News. Rush is also taking a break from Rush IMO. He has been very hard to listen to since Thanksgiving break. He is depressing, so I assume he is depressed.
I still think we lost due to fraud, but what makes it worse is the silence from the party heads who totally ignore the issue. Add to that the lack of confidence many conservatives have for the "leadership" in the house and its no wonder we are down in the dumps.
We say it but don´t believe it, "don´t depend on government to make it better." Bind your wounds, enjoy your friends and family over the holidays. God is in control.

The entitlement moocher crowd ain´t big on voting in midterm elections, and the Democrats will be slaughtered at the polls. I will despise Democrats forever for what they have done to our country.

Ii unsubscribed to a bunch of sites that constantly sent me emails begging for money. Also decided that much of the conservative media is just there to preach to the choir and make money doing it. Sometimes I think almost the only ones who watch MSNBC are Newsbusters and other such places - just so they´ll have something to stir up. I am sick of it.

Decided to take care of myself, plan ahead, and try to enjoy my life. In the face of such an outrageous administration, that my fellow citizens would vote for him again - well, this is no longer the country I grew up in. I am seriously looking at evasive action - to be activated when I can no longer afford the Obama voters stealing from me.
