Taxes: How much can the U.S. government take from our most successful citizens? Theoretically, there might not be a limit. But the consequences for the less successful are huge, as one principled CEO points out. Appearing on CNBC on Monday, Ex-New York Democratic state politician Richard Brodsky trotted out his party´s class-warfare-based fiscal cliff talking points. "We´ve got to dig our way out" from under Bush policies, he contended. And "the president is saying that the wealthiest are most able to contribute" — after which Brodsky instantly admitted that raising taxes on the incomes "is not

I´m sick to death of our problems being blamed on "Bush policies". Lets be honest - the blame goes to the 2007 congress and to zippy, who took their mess and made it 100 times worse.

If Obama wants to take us over the cliff for $85 billion - so be it. But let the pubbies tall the truth about it. It is Obama´s decision - not theirs.

Doesn´t anyone ever stop to think where the rich get their money? Hint....they dont print it.

The rich get rich by producing a product or service that the population wants or needs. Or...they invest in others who provide the products or services. So when the rich see their taxes go up, expect the price for EVERYTHING that you purchase to go up.

The dims and their constant repeating it was GW´s fault would be funny if it were not so pathetic. If voters would check their tax bill this last year, I don´t think they would agree. The economy stinks and Christmas shopping is way down with just 2 weeks or so until that day.

The clearest example of this folly is England, which raised taxes on the "millionaires and billionaires" just a year ago...and saw most of them flee to kinder climes.

Look at the countries of the EU, with their socialism, and their "millionaires and billionaires" moving out as rapidly as humanly possible.

Of all the "classes" of taxpayers, the smartest and most able to a) hide their wealth and b) choose where and how they will "grow" their wealth are the "millionaires and billionaires" who can afford to hire the best tax accountants and tax lawyers.

It is the middle class and the working "poor" who earn just enough to not qualify for all the entitlements who will be actually paying the increased taxes.

The "poor," who have already learned how to game the system won´t be paying taxes...and will riot if anyone tries to take away their EITC, which they carefully calculate exactly how much they can work to maximize the payoff, will not pay one penny more in taxes.

The rich will become ex-pats if necessary, and juggle where their money "resides" so they won´t actually pay anymore taxes.

No, it will be all us saps in the middle that have to pay the bill for 0bama´s generosity to the almighty "poor."

My favorite line in the article: A rightfully outraged Schiff declared that he doesn´t "care what the majority voted to do. They don´t have a right to steal my money just because they vote for it."

Mr. Schiff is right. The image of the have-nots voting to steal the money that the haves worked to make is tragic. Our forefathers must be turning in their graves.

Lessee... the top one per cent makes about 13% of total income. They pay about 22% of income taxes.

Can somebody explain "fairness" to me again, please?

If we run the "rich" out of the country, the only ones left will be poor.

There´s an old saying that luxury feeds more mouths than charity.

We could modernize it to say that keeping wealth and spending it yourself is better for society than giving it to the government to waste on boondoggles and bureaucracy.

Teeny Tiny overlooked detail =

Obama´s tax increase cut off at $250k is based on Net Worth... not annual income.

If you own a home, you are toast... If you have purchased gold or other assets in the last 4 years... you are toast.

Reply 12 - Posted by: Spidey, 12/11/2012 4:37:26 AM     (No. 9058895)

This whole country´s economy, fiscal sanity and growth potential hangs in the balance so Obama can spike the football over a lousy 3% tax on a handful of people.

Obama´s all for capitalism when it comes to his cronies but not so much so for honest business people.

How come you don´t hear about a rebellion among high earning dems who could be slapped with the higher taxes? One of the ways the left has been operating for years is they offset tax increases on their supporters by more spending, raises and performance bonuses. That way only suburban republicans actually pay more taxes.

You see rich liberals everywhere moving to duck higher taxes so the myth that they want to pay more is a huge lie.I´ll bet a lot of Obama´s fundraising came from people wanting protection from higher taxes. Obama will find a way to carve these people out with middle of the night exe orders or signing statements.

Why would an illegal alien want citizenship when they can get free kidney transplants as an illegal? If they become citizens and have to pay income taxes, they could get slapped with an Obamacare fine, even though IRS agents will probably name profile to avoid hitting liberal sub groups. It doesn´t take a rocket scientist to figure out a minority´s name.

The point is,all new taxes will be formulated to hit majority republicans if for no other reason than to have less money to donate to candidates.

It seems to me that the time for cogent arguments is long past....this whole mob rule thing is so sickening that I suggest that we vilified earners stay home for a few days...I feel a bad case of acute taxtoxicity coming on. Shut ´em down for, see how jug-ears likes that.

Film and television stars hit Republicans on Wednesday for their opposition to abortion rights and free access to birth control. Stanley Tucci, Morena Baccarin, Mehcad Brooks and others appeared in a Web video where they slammed conservative positions on women´s health as retrograde. The international Center for Reproductive Rights (CRR) is behind the multi-stage campaign to push President Obama to make women´s health issues a centerpiece of his second term. The group is also raising support for its Bill of Reproductive Rights.

As the old saying goes, beware of Greeks bearing gifts; but as the new saying goes, beware even more of Republicans bearing bribes. In either case, one could get destroyed (or at least corrupted) from the inside by trusting the wrong people. Since 2006, with the beginnings of the breakaway of populist conservatives from the national Republican Party via the Tea Party movement, the GOP has been trying to figure out how to co-opt and capture it once again, just as George W. Bush did with many elements of the conservative movement in the early years of the 21st century.

Major news outlets in recent days have reported that U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius is raising money from the private sector—including from health-care executives—for use by a private entity that is helping to implement ObamaCare. The entity, Enroll America, is run by a former White House aide. The Washington Post quoted an HHS spokesman last week saying, "We requested additional money [from Congress] . . . but we didn´t receive any additional funding for the exchanges. So we had to come up with Plan B." My immediate thought was: Isn´t "Plan B" what got

Every day brings new revelations about who knew what about the IRS targeting conservative groups during President Obama´s re-election campaign, but the overall impression is of a vast federal bureaucracy run amok. While the White House continues to peddle the story of a driverless train wreck, taxpayers are being treated to a demonstration of the dangers of an unwieldy and unaccountable administrative state. Look, Ma, no hands! In his press events, Mr. Obama has said that while he learned about the Cincinnati rogues on the news, he plans to "hold accountable those who have taken these outrageous actions."

Scandal Watch: New evidence makes it clear that the Internal Revenue Service campaign against conservatives wasn´t the result of two "rogue" agents, but was directed from higher up. The question is, how high up? The claim that a couple of workers in the bowels of an IRS office in Cincinnati managed to block tax-exempt applications from conservative groups for more than two years, while subjecting them to outrageous, intrusive and improper requests for information, started falling apart days ago. Last weekend, the Washington Post quoted a staffer saying that "everything comes from the top" at the IRS.

Scandal: The rest of us must answer IRS questions under threat of perjury, but the agency´s execs can take the Fifth. A Tea Party targeted by the IRS — and the FBI and OSHA and the ATF — thinks that´s unfair. We do too. Lois Lerner, chief of the IRS´ exempt organizations division when the Tea Party and other conservative groups were targeted for their opposition to President Obama, has invoked her Fifth Amendment right not to be questioned on her earlier testimony, her opening statement or any knowledge she may have of who ordered

Because Of Ideology, Benghazi
Terrorists Remain Free

National Security: The U.S. knows who and where five of the Benghazi terrorists are who murdered Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans. The Obama administration´s ideology keeps them free. Remember when, in the summer of 2008, soon-to-be Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama charged that President Bush´s strategy was to "engineer the distraction of the war in Iraq at a time when we could have pinned down the people who actually committed 9/11"? He was making several serious charges: • Bush, since he was the president, could have lit a fire under investigators to catch the 9/11 terrorist enablers.

Former Rep. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor 3rd. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight committee Wednesday.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”

Former Democratic National committee chairman Howard Dean considers the controversy over Benghazi a “joke” and “silly.” “Benghazi is a laughable joke,” Dean proclaimed twice in a discussion with Republican National Committee communications chairman Sean Spicer last week. “With all due respect, governor, when four Americans die serving this country, that’s not a joke, sir,” Spicer responded. “Oh, stop it,” said Dean. The former Democratic presidential candidate also said that there were “no serious questions being asked about Benghazi” and brushed it off as an effort by Republicans to score political points.
