Participation in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or food stamps, reached another high in September, according to new data released by the United Stated Department of Agriculture. The most recent data on SNAP participation were released Friday, and showed that 47,710,324 people were enrolled in the program in September, an increase of 607,559 from the 47,102,765 enrolled in August. The number of households enrolled in the program also increased from 22,684,463 in August to 22,973,698 in September, an increase of 289,235. The average benefit, according to

Comments:
For anyone who says Obama is not the Food Stamp President (as Gingrich aptly noted)... just look at the ever-rising, dramatic numbers released by his own administration.

This is what success and the new normal looks like for this administration. ;for the New America. The more people on the take, the better; because they are beholden to their Marxist Messiah.

Went to Walmart this morning to pick up paper products in bulk and was the only person in my lane not using food stamps... what the heck? The couple in front of me were loading their items into a brand new car with paper tags still on. Really screwed up priorities.

Yeah but I believe most of these new people are imports. they basically shut downt he border patrol and homeland security is recruiting mexicans to come here.has a lot to do with how obama stole the election.

These people need interpreters to take a citizenship test which is absurd in itself.

I wonder what the participation rate would be if they announced that everyone was eligible.

Welcome to the continuing downgrading of America, fondly called "Fundamental Transformation."

#2 has the same experience as I do; almost no one buys their own food at Walmart. Spiffy new free cellphones and nice cars, though.

MSM style is to describe the takers as "participants." It´s good to participate, isn´t it? Another tag is "people who rely on food stamps"; sure would be heartless to cut them off (and have them buy their own food, instead of spending what would otherwise be their food money on booze, bling, street drugs, and the like).

#2 I´ll bet that new car was a GM car? I have seen many shiny new cars around the Section 8 housing areas... all GMs. Is there a new Cars for Moochers program we didn´t hear about?

"The truth of the matter is that, as I said, we created 4.3 million jobs over the last 27 months, over 800,000 just this year alone. The private sector is doing fine. Where we´re seeing weaknesses... have to do with.... Governors or mayors who are not getting the kind of help that they have in the past from the federal government.... [The policies Republicans are] promoting are basically the kinds of policies that would add weakness to the -- to the economy, would result in further layoffs, would not provide relief in the housing market, and would result, I think most economists estimate, in lower growth and fewer jobs, not more."

Panem et circenses. The corn dole + depraved, decadent popular culture. Humanity has been here before. Same manure; different flies. When the disorder is unchecked Nature eventually supplies the remedy of adversity. It would be nice not to have to travel the whole nine yards this ricorso, for when adversity is the mode of rectification, history shows that it is usually prolonged and severe.

This is why I will not give "to those in need". They are living better and higher than those of us who are making it without government assistance.

Since the secretary of something which controls farms says farms are now irrelevant, what good are these food stamps going to be?

Reply 16 - Posted by: LanieLou, 12/10/2012 4:27:14 AM     (No. 9057227)

Teams are spread accross the nation, signing peeps up for food stamps... college kids all get them, regardless of parents wealth; It´s just another avenue to expedite the financial collapse.

ObamaPhones are advertised on tv here in FL! It´s like when the MSM mentions abuse of one of these programs, Obozo sends his miscreants out to make it worse... just to rub it in.

FYI,,,, the 2,000 peeps that showed up to apply for a free apt. in Ohio Sat. were all women in muslim garb... and late model GM cars lined the roadway.

Immediately following President Barack Obama’s remarks on Wednesday about the current scandal embroiling the Internal Revenue Service, Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer reacted by downplaying the gesture. “That was a holding operation,” Krauthammer said. “That was the absolute minimum he could have done. He relieves one person. He obviously had to. He had to relieve at least one person. And he chose, of course , the acting commissioner. But, I would have expected more. The other actions he announced are up to now meaningless. Obama and this administration have said a hundred times they’re going to

George Will joined the chorus talking about the prospect of impeachment for President Barack Obama after last week’s admission from the Internal Revenue Service that it had targeted groups with the phrases “tea party” or “patriot” in their tax-exempt applications for extra audits . On Sunday’s broadcast of ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos,” Will proposed a scenario wherein the Bush administration had targeted groups with the word “progressive” in their names and concluded the situation would be much different in terms of expressions of outrage. “Mr. Hicks, when he was in Libya, said his jaw dropped

Senior Fox News political analyst Brit Hume laid out why this week’s testimony on last September’s terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya could be problematic for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Hume, speaking on Tuesday’s broadcast of “America Live,” said there is no feasible way for her to escape any responsibility since she had to be involved in the crafting of the talking points that came out after the attack that resulted in the deaths of four Americans, including then-U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens. "There’s really no way for her to escape responsibility for this if this

Back in the 1980s, the country faced a familiar dilemma to the one it faces today — the border was insecure and too many illegal immigrants had moved into the United States. At the time, the proposed solution was a bill crafted by then Wyoming Republican Sen. Alan Simpson and Kentucky Democratic Rep. Romano Mazzoli. Signed into law by President Ronald Reagan in 1986, it instantly granted 3 million illegal immigrants legal status. Yet a little over 30 years later the problem has returned, with more than 11 million illegal immigrants now in the United States.

“The O’Reilly Factor” host Bill O’Reilly on Thursday criticized those seeking to downplay the role of Islamic extremism in the Boston Marathon bombings. “There is no question that many on the left are very disappointed the two suspects in the terror bombing are Muslim,” O’Reilly said. “And it is sad to say that many in the Muslim world will never believe the Tsarnaev brothers committed the atrocity.” O’Reilly referred specifically to comments by Zubeidat Tsarnev, the mother of suspected Boston Marathon bombers Dzohkhar and Tamerlan Tsarnev. “Now, there is nothing on Earth that can make that woman accept reality

Conservative columnist Pat Buchanan says the “Gang of Eight” immigration reform bill will, if passed, threaten national security and destroy the Republican Party’s ability to compete on a national level. Buchanan, author of “Suicide of a Superpower: Will America Survive to 2025?” told radio host Laura Ingraham on Monday that passing a “blanket pardon” of illegal immigrants would be “an act of madness,” particularly in the wake of last week’s terrorist attacks in Boston. “It’s been one week since something like 178 to 180 Americans — three of them murdered — but 178 injured, maimed and wounded by two

On Monday’s broadcast of MSNBC “Morning Joe,” host Joe Scarborough voiced his agreement with Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain, who on Sunday’s “Face the Nation” on CBS questioned those Republicans who are threatening a filibuster on pending gun control legislation. Scarborough said such a filibuster would be an example of the GOP putting “rapists’ rights ahead over parents’ rights.” “[I] tell you what, Richard Haass, I saw John McCain there,” Scarborough said. “And I’m hopeful. Because, you know, there are a lot of guys out there in the Senate and they are going out because it’s a free shot.

Former Rep. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.
