In the immediate wake of the election, Republicans felt so stunned — in no small part because they had deluded themselves into expecting victory — that it seemed momentarily possible that the party’s long march to the right may halt or even reverse. But the future of the party is already taking shape, and that future will be, in some form or fashion, a conservative reaction against the Republican leadership that has sold them out. The smarter Republicans have already shaken off the trauma of electoral defeat and begun positioning themselves to capitalize. One important indication comes from
I was an original (way back to lst issue) subscriber to N.Y. Mag and this article shows why I long ago dropped out, and why it is limping financially: Republicans "deluded" into thinking we would win.......when all possible common sense showed that our now and future President is leading us down the primrose path to Greece-dom, has no economic sense at all, is adding enough regulations to strangle a horse on a weekly basis and is indeed attempting to be transformational---to change the very nature of our country as defined by our Constitution. Why would we NOT, just via common sense, think he would be ousted? And now N.Y. Mag and the rest of the MSM have suddenly, and without question, adopted the stance that Bush´s tax cuts are not for the "rich" but will cost the average middle class household about $2,000 plus per year if they expire. No questions as to this switch as to interpretation......and the "average" voter never questions the logic? They read N.Y. Mag and solemnly nod---or rather DON´T read and nod---they don´t seem to read much of anything, or THINK.
#1 I cancelled my subscription to NY Mag after reading Joe Klein´s "The Bimbo Primary" (2/10/1992) in which he said that presidents should be good liars, that "anyone who can´t shouldn´t be president."

Every time I read what liberals write about Republicans or conservatives I am stunned by their stupidity and ignorance. They seem to be operating in an alternate universe. I guess because they have no principles beyond power and greed they can´t imagine anybody else might stand for anything.
Obama has new spending all lined up and ready to go as soon as Boehner is finished playing his game and caves - which is exactly what he is going to do. The Liberals, of course, refuse to acknowledge this and decide to pick on Rubio instead. And as usual the conservatives will help them. Someone mentioned ´dream act lite´. How about 4 more years of Obama followed by Hillary?
We were not deluded into thinking we could win, except in thinking fraud could be minimized. Without fraud, we would have won by a landslide.
More people voted than reported. More people voted, I think, than in 2008, and in similar percentages to 2010.
When the ´Ruling Party´ has control of the electronic vote counts, as Obama´s people did, you can make the results total whatever you want.
When the Media is in the can for the ´Ruling Party´, as our Media are, they are given the percentages to ´accurately´ report the predetermined results. After all, it´s not like they are going to push for investigations of irregularities, like 100 percent voting for Obama in dozens if not hundreds of precincts, or voter participation in critical swing states of well over 100 percent, of GOP poll watchers being disenfranchised for most of Voting Day...
The Fox News numbers matched Voting reality. The Alphabet Soup numbers matched the Manufactured Reality of the Administration.
There is a coming Conservative Revolt - but if it doesn´t account for and counter the problems above, they will be powerless and useless.
When a Government founded on the principles of Rule by the People ceases to follow the People´s Will, what is the Constitutionally required solution?
As party leader, great. As spokesman for a small "r" Republican party, great again. Candidate for Presidencey? Natural Born didn´t hurt duh Won but they will hammer it to death here telling us he isn´t eligible.
Rubio used to be solidly opposed to amnesty for illegals, but he has been slipping. Amnesty is bad on all counts: the economy, the rule of law, sovereignty, jobs -- and amnesty will encourage more illegal entry and a slide toward bilingualism. Romney courageously backed attrition through enforcement: they came here gradually. End the handouts and they will leave gradually, no deportations necessary.
The data show that Hispanics did not vote for Obama because of amnesty. They voted for him because of a dependency mentality. The country needs some serious education about the values of freedom and personality responsibility that made this the most prosperous, where even the poorest have big screen TVs. Conservatives need to take charge of the schools, the media, entertainment -- all the leftist propaganda factories.
The republicans will wait to find out who the dems decide to run, then match them. Obama-questionable birth, very liberal; mccain-questionable birth, slightly liberal;obama-obamacare;very liberal;romney-romneycare,slightly liberal. Next time around it will have to be either a woman or hispanic and that is ALL the candidate needs to be. No other qualification needed. I really hope the Tea Party comes back, it seems to be the only alternative. Dems and pubbies are just the same.
NY Magazine is doing 2 things, first trying to sell copies and 2nd trying to dream up something else to talk about for the next 4 yrs. beside Jeb. They ran a worshipful article about Jeb on Oct. 14, 2012. It was almost like why are we even writing this because we all know Jeb is a rock star and he´s the one. Jeb couldn´t even deliver the state of Fla. to his brother in 2000 and that was before anyone had any complaints about said brother. The GOP estab./Bush crowd have made very clear they pick the candidates and not because they want to win. Their only reason for living is to prevent us from picking a candidate. Also, Jeb has some ties with Rubio.
Those of you who seem dismissive of Rubio as a conservative candidate may want to do further research. He is a fine man, a fine conservative, and was among the first wave of Tea Party- endorsed candidates in 2010. He´s not being "forced" on anyone- he is among a solid group of younger and more conservative politicians who are worthy of our consideration...
What #16 is saying is, we better get a look at Rubios citizenship AND his parents before the records are sealed. I heard that his parents were not American citizens at his birth, ergo he is NOT a Natural Born Citizen which makes him unqualified to be president according to the Constitution. Nip it in the bud NOW !!!!!!!!
The liberal media didn´t choose Rubio for me. I chose him all by myself quite some time ago. About the same time the Tea Party chose him I suppose. As for his version of the "Dream Act" Republicans really do need to decide if they want to exclude huge segments of the population and never win another election or not.
Obviously, this is an early swing of the wrecking ball in the Great Liberal Media Takedown of Marco Rubio. Chait, a radical left Democrat, manages a multi-page sneer at both wings of the Republican Party.
Make note of the major points of this article, folks -- soon every Newschick on ABCNBCBSCNNMSNBC from Andrea Mitchell to Diane Sawyer to Rachel Maddow will be babbling them nonstop as they brainwash the invincibly ignorant American Public.
Reptile election coming in 2016. snakes are spineless. If they fail to vote no on tax increases the fate of the USA is sealed as are the Republican ´leadership´ . Won´t matter who the candidate is. Regan had a steel backbone . I remember the air traffic control strike and Regan fired them all. I will just have to live on memories and prayer.
This not a case of the media choosing our candidate. Rubio is obviously positining himself to become our candidate in 2016. This draws the attention of both Democrats and Republicans. It is true that his parents were not American citizens when he was born in Miami. It is also true that his parents were Cuban immigrants as opposed to Cuban refugees, which he has in the past asserted.
Considering Obama, I have finally given up on natural born. I am somewhat worried, however, about his first story that his parents were refugees. Democrats are expected to lie, but Republicans do not have the same privilege. But who knows if it will hurt him? This is all premature.
Addressing the two major problems for the Republican party...voter fraud and the illegals...I am coming to the conclusion that the Republicans must, essentially, overcome these issues...even if it means compromising principles.
Voter Fraud...I think the Republicans must get so good a voter fraud themselves that they actually overcome the Democrat advantage in this area. Only then will the Democrats work with the Republicans to eliminate it.
Illegals...In general, I do not line up with Charles Krauthammer in that he is well to the left of my personal positions. However, Krauthammer makes a sort of brute sense now and then. He said that if we can secure the border very tightly, we can then grant the illegals who are already here a way to become citizens (unfairly, yes, to those "in line" for citizenship, but so what). With no more illegals coming in, the Republican party can then put up a Conservative and win. I hope. And then lower taxes and repeal Obamacare.
If the RNC thinks they will be successful running Jeb, they are sadly deluded. I always vote, but if it were Jeb I would sit it out. As for Rubio, I like him but would have to know and see a lot more from him before deciding.
#9 is right...Republicans weren´t deluded into expecting victory...our eyes and ears told us victory was coming, and it was...Romney did win but the fraud was sophisticated and demonic--it´s causing precisely the doubt and crackup among otherwise decent people that Soros and his ilk want.
Keep the faith...trust the truth...and the truth will out.
Here´s how the election was stolen: "Master Plan to Steal an Election" at www.brushfires-of-freedom/steal-an-eleciton.html
Dare anyone to provide the definitive proof that it did not happen exactly as described.
I´m hoping DeMint proposes that 50% of the US Secede, in the name of Peace & Harmony.... Center & South (incl Texas & Alaska) becomes The Heritage Foundations of America, upholding the constitution... the other half could be Obozo´s USAC... United Socialist Amerika Camp... and let´s see how each does!
I am surprised that people feel they have enough concrete information to not just eliminate but to denigrate a potential candidate at this early hour. The circular firing squad we witnessed in the Republican primaries is starting once again.
Chait is a leftist who delights in pulling the chain of the far right. Exhibit A is his attempt to stoke the fire on the far right that " the Republican leadership has sold them out ". The Republican leadership replaced couple of whining cry babies with other Republicans and the over the top hysteria from the far right was embarrassing. And music to the left. They sounded just like the unions in Wisconsin and Michigan with their demands and threats of retribution. If you listen to Huelskamp and Kibbe and the rest you would think that Huelskamp could no longer vote and had been physically silenced. And that Boehner was Stalin. Promoting division in the Republican party helps the Democrats and the far right is only too happy to comply.
Everyone should read the Ulsterman Report on the internet. The interview between WHI, RI and Ulsterman. A real eyeopener. The democrat and republican establishment are in bed together with the investors to further their one world order.
Rubio has to know that by going along with any liberal Democrat "path to citizenship" amnesty for just about the entire illegal alien population that in reality numbers probably in excess of 20 million mostly poor and generally uneducated third world people, that the Republicans would be committing what amounts to long-term political suicide by handing the liberal Democrats many millions of eventual new foreign born voters within a few years who would always vote for a "Candy man".
Then through liberal family reunification provisions bound to be included by the liberal Democrats in their amnesty plan, those legalized aliens would be able within about a decade double their population numbers by gaining the right to bring their foreign family members including unlimited numbers of their foreign parents into the USA.
Such a liberal amnesty would also encourage millions of new intending illegal aliens to come here, stay, and put their foreign born children in the US public schools. A fence on the borderline will not stop mass uncontrolled illegal immigration, as probably about half of the illegal alien population has come here either with a temporary visa of some sort, or a border crossing card and then justed stayed here. That method of entry will only get worse as aliens continue to come in to "visit" their friends and countrymen who will have benefited from such an amnesty.
Best line about Rubio months ago described his... "Prom King Looks"
Rubio gets tiresome when endlessly spoon-fed to the public... just like... State Farm´s "Hispanic Guy"...
Remember about a year or two or three ago when State Farm Insurance endlessly hyped... smiling Hispanic Guy spokesman... in TV and print ads... got so sick of his ubiquitous presence... I finally complained in writing. He had very similar looks to Rubio´s. Endless dimpled smile of a prom king.
Media Ho´s love to get on a bandwagon and then ride or drive the horse/s to death.
Overexposure can equal death in media hyperworld. Kardashian Syndrome, ya might say.
Rush helped destroy Bobby Jindal with overblown endless hype. Jindal stupidly made that "Response to the State of the Union" and flopped. Popped his balloon. (Who knows whether some of his enemies and/or rivals set him up? Sandbagged him. Hepped him ta flop... ?)
Already tired of the next "Hispanic Guy" with the prom king looks. He´s milking it. And so it goes...
I am convinced we have not one iota of difference between the politicos from the Democratic and capitulating Republican standard brand philosophically. Both want tax revenue to increase, retain a baseline Federal Budget, and provide no federal spending cuts of any substance on a fast track timeline.
The divergence comes from who gets to decide how the money is spent and on what. The undecipherable Tax Code is supported by both brands and is used to punish opponents and ripping the flesh from tax paying citizen, for submission sake.
The path forward is to form the “Constitutional Party”. Let us prosecute these simple truths set forth in our founding documents and let the standard party brands defend an opposing position.
Republicans need to avoid nominating another nice head of hair. Our country is headed towards financial disaster, and we need a nominee who can get the "mushy middle" to see it that way, and provide a positive alternative.
I don´t think Rubio is the right candidate either--at least not yet. But I am curious. Where in the Constitution does it say that both parents have to be US citizens at birth for someone to be President?
#19, it´s a lost cause. Some are so determined that no GOP candidate will measure up here or there or somewhere that we may never be able to unify in support of anyone. I thought Romney might pull it off, but several posters could hardly let the polls close before they were crowing on these threads that they knew all along Romney was the wrong man. I´m not sure who meets the various purity tests.
I like Rubio, and I think the "ineligible" bit is a questionable accusation. But, we have others who are young and eager and accomplished. Will we allow any of them a chance? We´ll see.
The candidate could be the Lord Jesus with the apostle Paul as his running mate, the Senate and House races could be made up of those 500 that saw the Lord after His resurrection and the Supremes could be nine of the eleven (minus Judas) apostles. It wouldn´t matter. Want to know why? Have you read Slouching Toward Gomorrah? We´ve slouched at record speed and kids we are THERE. Like the lyrics from Last Plane Out say, "No time for a conscience and we recognize no crime. Yeah, we got dogs and Valvoline, it´s a pretty damn good time."

Regarding the issue of "eligibility" to be president, IF Rubio´s parents were NOT American citizens at the time of Rubio´s birth, he is NOT a natural born citizen and NOT qualified to be president.
Ditto for Obama. If both of Obama´s parents were not American citizens at the time of his birth, and HE claims his father was British/Kenyan, then Obama is NOT a natural born citizen and not qualified to be president. Furthermore, if Obama became a citizen of Indonesia as Barry Soetoro, then he also is not qualified to be president, and is, at best, a naturalized citizen. As a college student, Obama traveled to Pakistan at a time that American citizens could not travel there, evidence that he was not an American citizen.
to #38: That makes Rubio a "Native Born Citizen" via the 14th amendment but is not a "Natural Born Citizen" which he would have to be to qualify for the presidency. "Natural Born" means that you are born of 2 citizen parents, which Rubio was not. Natural Born ONLY applies to the president, not to anyone else. Native Born can apply to anyone, including the president. The framers of the constitution specifically made the Natural Born requirement apply ONLY to the president because they did not want the commander in chief of the army/navy to have divided loyalties in time of war. (Remember, in the 1700s it was not uncommon for a king to have a foreign born parent) What is truly sad about this is the fact that Obama does not qualify on this basis either and Congress and the Supreme Court both are well aware of it. To wit: Congress passed a resolution prior to the 2008 election certifying McCain´s citizenship/eligiblity to run for the presidency on the basis that he had two citizen parents and did no such thing for their other fellow senator, Barack Obama. Where you are born is irrelevent--you can be born on the moon, just as long as you have two citizen parents you qualify as Natureal Born.
Earlier this week, Onyango "Omar" Obama, uncle to Barack, said in a deportation hearing that he stayed with his nephew in Cambridge in the 1980s. The White House had to that point said that the president had never actually met Omar, who was arrested for drunk driving in 2011. Now, two years after the arrest brought denials of any sort of relationship from the White House, the president is admitting that, yes, he briefly lived with his uncle Omar before heading to Harvard Law School in the ´80s. "The president first met Omar Obama when he moved to Cambridge for law
Technicians in the Washington area raced up to a month-end deadline set by the Obama administration to make the troubled federal insurance website work for a majority of users, but officials acknowledged they still faced a raft of problems that could take weeks or more to fix. By Saturday evening, technicians completed a major hardware upgrade, adding computing, storage and database capacity to their data center, said one person familiar with the situation. "There was a big install and it worked," the person said. Contractors believe the upgrades will improve the system´s performance and let it handle more visitors, but the person
The once-sleepy town of Williston sits on the confluence of the Yellowstone and Missouri rivers in the US state of North Dakota. Five years ago, Williston had a population of 12,000 and was slowly dying on its feet – an agricultural hub marked out from the plains only by the grain silos that stand silhouetted against the big North Dakota skies. The fall-out from a brief oil boom in the mid-1980s had left the town with sky-high debts and a main street filled with empty shops and peeling facades. Young people looking for jobs skipped town at the first opportunity. Today, Williston is
The CIA used a secret base at Guantanamo Bay nicknamed ´Penny Lane´ to turn some of al-Qaeda´s most dangerous terrorists into double agents, US officials have admitted.Inmates languishing under Guantanamo Bay´s harsh regime were offered cash rewards, "hotel" style rooms and even pornography if they agreed to help the CIA track down and kill fellow al-Qaeda operatives. Instead of Guantanamo´s spartan cells, they would be transferred to cottages equipped with private kitchens, showers and televisions, as well as their own patio. A handful then signed agreements to work for the CIA, under which they were released and told to hook up once
DALLAS - A winter storm system blamed for at least 10 fatal accidents in the West and Texas threatens to dampen the Thanksgiving holiday for millions of Americans traveling this week.Nearly 300 American Airlines and American Eagle flights were canceled in and out of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport on Monday due to the weather, spokeswoman Laura Masvidal said, mirroring disruptions at the air hub a day earlier. Some of the country´s busiest airports - New York, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Boston and Charlotte, N.C. - could see big delays. Icy roads led to hundreds of accidents and at least 10 deaths, half
As he climbed the political heap, a young Barack Obama roused audiences with promises to unite the nation. He was a Senate candidate in 2004 when he told the Democratic national convention, “There is not a liberal America and a conservative America. There is a United States of America.” In 2007, he declared early in his presidential run that “I don’t want to pit red America against blue America. I want to be the president of the United States of America.” A year later, after he won the Iowa caucus, he promised, “We are not a collection of red states and blue
Remember President Barack Obama´s mother? Though the airwaves currently echo with his vow "If you like your plan . . ." I keep remembering Obama´s account of his mother being denied coverage by her insurance company as she lay dying of cancer. The moving and infuriating story was a staple on the 2008 campaign trail. His mother had insurance, he explained, but when she came down with cancer, her insurance company claimed her disease was a "pre-existing condition" and refused to pay for her treatment. In a debate with Sen. John McCain, Obama said: "For my mother to die of cancer
I have never been much of a conspiracy theorist. For me it was always Oswald by himself from the Texas School Book Depository and nothing in the intervening fifty years has disabused me of this notion. For the most part, I’m an Occam’s Razor kind of guy — the most obvious explanation is likely to be true. (Snip) To put it bluntly, Occam’s Razor has moved. Things that were once possibilities now seem almost certainties to me. Principal among those is that Obama’s academic records are perpetually unavailable for a reason — and that reason is most likely that they reveal
One of President Obama´s chief political assets has been his ability to excite young people like almost no politician in history. But the days of America´s youth fawning over the president are over. A new Harvard University Institute of Politics poll released Wednesday confirms what other surveys have shown in recent months: Millennials have soured on Obama so much this year that their opinion of him largely mirrors the American public´s. Even though Obama does not ever have to face another election, he should be worried about the findings for a couple of reasons, which we will dive into momentarily.
A stunning new study unveiled on Fox News´ Hannity finds that President Barack Obama’s White House calendar records just one face-to-face meeting between Obama and his Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in the more than three-and-a-half years leading up to the disastrous Obamacare launch. The startling statistic comes from a new Government Accountability Institute (GAI) analysis of Obama’s own official White House calendar, as well as the Politico presidential calendar, and raises new questions about Obama’s executive leadership and management throughout the implementation of his singular legislative achievement. More alarming still, the president’s schedule lists 277 private
[Video] President Obama on Wednesday declared that addressing income inequality would be the focus of “all” of the White House’s efforts “for the rest of my presidency.” In a sweeping address that touched on raising the minimum wage, investing in infrastructure and ending tax breaks for the wealthy, Obama warned that the American economy has become “profoundly unequal,” declaring economic mobility the “challenge of our time.” “The combined trends of increasing inequality and decreasing mobility pose a fundamental threat to the American dream, our way of life, and what we stand for around the globe,” he said in an hour-long
Just over two weeks ago, MSNBC host Martin Bashir delivered a harsh piece of commentary that culminated in the suggestion that someone should “s-h-i-t” in former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin‘s (R-AK) mouth. Bashir offered an abject apology on his next broadcast, but a chorus of critics continued to demand action against the host. After a reported “vacation” for the host earlier this week, Bashir announced, Wednesday afternoon, that MSNBC and Martin Bashir are parting ways. Here’s the statement from Martin Bashir, via email: After making an on-air apology, I asked for permission to take some additional time out around the Thanksgiving holiday. Upon
Amid an array of “knock-out” attacks against a number of Jews in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood, a city councilwoman pointed to the success of the Jewish community as triggering the aggression. Councilwoman-elect Laurie Cumbo emphasized that while she “admire[s] the Jewish community immensely” for its work ethic, black teens may see it differently. “While I personally regard this level of tenacity, I also recognize that for others, the accomplishments of the Jewish community triggers feelings of resentment, and a sense that Jewish success is not also their success,” Cumbo, who was recently elected, wrote in a letter. Chief among the issues
America is facing a wave of strikes by its fast-food workers on Thursday a day after Barack Obama warned that inequality in the USA had soared to the point that it now posed "a fundamental threat to the American dream". Low-paid workers in McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken and other fast-food outlets in 100 cities across America were due to start rolling strikes to protest at the low level of America´s $7.25 (£4.45) federal minimum wage. The strikes are the latest part of a mushrooming publicity campaign for higher wages among those working so-called "McJobs", with fast-food restaurants seen as a
