| The U.S. government is investigating whether software companies that make cellphone apps have violated the privacy rights of children by quietly collecting personal information from phones and sharing it with advertisers and data brokers. The Federal Trade Commission said Monday that such apps can capture a child´s physical location, phone numbers of their friends and more. The FTC described the marketplace for mobile applications--dominated by online stores operated by Apple and Google--as a digital danger zone with inadequate oversight. Just entered the 21 century with a smart phone and even I can figure out the ´uncheck this box´ if I don´t want my location tracked. parents not smarter than kids shouldn´t be giving them a phone that is.

Wow! I never realized kids were so cognizant of the fact that apps could do anything besides what they were designed for. To expect an app that would connect one to, say, Facebook, could also track who you call and where you are, etc, should be considered by the average 10 year old. I know when I was that age, my friends and I would have been eager to discuss every possible consequence of our actions. (/S.)
Do you posters really believe kids, never mind adults, are going to check out every possible result of downloading an app that allows one to paint pictures and save them. As for denying these kids a phone, I guess none of you have children near those ages, or else the kids are left out of most of kids´ conversations and many other activities.

We all are being spied on. Turn off gps. Read the comments about each app. Your biggest spy is your own pc. The ISP sell the information about you to anyone that wants it.

Afghanistan has suspended talks with the US to discuss the nature of US military presence after foreign troops withdraw in 2014. A spokesman for President Hamid Karzai said the decision was taken over "contradictions" in the US proposal of direct talks with the Taliban. Mr Karzai also ruled out talking to the Taliban until the peace process was "Afghan-led". Earlier, four US soldiers died in a Taliban attack at an Afghan air base. A spokesman for the Taliban said the militants had launched two rockets at Bagram airbase, the largest military base for US troops in Afghanistan.

An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lied to the Senate when he said there was never a “stand down” order during the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012. “What was fascinating is that he explained his lie to them,” Joe DiGenova, an attorney representing one of the whistleblowers, told CNSNews.com. “He actually said they were sent to Tripoli. Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.
